Pantai Cheras, 5k++ for wife and 6k++ for the baby. Total 12.7k.
Baby was in ICU for 3 days for monitoring and 1 day in nursery, 4 days for the mother, vacuum delivery, epidural.

Overall good service.

I've seen a lot of my friends choosing to go to government hospitals for delivery. They say it's much cheaper compared to the famous private hospitals, and they would rather save the money for milk powder or diapers.

With that being said, is there a big difference in the quality of service provided? I'm trying to understand why someone would want to deliver their baby in private hospitals when government hospitals also offer the exact same service.

Please do enlighten me on this.

Because it's darn cheap at govt hospitals. I'd say, if you want to choose and stick to a particular gynae and paed, then obviously go to private as in govt hospitals, they will assign whoever is on duty. Of course comfort wise private is better and no long waiting for consultation needed, unless if you want to go famous doctors.

FPP Putrajaya July 2019
Hospital Putrajaya under Dr. Hazim
1st class ward/room (double bed) - 3D2N C-sec

comment: luckily we are FPP patient, during the registration i do see a lot of the pregnant lady after checkup if its not too urgent they will refer her to another hospital to deliver the baby. Nurses are very patient to explain and guide me & my wife. we manage meet Dr. Hazim 2 times during monthly checkup, he is extremely experienced but due to he is the head of O&G department. he always very busy, a lot of the mother choose him as specialist actually have never meet him before. The other specialists are very experienced & nice as well. Dr. Sapie helped my wife do the emergency c-sec due to baby poop in the tummy while the vagina only opened 3cm. Dr did explain the situation clearly let us choose between can wait another 4 hours to observe since the baby heartbeat is still strong or do emergency c-sec.

overall we have a very good experience. really thanks to all the nurses and doctor who involved.

total RM3360

FPP at Hospital Putrajaya

6D5N 3 days CTG monitoring + emergency csection
Total bill RM4.1K

Actually most of my bill amount comes from my Executive room rate RM300 each day. If no, would be cheaper.

Yes, FPP is definitely cheaper than big private hospital like Sunway, SJMC etc.
FPP's pro is you get to choose which doctor you want and you will be delivered by a doctor, not a midwife nurse.
However, cannot expect that you will get the exact same treatment like private. The nurses and doctors are still the stern and overworked staffs, who are not very into 'best customer service'.

A lot of people go for Dr Hamidah but only because she's a lady doctor, so assumed more comfortable. But she gets fully booked very fast. Need to book a few months earlier.

But one thing I notice, maybe because govt doctors has very busy schedule, they are pro-csection. Almost all the mommas I got to know there all kena c-sectioned. Even at my first appt at Putrajaya, Dr Hamidah already strongly suggested I take c-section. My private gynae pulak suggested natural as long as nothing crops up.

Dr Hamidah also feels a bit distant. When ask things, she will be like, "Oh, is it?" then selamba.... so honestly, she rarely give advice. She forgot how many weeks I am already at, what's the previous diagnosis etc etc.

And for unknown reason, they won't let me choose first class single or double, and I must take executive room which was very expensive RM300 per night! They even ask me to stay longer but I insisted to leave since I've already passed all physical checkup after csection. So you might need to budget you will be assigned executive room too.

All in all, if you don't mind the above - less personal touch, less customer service than private but better than non-FPP service, go for it.

A bit money saving tips - try not to drag on too long or you might ended up like me, stayed 6 days. Just room alone, already 1.8K. Then the next most expensive is ward visit. Dr Hamidah lovesssss visiting me at ward. And funnily, an anaesthetist also do ward visits. (I had surgery before and never encounter a anaesthetist ward visit) Somemore, not the anaesthetist that administer on me during csection doh.gif These also added up to my bill a lot!

My original plan for taking FPP is, I follow up at both Putrajaya and Columbia Asia. If my pregnancy is normal - baby not breech and I can natural birth, I would have go to Columbia which I was told below 6K. If baby was breech and need csection, I would go Putrajaya. Mana tau.... I have more complication that I expected, so I ended up at Putrajaya. mega_shok.gif

Doctor recommendation, I think Dr Azmi is also one of the hot choices. But the lady beside me (I got executive double room before I can change to single) kept complaining Dr Azmi MIA on her biggrin.gif and refused to release her.

FPP Putrajaya - Dr Hamidah
Induced normal delivery + Episiotomy + Epidural - 4D3N Executive room
Total: RM 3200

- We did check ups at private clinic (Britannia) until final week, we preferred that way because the waiting time at Putrajaya can be long, and a lot of patients. Saw Dr Hamidah first time on 5th month, and 2nd time a month later. 2nd consultation she gave us a date to admit hospital (one week after expected due date for us). Before being admitted, for non emergency cases (like us waiting to be induced), have to check with the hospital for empty beds. No need to go hospital directly, on that day we waited for one whole day at home + called countless times to check for slots, which can be annoying.

- Executive rooms either 2 beds or single bed (first come first serve, daddy can stay overnight), we had to share room with another parents + their newborn for 2 nights while being induced. One of the baby cried/screamed non stop through out the night, which can be scary if you are first time mom who are trying to sleep and reserve energy for the big moment. If 2 bedded executive daddy will have to sleep on the floor. Only the 3rd night (baby out) we finally got to stay single room.

- Dr Hamidah has a lot of patients. She probably won't remember you, and does not elaborate much when answering questions. Only saw her twice for consultations before deliver, and follow up once after delivery. FPP Saturday consultation rate costs around RM 160.

- The reason we chose Putrajaya was because:
1. Not many good choices around Kajang (either Britannia or Columbia or KPJ)
2. In case baby admitted to ICU *touch wood* private hospital will cost a lot

Next time (if there is any) we probably will go for Columbia Cheras single room.
