Guys, i just received my Citibank Cash Back VISA Platinum credit card today via Poslaju. I actually applied for CIMB Bank World MasterCard and OCBC Titanium MasterCard before this. Many of you already know about the CIMB Bank story so i'll just skip that part. OCBC rejected my application. No reason was given and they did not ask me to provide my income documents either. The OCBC Bank customer service officer i spoke to just told me my application is unsuccessful but i can try to reapply again 6 months later (which i definitely will).

Anyway, i was really fed up already but last week, i decided to try my luck again. This time with Citibank. OCBC Titanium MasterCard has always been my top pick but what to do, i was rejected so i had to move on and look for the next best card. I applied this card through an agent since there is no Citibank branch here in Kota Kinabalu. The application was submitted last Tuesday and i received the card just about an hour ago. Definitely very efficient of Citibank rclxms.gif

So, there are a few questions that i want to ask you guys.
1. Do i have to request for the credit card PIN number or they will automatically send one to me ?
2. In order for me to get the free RM60 cash, i will need to register for auto-debit under one bill. Currently i already have my TM Streamyx bill signed up for auto-debit through my HSBC MasterCard. Can i just call HSBC to cancel the auto-debit ? How long does it take ?
3. It says that i will get 2% rebate at all Watson and Guardian outlets. Is this restricted to over the counter prescription only or all items bought there such as shampoo, hair mousse etc. are entitled for the 2% rebate as well ?

Thanks in advance.

1.  try to appeal (by calling the cus care) by sending all your supporting documents thru email cap@ocbc.com.  I did that and got mine approved in 1 day-worth trying instead of waiting for another 6 months;

I did actually. They did not ask me to give them my income documents though.

2. Did u rec the free smart tag?  I received a sms saying its free to the sucessful applications for the Citibank Cash Back VISA Platinum credit card, although such information is not posted on net yet.

Oh really ? I did not know that. Didn't receive any sms from Citibank either. I didn't even know my application has been approved until just now.

QUOTE(de.crystal @ Oct 26 2010, 04:11 PM)
congrats btw.
Thanks ! It is not my first choice but i guess i just have to use this for the time being. Will definitely try my luck with OCBC Bank again 6 months later (5 months to go actually).

3. Maybe you can find some clues in the T&C or FAQ.

Cheers.
Read the whole thing. It just says Watson and Guardian and that's it. Thanks by the way.

you mean you have appealed or u just applied ?
Applied before Raya. Whole process took more than one month. Appealed last month but still unsuccessful. Anyway, as the customer service officer said, please reapply 6 months later. That is what i am going to do. For the time being i'll just use this Citibank cash back VISA Platinum. After all it is better than my current HSBC MasterCard that gives no point for petrol. Besides, HSBC has recently increased the rewards points required to redeem a RM50/RM100 voucher vmad.gif

Anyway, i will still keep my HSBC MasterCard. Will use it for all other purchases that the Citibank Cash Back VISA Platinum only gives 0.3% cash back.

2. It depends on how did HSBC executed the auto-debit. Some banks use a 3rd party (e.g Some banks uses MBF AutoPay to execute TM group bills) and to cancel this, you actually need to advise the bank (or sometimes MBF to terminate the autopay facility). Sometimes also, it is done directly @ the merchant level (e.g. Maxis) and you need to terminate the autodebit directly with them. I knew this since sometime back after experiencing it and I find it is easier not to use the autodebit because of the complexity to cancel them. (But it is easy to sign up)

I'll advise to call HSBC and see whether you are able to cancel the facility and take things from there. Cancellation can take between 4-6 weeks and in extreme cases longer. You may find needing to pay for 1-2 more cycles before the autodebit is cancelled.

Thanks. I signed up for auto-debit through TM Point actually. The bill for October came out last week but i have not been billed yet. No sign of the RM2 rebate from TM either for signing up for auto-debit. I now wondered if TM has processed my auto-debit request ... kind of weird that the October bill has not been charged to my credit card yet.

3. Rebate @ Watson and Guardian ?  Yes ... because @ the payment terminal ... it will use the same MCC code. You'll get the rebate either way ... I have bought vitamins, toothbrush, etc and get the rebate. Unless of course they have change the T&C. No harm actually ... it's either rebate or no rebate. Either way ... you would have need to pay for the items in full so I think there's no loss. The rebate is just a bonus.
Fantastic ! We buy a lot of things from Watson and Guardian every month. Glad to know i'll get 2% rebate from now onwards thumbup.gif

1. PIN will be send via normal post later
2. I'd change to citibank cb plat via TM, call 100 & they just need your new card number etc.
3. chocolate,  shampoo & everything will earn you 2%
Take note that the cash back will be only credited accumulation of RM50 but on the bottom of statement will show previous/current earn/total cash back
Noted. Thanks.

Just a few weeks ago. A month ? Wow, definitely very 'efficient' of TM eh ? Anyway, will go to TM Point tomorrow to cancel the auto-debit instruction. After that will call Citibank to enroll in One Bill.

My friend in banking sector said banks have quota (allocated by BNM) in giving out loans/credit line. If the bank does not fully utilize the quota by end of the year, the quota will be revised downwards in subsequent years. And that is why most people got their CL increased automatically before year end.

Have you heard of this?
No. I have not. Then how come HSBC is so strict in increasing its credit card users credit limit ?

Actually, can we call HSBC a foreign bank? Does the word "(Malaysia)" make it a local bank?
Well, it is a foreign bank. It's British born in British Hong Kong biggrin.gif My mom told me this is the only bank in many small towns in British North Borneo (now Sabah) in the 50s-70s.

Anyway, Citibank is a foreign bank too but they are not quite as strict as HSBC.

Just came back from TM Point. Was told that when we sign up for auto-debit payment for any of your TM bills, it will only start debiting your account from the 3rd month while the cancellation will take 2-month to process.

Anyway, called Citibank and signed up for One Bill payment for my TM Streamyx. Was informed that it will take approximately 2-month before the first amount will be charged to my account.

May be you can try to call them tomorrow or Friday. You can find out the status of your application with just a call to their credit card centre.

AirAsia online booking payment via credit/debit card Convenience Fee has been increase from RM5 to RM6 (so bad). vmad.gif  I just find out when i make a booking 3 hours ago..
Next time pay using direct debit. You don't have to pay the convenience fee then.

Mine was charged on the second month after the anniversary month. So i guess it's the same for yours too.

By the way, HSBC launched a co-branded VISA Infinite and VISA Signature card in Taiwan just a while ago. Though a co-branded card, it probably is a sign they might introduce these cards types to other countries where it has a significant retail banking business too smile.gif

Hi,

IMO whether using direct debit or cc depends on the transaction amount and card feature. Since OCBC Ti cardmembers get to earn 1% on air ticket purchase, it is still worth to pay that convenience fee RM6 provided the trxn amount is at least RM600.

What say you? smile.gif
But at the end of the day, you'll still earn nothing (using RM600 as example) as the supposedly rebate earned will only be used to cover the RM6 charged by Air Asia. Besides, the OCBC Titanium MasterCard comes with a capped of RM50 cash rebate per month. Better charge something else to the card.

By the way, Air Asia is charging RM6 convenience fee per sector flight right ? So if you buy a return ticket you'll be charged RM12 for convenience fee alone, am i right ? I'm not familiar with Air Asia. Helped my friend to buy one ticket before and paid everything using direct debit. Didn't have to pay convenience fee.

HSBC Premier CC is World Mastercard category?
yes, you can see the writing WORLD on the card even. i spoke to my relationship manager to confirm this already.
yes true. having said that i must say Standard Chartered is really "cheapening" the World Mastercard. Its preferred banking world mastercard has a starting limit of RM 15,000! what the hell! Where as other players like cimb, maybank and mbf has general starting credit limit of RM 100k onwards.
No. That is not true. The HSBC Premier MasterCard issued by HSBC Malaysia is not a World MasterCard. HSBC has a standardized design for all its Premier MasterCard which is why the word "world" is also printed on the card where they do not actually offer a World MasterCard. The HSBC Group only issues World Premier MasterCard in USA, Japan and Australia to date. They only offer a regular Premier MasterCard in the rest of the countries.

Yup, I paid my TNB bills twice already, both trxns were posted within 2 days.

since you mentioned Non-posting of trxn, I also encountered same thing, but it happened in TM Online, not ocbc Internet banking itself. I received my latest TM bill and it showed I have made payment in last month. But the trxn has not been posted for 3 weeks.
Encountered similar problem. I usually pay for my TM Streamyx bill online via TM Online but i was at TM Point to sign-up for auto billing early this month. So i decided to pay for my September bill there too. Went there again last week and in their record, i have not paid for the September bill yet doh.gif

I beg to differ. Like I mentioned earlier, the word WORLD is stated on the card and I received confirmation from the HSBC Premier Relationship Manager with regards to this. To double confirm I called mastercard international too as I mentioned to them that the word WORLD on the card is merely part of the design. According to mastercard even, they have strict guideline when it comes to card designs and they do not easily approve designs which are misleading (eg. stating the word WORLD when it is not a WMC).

If standard design were to be the excuse, can you imagine X Bank writing the word INFINITE on its card when the card is actually a Visa Classic just because it's "standardized design"? I don't think so. Visa would be livid if it were to discover this. I have seen myself the same purple HSBC Premier Mastercard issued in certain countries without the word WORLD printed on it.
But sometimes you do know these bank employees do not understand their card product very well right ? HSBC Group released a statement a year or two ago that USA is the first country where it offers a World MasterCard follow by Japan and Australia. They do plan to roll this card out in all other countries but thus far there is no news on this. Australia was the last addition to their list of country that offers World MasterCard from the HSBC Group, if my memory serves me correctly.

And yes, HSBC Holdings has indeed signed up to offer World MasterCard from MasterCard Worldwide but Malaysia is not yet in the list it is offering this type of card.

Still card design is not worth mentioning. Even the HSBC's classic card design is much more interesting than HSBC's Premier MC. Not to mention despite the so called premier status ... this card is nothing less than a hyped up HSBC Platinum card. I'd rather hold the Platinum
Argh ... the VISA Platinum. Asked if it is possible for a Premier customer to get this card instead of the Premier MasterCard but was told it is not possible. They said even if a Premier customer requests for a Gold credit card, he or she will either have to pledge a time deposit account or apply using the normal route which is to submit your application with your salary slips.
