Mr Gen-X, any idea that how can we request the 10,000 points from MBB without cancelling the card?
*
Sorry sir, not able to assist you, I also want to know anybody else got points from MBB to offset GST.

I myself would have to pay RM50 GST to MBB soon as they have approved my re-application for Petronas Plat.

I only read in this thread once where a member got extra points to offset the GST.

Reason I getting MBB again is because next year onwards will be travelling more often overseas.

and grand saga highway (kajang-cheras) give 2x points! swipe rm500 already get 1000points! rclxms.gif
so rm500 already get back rm15. and of coz, plus 5% rebates from OCBC!

yeah go for esso/mobil smiles. coz for petronas mesra cards, 1 point is per 1 litre. but if shop inside mesra store then 1 point per rm1.
swipe petrol ron97 rm80 then store rm10 will get only 47 points, and 1000points can redeem rm10 fuel only sweat.gif
points will expire after 3 years. also will be void if there has been no activity made within 6 months  whistling.gif

finally! this morning i swipe around 11:20am then SMS immediately.

after 2 minutes got reply: "Congrats! You have won RM10 cashback."

so i bought another 2 things (each price is more then rm100), and ask the cashier to make the bill/swipe separately so i will get another 2 approval code.

SMS, and both also get RM10! so now "Your total cashback won to-date is RM30". thank u HSBC notworthy.gif

ask them to change the card. Call the CS and complain abit.
*
Just spoke to a MBB CS, he informed that the 2X overseas promotion for Plat card expired, and it was also applicable to Petronas Plat. But like you said, you were getting contradicting confirmation on this from different CS.

As for GST, if i was issued a card and there is not a single transaction within 3 months from issuance, the GST will be reimbursed if I cancel the card.

What date was the transaction ?
My OCBC Ti Mastercard transaction also around the same rate of ~2.45 (+/-) for the week of 7-14 Nov in Singapore

Maybank Visa was cheaper by a bit around ~2.42 (+/-)
*
Thanks for info above.

I was in Singapore on 6 Oct where I posted earlier Alliance Visa 2.44297, OCBC 2.41113 and DAWMC 2.41121. Based on this, I would be paying RM30 more for every SG1K using Alliance.

Based on your info above, MBB 2.42 and OCBC 2.45, MBB is cheaper by RM30 for every SG1K compared to OCBC or convert to Ringgit, savings of 1.23%. Considering my transactions where OCBC and DA rate almost same, MBB rate still beats my DAWMC even taking into consideration of the extra 1 reward points for overseas spending which gives equivalent to 0.5% "cash back".

Therefore if compared Alliance to MBB based on above data, the difference may go up to RM60 for every SG1K.

Anyone have comparison of rate for EON Bank with others? May consider EON Signature where it gives extra 1% for overseas spending in addition to 2X reward points.

Well some of you guys did not get the OCBC email for the internet rebate.

Today I got invitation from OCBC to attend Exclusive OCBC CC Event Privileges at Rolex Boutique Pavillion by Swiss Watch Galley on 1st Dec 7pm. It says with OCBC CC gets preferential retail rate, lucky dip with purchase and up to 18 months 0% instalment. Too bad I not into watches. FYI, I don' have any account with OCBC except for the Titanum card.

QUOTE(yuunasue @ Nov 18 2010, 11:54 PM)
Agree with your opinion. MBB orffer low conversion charge and admin charge compare with other bank card. But why you don't get S'pore card?

If you're using titanium to enjoy promotion, that great enough to use it, Example: OCBC card -10% item purchase. 1k item become 0.9k convert to rm approx 2.14kRM.  If you're using MBB card, although low charges but not worst. Cos you still have to pay full amount 1k. Choose the right merchant to use the right card ^^  rclxms.gif

*
And how to qualify for SG OCBC CC considering I don't work there ? And also I will be paying for conversion rate when I make payment from here. Actually I did thought of opening an account in SG and get a SG Debit Card but the interest rate for Savings Account is just too low. Actually the cheapest way to save on conversion is to go to our local money changer and use cash in SG.

Just got a call from Alliance bank, asking me whether did i apply for their credit card, they managed to get my name and ic correct, however all other details is incorrect, and i did not apply for any credit card from Alliance.

Anyone experience this before? I am afraid someone might be using my IC and apply for the CC, what should i do next? Report to BNM?
*
you are lucky the person who filled the application form wrote down your real contact number. You got the address and how the card to be collected? Go make police report. If the police want to catch the person easy as he/she will need to collect the card.

Yes, for selected merchants only. Need to think twice before deciding where to shop  sweat.gif
All in all, use Citi only at places where CIMB/DA do not give 5% rebate.
*
With the imposition of GST, we have been seeing more and more card issuers are giving "extra" and offering back to back promotion . Good for all cards uses in general where most of them still pays annual fees. Luckily not all cards users are like you, zenquix, hye, erry, ronnie, David83 and especially winner where we kjnow how to utilize credit cards to our benefits in terms of cash back and some with BT and if all customers like this, banks will be running at a lost. Who was the one that even pay on behalf of others with DA at KFC and share the rebate smile.gif

I applied for RHB Plat card yesterday by filling up form for PB where it states free annual fees waiver. Lets see how long it takes to be approved. Like hye said, RHB offers are not great but since it is free for my case and supp cards do get access to KLIA lounge, so supping a card to my son.

My car loan is up to date, just paid rm2.5k on my CC with HSBC..

Will go to Maxis to pay my phone bill in the evening..

Can anyone explained to me please?
*
your HSBC card more than a year and is there any carried forward outstanding?

Also what card did you apply for? Did you submit the relevant documents i.e. income tax form or EPF to proof income?

EDITED***

Just read in CCRIS thread where you mentioned you missed 1 month installment for HSBC and car loan got record 2 months behind. Sure lah don't qualify because you record is bad. Apply for CC after 12 months and from now till then make sure don't miss a single payment. But like b))n asked in the other thread, do you really need another card?

EON Signature I read their website - RM180K income or card with existing CL RM40K. 2X reward points for overseas spending plus additional 1% cash back for overseas transaction with condition need to spend RM10K overseas and limit cash back RM500. Annual fee waiver if spend RM30K.

my friend bought a desktop with the original receipt state RM1550 but the shop swipe RM 1581 because of 2% surcharge. can the original receipt n the cc slip become an evidence if he going to report to master card?
*
Not that I agreed nor diasgree with the surharge but what is there to complain? By signing on the transaction slip your friend have agreed to the amount. Nobody force him to accept the surcharge. He has the option not to purchase the item.

I bought a 23" LED last month at ALL IT, the saleman wanted to charge me extra 2% and I said no such thing as there was no mentioned of Cash Price Only on the item and in the end he agreed no surcharge. However I have paid 2% surcharge at certain merchants when I was being told upfront the price was Cash Price or there is a sign stating Cash Only prior to me agreeing on the price.

QUOTE(fuzzyguy @ Nov 21 2010, 10:12 PM)
hey guys,

I got a question regarding cash advance actually. Can anyone help me out?
I know the interest rate for cash advance is 18%pa. Let say, if I withdraw 2000 today, how is the interest be calculated? Do I need to pay back the lump sum of 2000+interest before the coming bill due date? Thanks
*
The moment you withdraw cash using CC, there will be an upfront fee imposed, can't remeber the % as I don't practice withdrawing cash with CC. Go read T&C. And you be charged daily interest based on 18% until the full amount is settled. Therefore with the upfront fee and daily interest, the actual interest you pay when annualized is damn high. Never take cash with CC, it the 1st step to the shit hole.

Gentlemen

Can we be more careful about using the term "threatening" the banks when it come to the GST subject? Already there has been a reader who want to only apply a card with the GST "waived" or else. And slowly the past few replies have been circling around "threatening" the banks to waive the GST.

IMHO ... I don't think we are setting the right example here in this forum and let's be more responsible for what we say. This thread was originally created to educate reader on good credit card consumer management and definitely not how to arm twist the banks about getting your own way. I have no issues about getting our value for money but to this extent then I don't think it's appropriate anymore.
*
I agree to above. As for the person who wamted a CC but did not want to pay the RM50 tax, I was like thinking to myself, hey then don't get a CC. The government imposed the RM50 tax for a reason besides getting more income and it has proved that cards in circulation have reduced by 2 million. It will come a time where the banks have to make a stand to absorb the RM50 or not or appeal to the governement to reconsider the GST as this offering of points to offset the GST will not go on forever. The banks can't keep absorbing the RM50 as it will cost them hundred of millions a year.

As for me, I will cancel cards that I am not getting any benefit from it and I don't ask for the RM50 waiver, if the bank offer then I will consider.

QUOTE(rockefeller @ Nov 24 2010, 12:09 AM)
something different happened to me.

at 230 pm, i received a call from maybank. they offered me 10,000 treatspoints to offset the govt tax. in addition, they offer me MR to waive my amex platinum's govt tax.

good for you. that makes 2 person now who have gotten points from MBB to offset GST. However maybe you should elaborate more on your cards usage MBB so that others may know what was the criteria that MBB took into consideration.

generally the CIMB and DA have the same benefits i.e. merchants that offer discount to CIMB also applicable to Direct Access. However not the Case for islamic cards.

click below for DA promotions
http://www.directaccess.com.my/index.php?t..._promotion_list

Some bank officers don't even know that Direct Access is from CIMB. When I went to MBB branch to reapply for MBB Petronas card gave them DAWMC, the officer asked if I got any other card? And I said is from CIMB lah, and she said she didn't know. Same case yesterday when I went to apply EON Signature card at branch, the officer also got no idea that DA is from CIMB. Once at MPH also, the staff said no discount voucher for DA. Conclusion, better get CIMB instead of DA.

blur on what is your question.

To update on my RHB Visa Platinum Card application, I applied for the card thru PB center on 19th Nov after lunch (last Friday) and Monday 22nd called CS to confirm if they received the application. Just check and was told application approved on 23rd Nov and card ready for collection at their card center ( requested to be collected as I want the card by this weekend) . Pretty efficient.

Also wanted to check status of my EON Signature application which was done at the branch last Tuesday, not in their system yet and when wanted to speak to a CS but was put on hold like forever. Luckily I damn free today so called their Visa Signature contact number also same case, "all our CS representative are busy at the moment, please hold on" repeated many times. I was getting pissed off and thinking of cancelling my application when a CS answered my called. Well the CS was very helpful and informed me the card centre yet to receive my application after checking and he promised to call me back later as he will check with branch.

best rebate OCBC Titanium and as for less finance charge, well OCBC Titanium, AMEX Gold CC and AFFIN Bank but not advisable as still high. If really need sone kind of financing either do installement plan for purchase or do balance transfer to cards that offer 0% for 6 or 12 months.

how long would it takes for Maybank to review the card application?
submitted the form on 12 Nov, they said only received it few days ago

then need to take about 5-14 working days to process

seriously wtf take them so long, even car loan also never take that long
*
MBB within 14 days would be the norm. But sometimes it takes longer if the person you submitted the form delay in forwarding to card centre or your documentation not in order. Actually for MBB, you can call the card centre (get the number from MBB website), speak to a marketing person where he will fax the form to you and you fax back the form to him and follow up with him.

I reapply for MBB Petronas Plat Visa at branch and it took less than a week to be approved (but to note MBB have my records as I use to have the Petronas MBB cards and now have AMEX Gold CC), the card was approved on 16th Nov and received it by poslaju on the 20th.

Also reapply RHB Plat Visa (cancelled few years back and I do banking with them) and took 4 working days to be approved from date of submitting the application. Submitted on 19th Nov and card ready on 24th Nov, picked up the card yesterday.

My Dad upgraded his DA Plat to World yesterday. All done by fax. Called Sunway Piramid Card Centre at 10am, they fax over application form, fax back the form and after lunch got a call from them to collect card. My mum supp card also automatically upgraded without her signing anything.

As for my Eon Card application, submitted form last Tuesday, as of yesterday not in system yet. And the CS who promised to check on my application failed to call me back. Not too happy with EON Bank as was made to hold pretty long eventho called the Signature Line. The general line worst, just wait and wait and wait like the old MBB. But MBB now answer calle pretty fast for Plat line.

Me not into watches and got a shocked yesterday, was at Watatime and saw than not many Rolex watches below RM20K and many above RM100K. My Dad was saying his new DAWMC also not enough to swipe for a watch and the first Omega watch he bought was only RM310 40 years back.

thanks for reading my blog and pointing out the errors, got you guy to proof read for me smile.gif

I just got back from Singapore, will update MBB rates compared to DAWMC, UOB & RHB.

Well, too bad I cancelled my Citibank Clear Card as many places offering 10% discount with Citi. Best if got DBS card in SG as many places offering discount for it. Maybe next time will go try get a DBS Debit/Prepaid Card. Certain malls spend SGD200 with Visa gets SGD10 voucher. Sommerset 313 giving SGD10 with SGD80 spend plus another SGD10 voucher is spend using UOB. SO I got SGD20 voucher at Sommerset 313 by spending SGD105.

Was raining while there on 29th Nov afternoon in SG. was hanging around Courts then and after spending time inside Courts still raining. Well beside Courts was UOB Bank, so my dad who has UOB Visa Plat with Privilege Banking under his name on the card (mine just normal Plat) asked if we could enter the Privilege Banking hall and my family we all welcomed and treated to free drinks thumbup.gif In SG, need SGD200K to qualify for Privilege Banking where as here only RM200K (less than half here).

As for Eraman Duty Free, fags no discount with CIMB/DA. I bought a bottle of brandy costing RM248 and 3 cartons of Malboro @ RM64/each and the casher instead offered me RM40 voucher (every RM100 get RM10 voucher if spend more than RM200) if Im opt not to go with CIMB/DA 15% where I will get only RM37.50 for the brandy.

To open account UOB PB needs RM300K but after that can reduce and maintain RM200K or was it RM250K.
