I wish to buy a new Nokia. I have never used a touchscreen phone before, but I'd like to, because the screen is huge (compared to the 2.2 inch, S40 Nokia I use). I am, tho, a bit concerned about word typing on a touchscreen phone.

Guys, these are the phones I am considering:

- C6-00 (touch, qwerty-slider)
- C5-03
- X6 8GB
- 5800 Xpress Music
- 5530 Xpress Music
- X3 Touch and Type (S40, 2.4 inch screen) RM550 at shop

Which one is worth the money or has most value? Quote/estimate price if possible please.

I am open to other brands, do you have any suggestions?

Thanks.
*
Please state your budget. for your information, Nokia 5800 is replaced by the Nokia X6.

If i am given all the option above, I would choose Nokia X6.

SE X10 thumbup.gif it is huge screen, but is pocketable
if it is too large, look for HTC Aria. these two if u want to try android.

if want to stick for symbian, can try either C6-01 of C7. C6-01 is kinda thick, but cute fella.. C7 is slimmer, and larger than C6-01. but those camera got no AF as on your 5800
what do u mean by pay for the apps? android also got paid apps actually. just, so far, only free apps are available in Malaysia. there are some trick to buy paid android apps brows.gif (android section got thread about that rolleyes.gif )
well, try SE X10. since u'll b using for browsing internet, the large screen will be comfortable. and the camera is so far, IMO, the best on android now.
what will u used for? messaging, =bb. if not, HTC's. but depend on your usage. elaborate more icon_rolleyes.gif

Well C7 have issues with the display as far as I am concern.

QUOTE(ghoss @ Jan 3 2011, 12:14 PM)
Yea ,it looks really good but I'm worried about the value . As new product comes out , it dropped really dramatically .

The new SE X10 I seen in Garage sales is around 1.2k . After a few months I think already 800..

But iPhone don't dropped that much but the new iPhone 4 not worth buying yet. Better wait for 2nd Gen.  rclxub.gif
*
X10 is a nice phone. But The first hand price still above 1k. I only saw 1 offer for Original SE Xperia X10 for RM999 in the garage sales (sold) for the lowest price seen for second hand.

QUOTE(Thinkingfox @ Jan 3 2011, 12:23 PM)
Hi, I would like to know how the Nokia X6 fares in terms of ordinary texting? Does it come with a virtual QWERTY keyboard? or the ordinary keypad?

Any complains about it so far?
*
For me, I prefer resistive touchscreen for better precision because my fingers are quite fat and always press the wrong button when using capacitive touchscreen. It is up to you to see which 1 suits you.

X6 is a touchscreen phone only. No keypad for it.

Is it reliable when you need them to fix your phone ??  unsure.gif

The issue is not about reliable or not when it comes to fix your phone. The issue is that the quality of the phone users got. My sister N95 AP set still working fine after the warranty period, but it failed suddenly.

Guys I wish to buy a new phone (any brand):

- <RM800
- Touch screen
- Qwerty slider
- Metal casing
- WLAN

Does any such phone exist, or do all of them cost >RM1000?
I don't mind ones that were made/released over a year ago.

Otherwise, I want a phone that has:

- Metal Casing
- Touch screen
- WLAN
- Costs less than RM800, ideally ~Rm600

I ask this because a lot of the touchscreen phones I have browsed through are all plasticky, and the closest thing (N97 mini with metal battery casing) costs >RM1000.

Added on January 3, 2011, 4:29 pmI saw the Nokia C6-01 which has a metal casing, but it's new and expensive.
*
Umm, why you don't want to use phone with the "plastic" casing?

Because plastic is flimsy and less durable compared to metal. I regret that my previous phone (made of ordinary plastic) has become badly damaged, even though I took good care of it.

Of course, any of them are fine if those "protective rubber/synthetic casings" are available.
*
So far, the phone i use with "plastic" casing does not suffer such a problem, except for my Nokia N95 because i use the AP casing instead of original casing. Even for the metal ones, it does not means that the colour won't fade as the time passes if you did not use original set.

QUOTE(queenc @ Jan 3 2011, 08:30 PM)
hello guys....

my budget is around rm2.5k

all i want is super smooth n fun touch screen handphone.. ( bonus big screen) and long lasting battery

i never try any touchscreen hp...

but i own ipod touch its damn smooth..but the battery life is short ( same as iphone 3g according to my fren xprience)
any idea guys?

how bout htc or iphone 3gs

i hear rumour n8 hv alot of prob...
*
It is said that N8 have some issues with it. If you like the capacitive touchscreen phone, iphone is one good choice.

It is better if you are willing to subscribe with contract with the telco company rather than buying directly unless with the Apple Store for a premium price.

For me, i do not like to spend the amount of money on phone as phone depreciate real fast. Iphone may have high resell value in the near future, but it does not mean forever.

QUOTE(LightningFist @ Jan 3 2011, 11:05 PM)
Thanks for recommending HTC Wildfire.
I'm not sure about its price, I found RM900-1000+ online, but since it's not super new it might be lower.

I believe 5530 might suit me more as it is less expensive. However, I am mostly concerned with Symbian ^1 since a lot of people complain.

If I wanted Android, what other phones could I get apart from HTC Wildfire, that have solid build quality (or at least have good protective casings available), and cost ~RM800 or less?

For Sony Ericsson phones I don't quite like the normal user interface. If I buy an Android or Symbian Sony Ericsson, does it become more user friendly (like Nokia) for someone not accustomed to the usual Sony Ericsson?

THANKS!
*
Umm, what kind of complain you have heard?

Please stay away from the Vivaz as SE have abandoned Symbian market. It is said no more further updates for the SE Symbian devices.

well i was curious about SE abandoning Symbian market...
Is is really serious that no more further updates for VIvaz is so terrible?
Is the phone so buggy or having alot problem that need to be fixed?
*

im stuck with symbian n android?
i also need kinda good quality in sound...any suggestion?

Nokia C6 have some issues with its touchscreen. It is said that SE have abandoned the Symbian market, so Vivaz Pro is not a good choice either. Looks like X8 is the best choice among those 3.

Are there touchscreen Android phones available (without major flaws) for ~RM600-800?

Android phones are still pricey currently. Want cheap? Stick with Nokia's Symbian, otherwise hike your budget.

LG Optimus - commented ugly? I suppose it looks ok, though some have called it boring.

But I think it costs over RM800.

Some girls are quite fussy about the design of the phone. It is normal. Different girl, different taste.

@Kelv

Nokia X6 should be a good choice for you, but the rectangular design is ok for your gal?

N8 is in your range as well with N series wifi, but the screen is slightly smaller. However, you might want to wait for a while for Nokia to solve all the issues affecting it.

Not necessary. You must have contact as well to get that price. As wuwah stated below, the concern is worth taking into considering as well.

QUOTE(wuwah @ Jan 7 2011, 10:46 PM)
not really... better buy from Lowyat.net tongue.gif garage sale got lower price phone, + confidence with the quality, not like shop, which some may claim ori, but it is not..

That is why i rather pay more expensive to get 2nd hand sets from here from the previous owner.

I see. Nokia also trying to cater demand like Apple and N8 short on supply?

sry for noob question, may i noe the price for these few model?

X6
Vivaz
galaxy-S
HD7
galaxy tab
*
X6 original is about RM800+ at least

Vivaz, I am not sure about the price and i won't find it because SE have abandoned the Symbian market, means no more updates for the firmware.

Galaxy S and HD 7 still quite expensive. It is about 1.8k above at least.

Galaxy Tab? Please, you want a 7 inch phone in your pocket? Anyway, it is about RM2k+ and i think it is overpriced.

After a few years of using it, can get liver cancer due to the radiation if the user does not face problem when claiming warranty.
