i always dc recently ,my connection is using wireless
any enthusiast can tell me how to do to get rid of dc?
1st, welcome to ubuntu linux!
Q1: to connect to wireless network, when u boot into ubuntu, within tray area u'll see network icon, left click on it n select the network/wireless point u wan2 connect to, done.
Q2: to install software, u can go to ubuntu button > add/remove application, of more advance, go to synaptic package manager, no need to go thru console/terminal input. this is 21st century.
Q3: Yum is for opensuse, ubuntuuse aptitude aka synaptic package manager.
Q4: virus? not in linux distionary yet, not as deadly as windows, so no need to worry much if u set root password already.
Q5: remember virtual memory in windows? its just that in linux it is a dedicated partition for it, so no more overhead like in windows. root? it can mean /, it is the root of all trees, like /home, /etc, /var...etc...or root in user term as admin, the 1 that has absolute power in changing anything in the system, u only need to use it during setup system files n installation/uninstallation, other time(during user space), there is no need to use it, thats y virus is news for windows(for now), not for linux, yet.
Q6: start learning ubuntu/linux? google is your best friend, its time for u to learn how to use google efficiently.

most importantly, when u r using linux/ubuntu, dont bring along windows mentality...ubuntu is much ezier to maintain n run than windows provided your hardware arent cutting edge or brand with poor linux support, like canon, adobe(software, their flash still in 32bit while linux has been in 64bit for ages! even 64bit drivers in linux r more mature) to name a few...
cheers!
