Added on September 18, 2008, 8:02 pmok, the most simple solution is under your third party source, check your cdrom. u install from your live cd again, this is a very brief description. if u dont understand, ask again, which part u need it to be specific hehe lazy lately tongue.gif damn hot outside...

yeap adobe is even better at bloatware than microsoft  notworthy.gif
*
haha look at their photoshop cs3, compares it to previous versions...u'll c its more bloat than anything before it! but for flash, its more due to no native 64bit, so we use wrapper for 32bit software...flash crash alot, when it crash, it brings along firefox! but now things changed, when flash crash, it leaves a gray space, firefox dont crash.

QUOTE(jordan86 @ Sep 19 2008, 09:37 AM)
My firefox also alway crash. When i try to go www.meebo.com, sure auto close one.

rclxub.gif

since u can online now, perhaps u can try to download this http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/network-manager-gnome and anything related to it now, n bring it back home for installation, but most of the time, simple config file should be able to make u go online...unless its ur router/streamyx...network manager is for simpler configuration only...

if u have the cd, u can use package manager to install network manager with cd as source, or the worst case scenario, reinstall if u dont wan hasstle tongue.gif but i think give it a try on install from cd. anyway, what system are u running? i just wan2 find out your system spec, n mayb report to ubuntu regarding the stability issue

anyone tell me how to install driver for my Dell 1420 Geforce 8400 128mb ddr3 graphic card?
and also my wifi driver...
*
for graphic driver, u can go to "system > administration > Hardware drivers" c if any is available.

for your convenience, dell have their own linux spot http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu_8.04 get the recovery dvd for 8.04.1 n just load it to your partition...it should solve all your questions. usually when u can see the desktop n u can connect to internet...those drivers r installed -.-" isnt it? other than gfx drivers, others will be loaded when the kernel started, this isnt winblows

QUOTE(bluswhitehat @ Sep 19 2008, 05:01 PM)
Hey guys, im on Linux Mint but since the Linux Mint thread is dead I have post this here.

My sister was using my PC to play some online flash based games, I was not at home at that time. She climed that suddenly an error window popped up and she just clicked ok and the computer restarted itself.

When I got home the computer would not connect to the internet, it says something about some PAD0 error. I usually set the pc to automatically connect and I will use the sudo poff dsl-provider command to disconnect if I need to disconnect to off and on my modem cos Streamyx totally "rocks".

When I got home later that day, I turned on the computer but it refused to go online and when I typed sudo pon dsl-provider in the terminal, terminal would hang for abit then say that pppoe did not respond.

I havnt had time to reformat the thing and I set up a manual connection and connecting manually seems to work fine.

So... any ideas what the hell PAD0 error is?

Thanks alot guys  smile.gif
*
for temporary solution, i suggest u store your streamyx login data into your adsl modem, so when u on the modem it connects itself(hope your model able to do that). pad0 error seems to be telco related/your MTU in ubuntu need to change to match your modem's...either way, u need to connect into your modem setting web gui 1st, if u dont know the ip address, it might be 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.255...try to connect into your modem's web gui to control the modem n make it auto connect to streamyx

The PPPoE Active Discovery Offer (PADO) packet

When the Access Concentrator receives a PADI that it can serve, it replies by sending a PADO packet. The DESTINATION_ADDR is the unicast address of the Host that sent the PADI. The CODE field is set to 0x07 and the SESSION_ID MUST be set to 0x0000.

The PADO packet MUST contain one AC-Name TAG containing the Access Concentrator's name, a Service-Name TAG identical to the one in the PADI, and any number of other Service-Name TAGs indicating other services that the Access Concentrator offers. If the Access Concentrator can not serve the PADI it MUST NOT respond with a PADO.

QUOTE(ginolo @ Sep 21 2008, 10:27 PM)
is there a key which function just like windows control+alt+del, then "end process" for linux ubuntu?

thanks
*
QUOTE(overlord_666 @ Sep 22 2008, 12:15 AM)
You can do that by using "System Monitor" (System>Administration). smile.gif
*
Have, a much more elegant way smile.gif install gnome-do 1st, let it startup with system, when u have gnome-do, use win+spacebar, type in system monitor.. or simpler way, alt+f2, type in system monitor... or, use ubuntu tweak, set alt+ctrl+del as system monitor...many solutions to your "problem" wink.gif

haha how green can computing could be? even with no lead in parts, v r still creating junks that ppl will throw out of their house in another 5~10yrs anyway... hmm.gif im thinking of green house tho, solar panels w/batteries to charge for off grid power(lower electricity bill n perhaps start my own EV project in future when my solar project really happens hehe), green roof(plants on roof to lower house heat), create better in house air circulation and indoor water cooler wink.gif that would b a great home to live in when u dont have to worry much about bills n heat, even noise!

QUOTE(myroom @ Sep 25 2008, 08:53 AM)
how to default back firefox in ubuntu 8.04? after i add on java it seem firefox cannot loaded hurmm.what comand should be write???
*
can be more specific? add on java? for ubuntu, the best way to install java is through synaptic package manager, find package call ubuntu-restricted-extras, it will install MP3 playback and decoding,
support for various other audio formats (gstreamer plugins), Microsoft fonts,
Java runtime environment, Flash plugin, LAME (to create compressed audio files),
and DVD playback.

for more media support, search synaptic for gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad, gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad-multiverse, gstreamer0.10-plugins-good, gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly, gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly-multiverse.

basically when u use linux, u cant use windows mentality anymore(well not most of it). its much ezier to get those stuff, no need to download individual stuff unless its not supported by ubuntu n 3rd party in repository. so now, uninstall that silly java u installed! hehe n install those tat i told u through synaptic package manager! im sure your firefox will be back without crashing wink.gif icon_idea.gif

Added on September 25, 2008, 2:36 pm1 more question , i am vista user .
i always dc recently ,my connection is using wireless
any enthusiast can tell me how to do to get rid of dc?
*
1st, welcome to ubuntu linux!

Q1: to connect to wireless network, when u boot into ubuntu, within tray area u'll see network icon, left click on it n select the network/wireless point u wan2 connect to, done.

Q2: to install software, u can go to ubuntu button > add/remove application, of more advance, go to synaptic package manager, no need to go thru console/terminal input. this is 21st century.

Q3: Yum is for opensuse, ubuntuuse aptitude aka synaptic package manager.

Q4: virus? not in linux distionary yet, not as deadly as windows, so no need to worry much if u set root password already.

Q5: remember virtual memory in windows? its just that in linux it is a dedicated partition for it, so no more overhead like in windows. root? it can mean /, it is the root of all trees, like /home, /etc, /var...etc...or root in user term as admin, the 1 that has absolute power in changing anything in the system, u only need to use it during setup system files n installation/uninstallation, other time(during user space), there is no need to use it, thats y virus is news for windows(for now), not for linux, yet.

Q6: start learning ubuntu/linux? google is your best friend, its time for u to learn how to use google efficiently.
~EnD~

most importantly, when u r using linux/ubuntu, dont bring along windows mentality...ubuntu is much ezier to maintain n run than windows provided your hardware arent cutting edge or brand with poor linux support, like canon, adobe(software, their flash still in 32bit while linux has been in 64bit for ages! even 64bit drivers in linux r more mature) to name a few...
cheers!
