in your repositories setting, under "update" tab uncheck "unsupported updates (hardy-backport)", then refresh your repo. search network manager in package manager...look for network-manager and network-manager-gnome

haha look at their photoshop cs3, compares it to previous versions...u'll c its more bloat than anything before it! but for flash, its more due to no native 64bit, so we use wrapper for 32bit software...flash crash alot, when it crash, it brings along firefox! but now things changed, when flash crash, it leaves a gray space, firefox dont crash.

Have you tried to edit /etc/network/interfaces ?

code:
~$ sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces

then add the following line accordingly

#The primary network interfaces
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.x.x
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.x.x

then save the file and try to connect using wired LAN..

since u can online now, perhaps u can try to download this http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/network-manager-gnome and anything related to it now, n bring it back home for installation, but most of the time, simple config file should be able to make u go online...unless its ur router/streamyx...network manager is for simpler configuration only...

if u have the cd, u can use package manager to install network manager with cd as source, or the worst case scenario, reinstall if u dont wan hasstle tongue.gif but i think give it a try on install from cd. anyway, what system are u running? i just wan2 find out your system spec, n mayb report to ubuntu regarding the stability issue
