THE N8 smartphone is possibly Nokia's answer to the iPhone4. With Symbian^3, a new operating system, N8 delivers faster multi-tasking performance, supports gestures including multi touch, flick scrolling and pinch-zoom as well as responsive user interface.
It also enables users to take part in online social scene, create high resolution photos and videos and enjoy web TV programmes.
It is also the first smartphone to boast a 12-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash.

Other useful specifications include HSDPA Cat9 network support, WLAN IEEE 802.11b/g/n connectivity and extensive GPS features. Available in five stylish colours, the model features a monoblock design which incorporates a non-user-replaceable 1200 mAh battery in its anodised aluminum body. Nokia's Singapore and Malaysia product management head Glen Cha said N8 offers three homescreens, which users can retain, delete, add and further personalise to their liking. Users can add widgets and shortcuts to their favourite applications on the homescreens to suit their needs. Some of the available web TV widgets that come preloaded with the N8 are CNN Asia, TV3, 8TV, E!Online and National Geographic.
For online social networking site (SNS) buffs, the N8 has a social client which supports popular services such as Facebook and Twitter.
"The N8 allows tight integration of social networks into your personal life. Commonly used tasks and features which you regularly access on your notebook such as posting comments or adding photos can now be done on the N8. You can also search and add SNS details to a contact in the Phonebook," said Cha.
The N8 also offers enhanced multimedia handling capabilities, improved media player and better camera. "For multimedia playback, it supports Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound standard. With the right equipment paired, users can experience 5.1 channel audio effect." The camera also features 720p HD video recording capability. Other value-added features are microSD card slot that supports capacities up to 32GB, micro-USB 2.0 port for files transfers and charging as well as built-in premium navigation and travel guides from Lonely Planet and Via Michelin to go with Ovi Maps.
Users also get quicker access to Nokia's Ovi Store, which houses more applications compatible with the N8. Nokia also introduced Qt, a software development environment that enables developers to build applications and have them supported across Symbian and other software platforms.
He was trying hard not to say "like the iPhone" when describing pinch-to-zoom... in fact, the interviewer might have said "like an iPhone" cause it sounded like she was going to say something, but the audio gets cut at 0:44...

what makes iphone 4 or the previous one good is the app.. tons of it.. even the free ones is kinda good in quality..
in terms of features and hardware, it sucks balls.. other phones can beat it hands down in terms of that.. facetime is just a crap feature that an ifag would go super hyped about and jump off the building..

It was confirmed that the price will be less than RM 1800. Compare to iPhone with no video call, no FM transmitter, no Xenon Flash, no HDMI and price more than RM 2000... I'll say N8 is worth buying.

i don't think it will destroy iphone. as Iphone in western world (with contract) starts only from US$99. what I like about N8
1) can plug in external drive, wireless keyboard, wireless mouse amongst other things 2) so... can connect the N8 to the HDVT/Monitor 3) so.. that way I can do surfing on my HDTV/monitor with the N8, also play games, also play movies from my external drive, play youtube video, etc... 4) Offline GPS ovi map, enough said 5) 12MP Carl Zeiss lens

try posting this in the photography section and notice how many will flame you for this statement. All phone cameras suck, the noise level due to the small sensors will always be there, and the fact it's still point and shoot category, even my film based SLR can beat this anytime.
Symbian is a dead horse on life support man. I'm not an iphone supporter but Nokia really needs to work on their symbian. With competitors like Android and windows OS they have no room in the smartphones market
Karo Holmberg said: Could you explain to me why you have taken these shots differently? It looks like you have composed the picture by choosing which fits better?
Shots taken with the EOS are taken with much lower angle compared to the N8 – that means that the darker areas are in bigger quantities in the EOS photos. It might sound like it doesn’t matter, but when you have two different kind of photos taken from the same place; the other has 20% of bright areas, and the other has 30% of bright areas – the autoexposure makes the photos totally different and they can’t be compared with each other..
So your examples and test are pretty much, sorry for telling this, not any good for comparing these two items
hahahaha....almost DLSR level??are u kidding Mr Tan or Tommy

i am just a layman and normal user.
so are many of the target audience who want a phone with good camera
seem like in smaller size regular used, it is comparable to dslr!
yeah just try to pm my taiko and repeat what you said and also bring your N8 for a shootout with this fellers, i'm sure they'll be happy to do a real review with you on the spot.

obviously dlsr better it is specialist tool but with good camera on N8 it is good for the user right?
last time b4 i bought iphone.. i told ppl that nokia 5800 has almost the same function as iphone and its cheaper ! after i played with my friend's iphone.. i will never go back to any other phone in terms of its usability, application, eye candy, and the UI optimization.. ill choose android over its customization and n8 for its camera..
wasnt refering to you that blog was a good comaprison i have no issues with comparing if a DSLR90 can allow me to make phone calls and priced around N8 i will surely consider it of course.
nah, if that blog was a good comparison, canon would go bankrupt, the reviewer didnt even use the right camera angle for both devices, how is this fair comparison or good in any regards? try to go to websites like this one here http://www.dpreview.com/, here a sample of three pictures using the same settings and angle for three cameras. A850 v. A900 v. 5D Mark II – ISO 200
ISO 200 @ 8s
this is what you call objective comparison not some lowya comparison.
