Nope, those notebook won't last long since they are using Quad core...
For long battery life and performance, you would need notebook with Switchable GPU,
something like HP DM4, Acer 4820TG, Lenovo Y460...
By now, the favourite is Acer 4820TG, providing the larger capacity battery than others and also better GPU with the cheapest price among three (RM2599)...

Means no 14''?
13'':
Dell Vostro 3300, i5 560M + Nvidia 310M, Pro@RM3169

15'':
Dell Vostro 3500, i5 560M + GMA HD@RM2969

else
14'':
Asus X42Jr, i7 740QM + ATi HD5470@RM2799

But you need to drop the black colour except for 14''...

a) Still no bad comments since it still new in the market..
b) 1GB and 2GB won't have big difference, but GT420M and GT435M does, GT435M is overclocked version GT420M...

4820TG has better GPU
4820TG has thinner profile
4820TG has bigger capacity battery

In short, take 4820TG unless you are nVidia lover...

Well, by next year there's the ATi HD6000 series, AMD's Fusion and Intel's Sandy Bridge...
Just follow the rule, buy when you need it...

Taking other factors as constant, yes, the i7 and 435M will generate more heat...

Problem such as.. ?

Well, indeed i7 will generate more power, but with more performance, more heat as well...

Good enough is certainly subjective question, it would depends on your standards on what is good enough...
But for me, its good enough.
