QUOTE(silveraven @ Nov 1 2010, 12:27 AM)
Hello! I hope you can help smile.gif

I'm currently looking for a new laptop, price range around RM2,500. I've walked around and I've shortlisted these few models:

Toshiba Satellite L645-1090X
Sony Vaio VPC-EA35FG (on promo at a local Sony store)
Lenovo Ideapad Z360-i5
HP G42-380TX

I do have a preference towards Toshiba as I've been using one for the past 4 years and it's still pretty good, just that the battery doesn't work anymore (that's why I'm looking for a replacement). But I'm open to suggestions and recommendations.

Thanks smile.gif

p/s: Does Toshiba laptops still come with a recovery disk? 'Cos that would really be great - can format the laptop myself, hehe~
*
Any specific usage?
If looking for something light, the Z360 works well...
No recovery disk anymore...
Need to burn your own..

QUOTE(annbang @ Nov 1 2010, 12:30 PM)
4820tg is with ATI radeon. i heard tat Nvidea is better than ATI isnt it?
*
You need to compare each model, not just by brand...

QUOTE(annbang @ Nov 1 2010, 03:05 PM)
lenovo u460 or inspiron 13R better in terms of specs?
*
Inspiron 13R with HD5470...

QUOTE(icycokes @ Nov 2 2010, 02:18 AM)
hi can anyone recommend me a laptop which can tailor my needs?

prefer
light
small
never use optical drive
good battery life (at least 4 hrs)

light gaming preferred. at least want a pc that can play warcraft 3 and sim city 4/Cities XL. but the main thing is i want the pc to be very portable.

been eyeing Asus u35JC. but any other choices?

TIA!
*
Other choice is Lenovo Z360, but U35Jc got bigger battery capacity, hence last longer...

QUOTE(icycokes @ Nov 2 2010, 03:12 PM)
hopefully below 3k
guess i will have the asus in the end. the only battle is between Acer 3820TG and Asus U35JC. i think U35JC suits me better with its battery life. any other brands?
4820 is 14"? dont want anything larger than 13. 3820TG seems nice but i dont need such powelful laptop. the 3820TG is powered by i7 in spore. and abit over budget also.. sad.gif

compaq HP lenovo toshiba those not coming out with small laptops?

THANKS ALL for recommendation.
*
There is 3820TG with i5 460M, the i7 model is quite rare...
Basically is around Asus U35Jc if need lightweight and long battery life without much graphical power...
There's Lenovo Z360...

QUOTE(annbang @ Nov 2 2010, 03:22 PM)
anyone can tell me the pros and cons of lenovo u460, i was attracted by the thickness and weight. but is the laptop heated up very fast? or it keep very warm all the time, becoz i need a laptop for gaming for a long hours but thin and light.
*
Don't get U460 if you want for gaming, its GPU is weak for current games...
Better take Acer 4820TG, i5 460M + ATi HD5650/GMA HD@RM2599

QUOTE(annbang @ Nov 2 2010, 05:01 PM)
any other laptop around RM2200-2400 which is lightweight for gaming?
*
As above, Acer 4820TG..

Nothing.
Next choice is Lenovo Y460, i5 460M + nVidia GT425M, but higher price RM 2999...
or find leftover stock Asus A42Jv, i5 450M + nVidia GT335M, should be under RM2.5K if could find...
or Dell Inspiron 14R, i5 460M + ATi HD550v@RM2599
HD550v is HD4650, and you don't get thin profile and long battery life like Acer 4820TG....

Future games will run at DX11
Most games now run at DX10...

Playing in DX11 tax more on GPU, which result in lower performance...

Overkill or not, its depends on your demand...
Alienware provide better performance
MBP provide long battery life with good performance...
Price wise, its more expensive than XPS 15 though...

For Asus, there's Asus N53Jq, i7 740QM + nVidia GT425M@RM3999

Hey i'm searching for a laptop below RM2000;
14 inch and above screen, better for video streaming and
last longer hour without charging =)
*
15'':
Dell Vostro 3500, i3 370M + GMA HD@RM1939
14'':
Acer 4738, i3 370M + GMA HD, freeDOS@RM1699
Asus A42F, P6100 + GMA HD, freeDOS@RM1699
Toshiba C640D-1005U, P6000 + GMA HD, freeDOS@RM1549

But you won't really get long battery life, expect around 2-3 hours...
