I have a growing number of contacts in Whatsapp but I don't think anyone is using pingchat. Whatsapp integration with the mobile number makes a whole leap of difference to find your friends using the service. I will probably be paying for whatsapp because it's works so well to connect with friends whose location isn't feasible for SMS anymore.

Question of the day: How to activate original Android keyboard on SGS? I want to try speech-to-text input.

Hey guys,

Anyone knows what's the easiest way to set a profile for SGS? I had to go to settings every time i need to set the ringer tone volume lower or just turn of the vibrate. Please help, thanks!
*
Pull down notification bar and press vibrate for vibration mode. For lower tone, just push volume down (?)

QUOTE(lch78 @ Oct 12 2010, 08:57 AM)
whatsapp, pingchat, what is so special? Just another msg apps to me...

Is gtalk a push msg apps too?
*
Because it is a good SMS alternative for people who is living away from Malaysia. If I want to SMS to UK, DiGi charges 20c per SMS. Whatsapp only charge $1.99 a year.

QUOTE(angel-girl @ Oct 12 2010, 09:33 AM)
anyone tried fast reboot pro?will it damage the phone??
*
I use it. No damage also.

QUOTE(hxcpride @ Oct 12 2010, 10:56 AM)
ive been using speech to text input, so cool! your phone talks haha. why do u want to use original android keybord on sgs? im using swype btw
*
Swype can use speech to text? Mine couldn't. The original android keyboard has built in speech to text engine. Or did you mean you're using Vlingo?

Well, I can install vlingo but it will cause my phone to restart if I change EXT2 to RFS and vice versa, without uninstalling vlingo.

I installed Social Hub push mail and IM.

Push mail - Pretty good. I am now considering whether to remove my account from default Email app and just use this new push mail app. I should be able to save some battery by using push mail.

Push IM - Decent but not as pretty as MSN Talk. Does not support simultaneous log in unlike MSN Talk. I don't think I will consider to uninstall my MSN Talk yet.

The default task manager don't have to be removed. Just others like Advanced Task Manager.

Anything that kills task to free up memory is task manager. All of these cannot be used with whatsapp with the exception of the default task manager from Samsung.

Advanced task killer is a task manager. Uninstall all of these.

but thats the most app that im suing ..and its on my widget LOL i kill apps every 20 mins lol
any other substitute app like that...where whatsapp ok with it? or just use stock task manager?
*
Whatsapp claims that using task manager will cause battery drain and message delay if you use it together. So it's either to give up whatsapp or task manager.

sorry if i bring this question again:
how to set different ringtone for incoming sms and incoming email? and also how to change notification sound e.g upcoming schedule?
*
To change SMS notification, go to Messaging and change settings. Likewise, for email, go to email and change the settings within Email application.

Pull down notification. Press vibrate. Then it will be silent and vibrating.

Otherwise, push volume down. To vibrate but not until silent.

Definitely ok. I feel my battery last even better by just letting Android manage background apps.

Depends on what the app do. If the app has little or no CPU usage, then there won't be any battery drain.

You're taking risk when you kill tasks automatically. Certain processes are killed unexpectedly and then has to be restarted again to complete its task. That's how task killer can also drain battery.

They say Skype is officially for Android
Why I can't find it in the Market?
*
Only for selected countries. You can google for the apk or if you have a rooted device, you know what to do.

QUOTE(Harddisk @ Oct 13 2010, 12:18 AM)
lol, it sorta improves a lot after I stopped Tango and PingChat services. *wipe sweat*

Installed and setting up.

So, I just stop using the default email checking?

Disable it or set timer to infinity of sort? lol

Now can check Yahoo! Mail, which is good. The Yahoo's apps (both Mail & Messenger) really suck.
*
I totally deleted off the email account on default email app. tongue.gif

Battery drain is about the same like original email app.

Guys,

Is there an app to use voice command on the SGS? Like writing a message or do a google search. Thanks for the help.
*
The voice dialer that comes with the phone can perform simple voice command but not typing a message.

Just need some clarification.

Is this skype connection over wifi or 3G?

Or can it be made over both?
*
Wifi at the moment. 3G connectivity hack has been done in XDA-developers though.

Added on October 13, 2010, 12:49 pmBtw, Guitar Hero sucks. It cannot detect multitouch on my device and that makes me fail badly in Expert mode because they need multitouch.

Likely not to work on your Eclair Samsung Galaxy S. Skype has said that it isn't working yet for SGS.

Exception for Froyo Galaxy S.

Obviously Galaxy S also. Guitar Hero doesn't want to detect 2 fingers or more. So I uninstalled it and continued with life.

I don't have multitouch problem with other apps.

Damn... took a wrong way to flash my phone... now end up black screen... but I could not use "volume-down + home + power" to enter download mode. Any other way?
*
Almost no chance of recovery unless you believe in the small chance of entering download mode by random moments or using hairdryer/oven trick. Better save yourself from trouble and just send it to Samsung before you get frustrated and wreck the phone apart.

It's just a phone. Why do you seem to take it religiously? With the amount of money you paid for SGS, I believe there's little difficulty to just grab another iPhone or HTC device.

arghh.. why linpack result still 14 even on froyo? my previous Desire got 36 on froyo.. come on samsung!!
*
Linpack benchmark has little to do with file system. Similar to computers, linpack is used to benchmark the CPU. Desire can score high in Linpack because the algorithm in Linpack uses high FPU calculation, which Hummingbird is not optimised for. No matter how you pray that Samsung will do something, the day will never come unless you change the CPU of the phone, which is impossible. Benchmark are done in extreme manner, of which is likely not to happen in real life. There should be no real-life distinguishable difference although Linpack results is far away.

Do you guys feel the phone lags a little after installing the push Social Hub?

The battery consumption is somewhat higher by 10% a day compared to conventional email app.
