how you know that they are cutting cost? u work there before? any idea what is happening with shell business centre recently?
if you read other threads as well as some of the postings, you would be able to deduct :
1) shell is restructuring a lot of times, this is due to trying to globalize all different business and to become a competitive oil and gas player
2) shell is realigning the structure to group things to an entity that can be outsourced later
3) shell is now as good as other companies, which means the benefits and salary MIGHT have been downgraded, to allign with other MNCs are providing
4) many left is a usual reflection of such moves due to better offer, inconvenience location, cut off benefits due to creation of a service entity(that makes
it's employees feel something major is being taken away from them, usually family man) as well as mushrooming of new business service centres of
other companies that chooses Malaysia as a low cost area to leverage the cost, which is also
competing with Philipines and India.
5) a shift of opportunities move from the west to asia pacific, therefore many trying to fight for positions in Asia Pacific with the locals.
again, above are my opinion only.

however if you decided to join, do look at the experience people's face, NOT fresh graduate face. For those fresh graduate whether come in under the graduate scheme or into service desk jobs....they are just "termakan" with the jenama SHELL, so as cheerful as you can get...for those experience ones, you might suspect it is the season for period or mid-life crisis, but it's NOT. And when you ask, their mouth will be more than wonderful to sing the sorrow song for you to hear....
there's only a few employee that face will always be glad :
1) fresh grad
2) employee that manage to escape from the SITI outsourcing
3) employee that manage to get promotion from service centres terms to shell malaysia terms

but at the end of the day, be happy to have a job lahhhhh....
