Hi guys,
Lets say I want to switch to the new iPod 5th gen. Is there any way I can copy whatever I have (such as playlist, games, notes) in my iPod 4th gen to the 5th gen so the 5th gen will have exactly what I have previously in the 4th gen?

I thought you have iTunes for that? sweat.gif

Only itunes will allow you to completely restore everything exactly the same like it was before, down to your brightness settings. Nothing comes close to it on this regard. Maybe you can try itunes 11 once its out, might be nicer to use...

Best (and only) way is via iTunes, which is how my data has continued from the 2nd gen iPod touch all the way to the new one... Of course, like what baretta mentioned, you can try the iCloud as well, for wireless syncing...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you sync your ipod touch with itunes, whatever files thats in your ipod (such as mp3s and videos) must also be in your harddisk, right?
Are you still able to sync it if some files are missing in your harddisk? Is itunes able to take the missing files from your ipod and save it to your harddisk to sync it?
I've only used itunes once and it seems like thats how it seems to work. And its a real pain which is why I switch to other softwares.

It won't go to Singapore, FYI, but direct to KL... Dunno how long you have to wait though, but the touch could be at your doorstep earliest Monday, after it has cleared customs in Malaysia...

No, you can still sync with iTunes even if your data is not the same with whats in your hard disk. iTunes will perform backups of all the apps you've bought since your last sync and copy them to your hard disk. Then, you can use that backup file to sync with the new iPod. So, your new iPod will be just like your old one.

Of course this can only happen if you sync your iPod at least once before, using the same iTunes. If you try to sync to other people's iTunes, then you cannot do the backup.

PS: If you never used iTunes, how'd you put all them music onto your iPod?

Thanks for the info. I use a third party software called "CopyTrans" which is recommended by others to transfer music and videos to my iPod. So far so good.
