I have a question for the aspiring writers on lowyat.

Ever get that sudden flash of inspiration, that one moment of brilliance where you're on a roll, and you keep on writing and writing, every word falls in to place, every thought perfectly articulated on paper, emotion positively dripping from the pages, and you think "Oh god I'm a bloody genius. People should be begging me to let them read my written Word".

You stare at it in amazement, scanning through it again, and think "God I wrote this? I mean I thought I was good but I didn't know I was THIS good", and you walk away grinning like mad.

Then, after a day or two, you come back to read it and you think "God I wrote this? This sappy melodramatic sob fest? A angsty emo kid who wails about how life sucks could write better than this" , cringing at every sentence.

I get this feeling every single damn time. Is this normal? 0-o

I think that's better fit when you are writing a diary or a blog.

For that, I think it's normal. =)

Yeah, that's actually pretty normal... just do not give up on writing. Whenever an unwanted emotion (whatever that is) comes, just write whatever it brings you. Tell yourself it's ok to do so because you need some time to be mature with your words.

very normal... u're ur own worst critic.... it's always better to get second opinions and to do some editing after u're done with the first draft or so =)

The thing about writing is that it is not a flash in the pan thing. It's not about getting inspired and just writing a whole novel at one go. It's about consistency. It's about doing it every day. Like, if you're a sportsman, you'll train everyday to be a good, competitive sportsmen. It's the same with writing, do it everyday, at least for a little bit everyday and you'll see a difference.

I actually go quite the opposite...at first I'm my own worst critic...I read it over and over again and decide I hate it and I can never write well. Then I drop it and stop writing because I can never seem to write it right. Then a few months later I come back and reread it and I'm like whoa...I wrote that? Why did I stop??
