Hi guys, need some advice here.

I've got a PS3 bought about 3 years ago when Sony Malaysia first started selling them officially. Lately, my 5 y.o. son been playing a lot on it and a problem developed. When playing any disc game, the ps3 would shut down a few minutes afterwards and theres a red light blinking. I can only restart the ps3 manually after that and theres usually a message "Your PS3 wasnt shut down properly....bla bla" before the normal start screen.

I think its a overheating problem. My questions are:

1. How much does it usually cost if i send it to Sony for repairs? Is it worth sending it since some people reported that their problem wasnt fixed when they got their ps3 back.

2. If I buy a new slim ps3, can I use my 500gb hd from my fat ps3?

So I send the unit to Sony pickup centre in Alor Setar 2 weeks ago and they just called. Apparently, some board is damaged and it will cost RM740.00 to replace. Thats more than half the cost of new unit and I'm leaning towards buying a new slim unit and just slam in my old 500gb hd.

Any opinions?

p/s-i always eject from xmb.press triangle and pick eject disc.

The av power cord, it should be 2-pin or 3-pin? i got a 2-pin..

2 pin.. how much? did they sell the console alone to need to buy games?

Got it at 1280 with hdmi cable and 3D collection game + some minor gift.

Guys, i have a 19' widescreen lcd monitor from dell, i would like to ask, if its compatible with the PS3, DVI-hdmi converter and a Y audio splitter is enough to do the job right?

Im quite new to this PS3 console, Im currently interested in it just because of the GT5 game, Im not much of a console gamer,
so yea. i dont think i will spend 1k for a new console, just to play 1 game. Can anyone advise me on what to look out for when buying a used Ps3 console, Fat / Slim.

hey dude, can any1 help me how to differentiate malaysia set ps3 and singapore ps3 set? going to get 1 set... but dunno how to differentiate..
