Now that is a massive project. That is a good step. Make sure you understand the whole structure first before attempting to modify it.
Lol. Where is the challenge in that?

I'm expecting some graphic, geometric issue for initial. Btw, got a another OS UI idea this morning.

Mind sharing what this new UI is all about? Is it just a graphical modification or a revamped system altogether?

Nice, welcome aboard friend.
Welcome friend. That is a great idea if you don't mind. People are looking any tip or tutorial to start with.

I think Google can do that already. You can sync your contacts in your Google account.
*
yeah right. but what if people do not want to use Google Account or they want to backup independent of any email accounts? Also the main thing is that it should be open Source and Free for everyone. I know WaveSecure can do it but for a price. I need lots of ideas and discussions regarding this. Let me know if anyone thinks that this App has potential?

Remember I mentioned about Android for dummies?

I had the privilege of time to slowly try Eclipse with a friend of mine but not everyone would have the determination to start off with something with they aren't familiar with.

So I written Android Development Tutorial for Dummies: http://mengsuan.blogspot.com/2010/10/andro...torial-for.html

The tutorial covers steps to prepare a computer where writing the first app is possible, alongside with illustration. No Java tutorial included because that's not my proficiency. Try it guys!

This is a follow up for the previous tutorial: http://mengsuan.blogspot.com/2010/11/app-i...or-android.html

App Inventor allows creation of apps without the need of any programming knowledge. Only logical thinking is required. Extremely easy to build an app biggrin.gif

I am actually looking forward to create a new thread to gather amateur Android enthusiast to exchange knowledge for app writing, if there are a handful amount of people to use the thread. How do you guys say?

Hey mengsuan, I can see that you're progressing quite well. And sorry guys for keeping quiet on the thread, been too busy working. I'm only home for 6 hours everyday! Btw, I'm trying to learn about Linux first, so the process of learning Android will be less painful.

I don't want to sound cruel... but it is very hard to collaborate a project with random people online.
Those who have skills and ambitious might not stay for long without monetary benefits.
Those who are ambitious but no skills might stall or even drag down the entire project.
The worst is some people will join for fun but doing nothing.
Eventually the project will just die when the starter and everyone else lost interest in it.

It will be very lucky even for the project to be released half-cooked... most of the time, it will just die at alpha stage.
Why I know? because i had been through similar situations.

Thanks for your honest opinion. I understand what you're trying to say, but please read the first post. It is already stated that this is not a full-blown project or anything like that. I created this thread as platform for us Android users to share our expertise or ideas willingly with others. I'm sorry for you because you've been through situations like that, but I do not appreciate your that you sound like you're implying people here do it just for fun. The truth is we are doing it for fun, we're not trying to make any money with this. And most people have jobs. I, myself gets only 4 hours of sleep everyday, online once or twice a week. So I hope you understand the real situation here. If you have an idea on an application or something, you can share it here. Somebody with the right skills might read it up and be interested. Then both of you can start the project yourself. This is how this thread suppose to work. A place for sharing.

what i'm suggesting is to be sure of level in 'elasticity of demand'~ a product/service can be sold cheaper but to more people~ vice-versa; more expensive but to less clients~ we should have more than 100,000 apps in the Android market now~ when this number increases, several numbers increases in tandem, one of which is the 'adex' or advertisement expenditure~

my opinion is to produce an app not to be sold to many in the market but to few to enterprises, those that will have recurring needs for enhancement of the same app~

the basics is the same; know what clients want and then work/package the offering in the way that they want to see it~

a line i like to remind myself; to do is one thing and ability to execute is another but ultimate aim is to successfully execute~

Google Docs with Google Groups can do wonders for a small team by lowering the initial capital investment~

I fully agree that without sufficient passion or some form of encouragement, like monetary benefits, it's hard for anyone to stay long~ from my first post here, I hope that any project being designed will aim for some form of reward~ it can be for a grant, one-off project for an organization for money, or formation of an entity which can earn recurring profit~ other forms will be self-satisfaction, to enhance skills, fame, etc.~ I'm sure a team will go far if the motivation is the reason for an app being made (or else, we'll be seeing more Ghost Detecting App and the likes)~

u are indeed wise to start off small~ i hope that there is a chance to grow~ in my opinion, time is a commodity and my opinion is to aim for a grant which will fuel interest, take care of capital expenditure, and provide fuel to continue moving your team~ i think the hardest part is getting people that think similarly and I hope u do get to find these people~

for idea, in my opinion, it can only be discussed when there is a team of diverse knowledge, skills, and experience~ coz they will individually have opinions of their own on any idea~ if an idea is formed first, what if the majority votes against it?~ in marketing, it's easier to know what the client wants, then provide instead of the other way around~

Actually how is the Lowyat Android project progressing?

Any discussions about it already?

How much research has been done?

Why is everyone still doing the dummie tutorials? Pls get Commonsware Android tutorial book pls.

No meetups so far?

Well, at least Tapatalk API is useful. I'll get on that and see how it works.
