Hi guys,

I don't know where to go but I though I might as well post it here. Although the Android community on lowyat.net is not that big, we might have some talented and knowledgeable people here. So I want to start a thread on which we can discuss on software (apps and games) developing/development for the Android platform. Some of you might have a great story for a game but don't have the coding knowledge or vice versa. So consider this as a hub for idea sharing. This may or may not be an official project that in the end will produce a working software. We'll see how it goes first although I'm pretty skeptical about it.

People that I'm looking for :

Writer (to write storyline/dialogue/journal/etc.)
Designer (to design the structure of the software/game level/software layout/etc.)
Visual Artist (to design the UI of the software/concept arts/sprites/etc.)
Sound Engineer (to create sound effects/tunes/background music/etc.)
Programmer (to write codes of the program/implements accelerometer support into software/etc.)

MIND YOU!

I'm not trying to hire anybody, I just want to create a space for all of the above to share ideas and maybe work on a project. This WILL NOT be an official project where you will get paid. However if things turn out to be on the bright side, it might be.

So,

Anybody with some experience or knowledge on the above said are free to share your idea around. Anybody is also welcome to share your idea like what software should be develop or what do you want on your phone. And please keep those silly ideas away (we don't need another fart apps or porn live wallpaper), no offense.

Now, keep 'em coming guys!

Current suggestion :

XDA App-like for Lowyat.net

android uses Java as their main programming language.
the hard part is probably learning the functions of the many android packages.

my suggestion:-
Lowyat.net app (like XDA app)
Don't have any programming knowledge and skills (medical student here)
Hoping someone would develop that app (free one, can't afford to pay coz don't have credit card)

XDA uses Tapatalk. I unofficially mentioned it to se7en. Apparently Lowyat.Net has considered Tapatalk but was unable to implement because of IPB version. So, it's a no-go.

The first thing that I recommend is reading through Android Dev page to get the rough idea on how Android works. Its here :

http://developer.android.com/guide/index.html

From there, you can buy or maybe download e-book for Android.

First of all, I would like to thank you guys for your support. For whom that possess a certain skill, for example in writing or coding, may drop their name and skills in the thread. Additional information like a list of your related knowledge is welcome. I will then register the information on the first post so you can be identified of your role. From there, we can discuss further on what should be done. Anyone who doesn't wish to be registered but can or want to provide guidance or advice is also welcome.

On how to start this discussion, we need to identify first what role will you play. This is to get a clear picture of the brainpower that we have. We cannot move forward without the necessary skills. There is no point having 10 coders and no graphic designer right?

Remember that this will take some time to actually create something that is working. We're only doing this for the passion an love of the platform. Some of us are working and some of us are studying so don't expect this to be a full time thing.

So in the mean time, you can suggest your idea on what you think that should be on Android. I'm sure you all use Android phone on daily basis. What software do you think that can improve the capacities of your Android phones. Be it a new kind of software, or an existing software with better features. Just post your ideas.

I do Android development since my third year. Now an intern in a company. I'd like a discussion on Android too. If let's say something almost similar to XDA application, it's workable. Research is needed.

Very good. So you know the structure of Android right?

This will be a serious project only when it develops into one. At the moment its just a hub for sharing ideas. Thanks for you interest though. Definitely will need a legal advisor if this project becomes official.

Excellent thread! Hats-off to d3m0n for initiating this. thumbup.gif

Just a quick note on the XDA-like app for Lowyat.net, while it is possible to code one for Android, bear in mind that such app would also require some coding to be done on the server entity (in this case, the IPB software). Tapatalk achieved this through plug-ins that are exclusively written for the types of message board software. Thus, if this XDA-like app is to be materialized, some consideration must be taken that at some point of the project, a PHP developer needs to be involved. I'm not suggesting that a PHP guru would need to be roped in as I'm sure some of the Android coders that replied to this thread would carry significant PHP knowledge. The point is that the XDA-like app is not all Java. It will have some PHP parts as well.

Thanks cleave for your support.

So what I understand from your reply is its completely a do-able app. We just need to inject a few PHP codes into it. Am I right? I know a lot of people will appreciate this app since it brings convenience to them.

I know you're a veteran Android user. So if its possible can you provide some insight or guidance?
