theres so many choices..if you want sense based roms,you can go for leedroid,auraxtsense,supervillain....non-sense roms like miui,cynogen...

It is a std sandisk 2G.... does it make a different if i change to a higher capacity 1? i use the advance task killer to stop all the background running apps but feel slow also.

Actually Desire is quite capable of handling processes itself without using task killers.

Higher capacity won't affect the speed, but higher class will.

You sure cannot tahan wan..I've been there before

Ya, Desire can handle the process running in background automatically.
Some reports say that using task killer on Desire will slow down the performance.

And no need to rush for flashing custom ROM bro, I was on standard android 2.1 for 2 months before, learned and explored enuf then only moved to custom ROM

no need to wait bro...flash custom rom...kenot tahan after 1month using standard rom...try kingmax 8gb class 10...satisfied with it...

supervillain is half sense and half vanilla

change SD card to higher class will supplement the performance of you desire, to make your desire more faster and smooth, you need to flash with custom rom, because stock sense is quiet heavy. you can try auraXTsense or other sense based ROM or if you want other than sense you can try MIUI, it's ultra fast and smooth than sense. or maybe u're interested with custom vanilla rom you can try cynogen, etc...
