Download the stock rom for HTC Desire from here to unroot your phone so that you can claim the warranty after that.
Is my warranty will void if i root? do i need to unroot if i need to send the HTC Service Center?
QUOTE(maliqu3)
Rooting your Desire won't void your warranty (you must have faith about the warranty though) since it's not NexusOne that will leave a trace (an unclasped lock) even if you have unrooted back.

To check the bootloader version, switch off the device. Turn it on whilst holding the ‘back’ key. You should be able to see the text ‘HBOOT’, and a version number besides it. This number is the bootloader version.

Where can I get these custom ROMs?
QUOTE(benny888)
Just go over to forum-xda. HTC Desire section http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=628 - rom discussion here. Roms are free - but you are encourage to donate if you can, to the rom cook. If you don't want to donate , you can still download and there is no limit how many times you can download. If you want special preconfigure roms up to your own choices - try Modaco at http://android.modaco.com/category/430/htc...ire-modaco-com/ . you need to pay a small contribution once only - with this you can use his online kitchen to bake any rom for any phone that he'd developed; again no limitation

the advantages you get by rooting FAR out weight the disadvantages,
seriously this is nothing compared to what you can do with a rooted device.

to quote one of the comment from the article,
"I think it's worth pointing out that even if your phone is not rooted and is stolen,
a tech-savvy thief would be able to root your phone and pull the data."

basically just be careful of what you are installing, and you should be safe.

Yup, quite true...
i tech-savvy thief will able to root the devices and pull out the data in the same way...
a non tech-savvy thief wont even know how to check all your secret password even the doc file is place in front of him...
just we have to be careful on the password, that's all...
that's why i wont have my password that involved money store or memorize in phone or computer,
a tech-savvy can easily crack the data out~~

AuranXSense has been quite quiet recently. I heard the rom chefs are discussing the possibility of porting over the new Sense from Desire HD. If the new Sense and the new features really work perfectly on the current Desire, we all will sure be rclxm9.gif laugh.gif the most importantly the pre-cached Google Map. thumbup.gif

guys, i'll be getting a 16gb card today. How do I transfer all my apps including the one inside my ext3 partition to the new card without reformatting everything?

i can think of this way:

-put new card in, format and create ext3
-put old card in, do a Titanium backup
-transfer all data in sd card to pc, then transfer from pc to new card
-put new card in
-goto recovery wipe everything, restore

any easier way? Im not on linux btw.

you should do Titanium backup and copy all the files from the old card to your computer first. Then only put in new card and do ext3. After that, boot up your phone, copy back all the files from computer back to phone. Then do Titanium restore.

I think this is roughly what I did when I upgrade my card.
