This rangefinder-esque cam packs a 12.3 megapixel APS-C sensor, and it's obviously designed to go mano-a-mano with Micro Four Thirds and the slew of other mirrorless / interchangeable lens compacts that are hitting the market. Aside from supporting 720p movies, boasting an EXR processor and shipping with a 23mm F2 Fujinon lens, this new handheld includes a Hybrid Viewfinder that enables users to toggle between optical and electronic viewfinders and display intricate shooting information right into the OVF.

There's also a 2.8-inch rear LCD, a hot shoe on top and a magnesium alloy top / base plate that might be the sexiest we've ever seen on a camera in this sector. Low-light shooters will appreciate the ISO range of 200 to 6400, and there's also 5fps continuous shooting, a full-on manual mode, SD / SDHC / SDXC card support and dimensions of 127- x 75- x 54mm. Something tells us a lot of to-be DSLR buyers will be shifting to this far more portable alternative when it drops in early 2011... provided it doesn't cost a small fortune, of course.

Seriously, once i put on the adptor and hood, no way i can put them back into the leather case, how are u guys deal with that?

How to carry around? just put in a bag?

I only use the hood when I know I'll be shooting something and the camera is not going to be in the bag. Otherwise I just leave the hood off and depend on the filter + adaptor for protection and stuff it into a small bag.

Fit nicely with adapter, filter and hood on. Prefer to use this as a belt pouch or as a casing to put in my bigger camera bag.

Ok. here’s my humble opinion in regards to your query.

I owed a Nikon system, so this (X100) camera to me is more like a second camera, a camera where you can carry around, hit the street, for a short non photography holiday without carrying all your gear.

I love street photography; it’s relaxing to hit the street alone and wandering around with the intention of capturing the best possible picture with the available subject. It basically free up your mind from all the issue / problems. X100, to me is one of those cameras that will add a little bit of retro ness into your photography.

Seriously, this camera look badass old schoollicious.

Now, on Nex, NEX a good camera, but it get upgrade too fast, and having a old Nex will not look as badass as X100,

Nex allow change of lens, which means, allow you to try diff diff length, its also cheaper with the Nex introductory kit compare with X100 (depending which NEX u’re talking about)

If you’re new to photography, maybe Nex is a better option compare to X100. X100 23mm lens, really limited on usage and for new shooter, its hard to get fun from it.

X100 is not recommended for beginner. X100 is already a very good camera when it comes to output because it can generate incredibly good color. It can nail the exposure and white balance correctly. However, it is haunted by many weakness and the most notorious is the focusing. It is very difficult to lock focus if either your or your subject is moving. However, X200 will be a killer if they are able to solve most of the problems. But then, your X100 will be worthless because none of the parts are reusable. The EVF, the Lens, all cannot be used in X200. You have to upgrade the whole things.

Nex 5N is a good camera, but camera is only half of a system. The other half is lenses. NEX has poor lens choice. and their lenses are very big. Also NEX has poor inventory management, it is not easy to get their lenses. Say 50mm f1.8, it has been release after many many month and yet not much people can get their hand on it, However, newbie is still better serve with Nex 5N + kit then X100 (I have both Nex 5N and X100, I have sold X100).

But what I really recommend is m43 system. And after playing with so many serious compacts camera, I am now sticking with Panasonic GX1. And I believe GX1 with the double kit lens (not the single pancake power zoom kit), is the best for beginners. You get 2 lenses, 1 zoom 1 pancake. The zoom let's you have the flexibility, it felt like Nex 5N with zoom. Or a lower end SLR with zoom. The pancake is very small and it make your camera very compact, pocketable, can bring everywhere and the view of 28mm is like most compact cameras. However, I don't own both lenses because I am more demanding and opted for even better lenses. But I think for a beginner, you will already be very well served with the kit lenses.

Canon G1X (dun confused with Panasonic GX1) has the same problem with X100. You cannot upgrade just the body. And it looks like a brick, weight like a brick.

OM-D? haha. Just hold it and see how it feels. 99% people like it. I am the 1% who don't like it. Remember there are many fan boys out there who always bragged about their next new toys. And also lots of bias reviews/blogs that meant to sell cameras and make commissions. These blogs/reviews love every camera out there so that they can sell as much as they can. OM-d has very very cramped buttons and thus poor ergonomics. The triangle ring for the strap on your right will cut your finger minutes after usage. The 2 rear button on the back are blocked partially by the LCD. And the EVF is in the middle and the dials less than 1cm away, so if you put your left eye on viewfinder, your finger to the dial is in front of your right eye? cramped. very cramped.

Fuji X Pro 1 is simply overprice. RM5k for a body. biggrin.gif

Kindly agreed with Samsung freak, except, I don’t agree with the part where x100 will be worthless when x200 out, it’s a good camera and its old school, so if x200 out, I will still buy and happily owed x100 and x200.

I mean 2nd hand resell value as compared to Nikon and Canon. A demand for D700 and 5d mark ii is very high even with a replacement model but not X100 especially when we can see a lot of potential improvement in X200. The price will be the same (Unlike drastically higher price of 5d2 and D800).

Of course this does not apply to anyone who don't plan to sell. And because X100 is more a special one-of-its-own-type of camera (cannot change lens but expensive), most people who consider them usually can afford a new one and so people looking at 2nd hand are very little. I try to sell one I know. Even a lot of people still buying X100, they buy new, that have to be do with their wallet and this special type of camera. biggrin.gif On the other hand, sellling a Canon 50mm 1.8 with RM50 off market price (RM300) could have attracted many many buyers.

haha.
