Introduction

DACport is a reference-quality, stereo 24-bit / 96kHz Digital to Analog Converter (DAC) that sounds so good that it reveals the subtlest detail in your music. Featuring CEntrance's proprietary AdaptiWaveâ„¢ 24-bit USB audio technology, JitterGuardâ„¢ clock management system, and an audiophile headphone amplifier, DACport redefines the portable USB DAC.

From: http://centrance.com/products/dacport/

While searching for a dac, I came across this article which makes me lusting after it:

So that's it, my review for the DACport. Keep in mind this is my own preferences and may differ from person to person plus I only compared it with my own laptop dac, some link below shows how people compare it with other DAC. The cons for this DAC are:

a) It gets warm after a while because of its Class A amp. Although not as hot as a kettle but you dont want to put it on your lap biggrin.gif (can use the belt utility if you want to make it portable which also looks like you are carrying a light saber biggrin.gif.)

b) The usb is quite long for me but maybe because this is not the default USB cable. May be useful for desktop user but not laptop user.

Another asynchronous usb dac with separate usb controller(own firmware) and DAC.Similiar to Ayre Acoustics QB9,which is more expensive. cry.gif

ya
lavry DA-11/DA-10 and benchmark DAC1 were both using the USB controller developed by centrance.
hence it can do plug and play without need of driver, yet supporting both window and macOS

Im not sure whether its my lappy or wat else but although it was supposed to be able to play without driver, I can only make it as the default dac for my laptop by installing the downloaded driver, or else has to do it manually.

"I couldn't completely dismantle the DACport, to identify the DAC and the other chips used, but I could see that the D/A and analog circuits are carried on a separate printed circuit board from the USB and supply circuitry, to reduce noise contamination. "

not sure if i understand u right hmm.gif do u mean:

a) when u plug it in, it will take over the windows volume? if it is then yes, after installing the driver, the volume get to max automatically although u can still use the slide in windows to control it.

b) when u plug it in, the volume slide bar become unusable? maybe its my laptop but no, you can still use the volume slide bar

a) would be my question, the volume is max although u are able to slide the volume up and down? Or it's controllable?

Since PCM270X can't do so, so i am quite interested to know more about tas1020b tongue.gif

yeah i oso think ppk more neutral.
but ppk is amp alone. while Centrance DACport is DAC + amp.
which if u pair ppk with notebook built in soundcard. it can't fight centrance DAC at all.

Yeah I think so too.. should be better then Ordance DAC-1 + PPK/Secret Amp. Since I am going neutral might as well have my portable and desktop similar. I find it hard to listen to my portable after Lavry DA11 combo lol... a lot of missing details.

it is indeed the most neutral pcs of DAC amp combo i ever heard.
imho it is better / similar to Pico range.
and the good part is, it don't have built in battery, it takes only USB power.
if that that into consideration, that DAC port is indeed the best in my mind.
but it has a little bit of mid coloration, and widen sound effect added to the sound.
and that's the part that it loss a bit to ppk in such sense.
however. it is still one of the best consider it's price, portability, convenient , and sound quality it offered. it indeed stand on it's own kind.

If you want the solution that offers you the least trouble, an external DAC/amp combo is probably what you want.
That'll let you control the volume externally, has everything in a single box, and removes any problems the internal card has like noise.

P.S. I really getting sick when listening with hiss + noise, especially some sensitive IEM (like Westone 3, IE8).

If you get it, then you need to brainwash of all DA11... don't even think of comparing it haha. I have both so I know.... haha. But if you are in for portable sake, this is one of the best one to get. I prefer this over pico dac/amp. Only downturn is it is only USB powered and one input and output, nothing more but I like simple plug & play so it does it job smile.gif

EDIT: Oooo.. didn't know DACport support iPad now smile.gif http://www.centrance.com/products/dacport/...with_ipad.shtml I shall wait for iPad 2 and see..

EDIT2: Anyone knows where to test/get Kimber Kable USB cable over here? http://www.kimber.com/products/interconnec...usb/minibus/cu/

Oh wow.. just tried the Centrance Universal Driver and have it on ASIO in Foobar. Got some sound improvement over native WASAPI. Will see the the latency remains true or not cause I tend to have dropouts on windows native drivers when on heavy external usb hard disk activity.

But with centrence driver, you have to manually set the bitrate now. Doesn't seems to auto-switch like native drivers. Well at least it is bit4bit now smile.gif

Hey guys have anyone of you auditioned the centrance dacport vs centrance dacmini and lavry da11 as a dac unit? Is there any noticeable improvement? I find that the centrance dacmini on headphone out is very strong competitor alright but haven't compare it with the lavry DA11 on headphone out and dac.

Lavry still wins a little compare to DACmini, but the price... is different.
Transparency and musicality still lose a bit, but what do u want more? for me it is just good enough.

Just wanted to know which is the ultimate dac among them with good musicality. The lavry DA11 balanced out is a plus factor.

Ya i know that's why i'm actually looking for basically the best dac that can be afforded. Something that do well with musicality and won't restrict the sound. So transparency, details, and all other benefit associated with dac is very important to me. I'm not really going to purchase now just only doing some survey to narrow down my target.

Good one. I find that centrance dacport already is a strong performer. So if the LX is better than dacport then you will definitely love it. But the problem is that I already have HIFIMAN HM602 as a dac and their performance compare to dacport is too close to justify the cost of spending that much on dac. So may dac must be able to far exceed the performance of hifiman.

akuma no hana & noobandroid, check out audio-gd range of DACs as well as Meier stageDAC as i find they are more musical than lavry but not as neutral.
as for centrance, DACport is a good portable solution if you like the amp. for DACmini, i feel that the stageDAC is a much stronger performer. not heard the DACport LX, so no comment.

Stole this badass during KLAV2013 from Jaben at RM599. Immediately add life to my 24/96 source downloaded from HDtracks. Also da bao my E7 in terms of clarity and clean presentation. Quite to my surprise, this cigar can drive my HD650 at moderate level. Though I lost some power from E7/E9 combo, I gained better sound presentation from the dacport, which is a more important factor to me especially listening to female vocal.

RM599 is truely no brainer, and a bold move from Jaben. :-)

hmm wanting to write a review however i'm a friggin lazy bum these days laugh.gif

well a quick summary is that sound stage, clarity and especially instrument separation has drastically improved. finally no double amping (since most mainstream sound cards has a bit of amping from it) would probably help a lot too. although playing most movies/videos would have volume a little lower, more often than not i'd have max out windows volume which was never the case on my old creative x-fi lol.

also, listening any music file under 320kbits (some of my very old songs lol) would be a bit problematic because the reveal all the compression flaws and some even exhibited signaling noise/further defects sweat.gif
still, small price to pay for a very wonderful DAC that i've been eyeing for many years (no kidding) which i never see justifiable to pull the trigger because i was constantly comparing to the free ASIO4ALL driver (or i'd personally call it software DAC lol) which overall offers "minimal" gains for the heavy price i'd have to pay. then again when it comes to audio, more often than not it's hard to judge a price on an equipment at any given time anyways especially the higher you go smile.gif

Guys need a bit of suggestion...
Would the DACport be good for gaming?
I've used the DACport before but never tried gaming with it.
So now planning to buy it again but for a totally different usage.
So need some feedbacks.
Thanks!

DACPort/DACPort LX are bad for gaming since no multi channel support.
and as you lack sound card enhancement/double amping (well regular DACPort has class a amp, however it's for music/stereo purposes, not exactly something you'd blast jibabooms with) , you lack that extra kick on bass/explosions.

so personally, neither.

other centrance product no idea since never experienced/auditioned.

not by much though, 50 usd less from official CEntrance, however jaben is mainly taking stock for the regular DACPort so the pricing is just about the same for the LX

Yea, however not much different, some prefer the extra class A amplifier.
