Your 4ft tank isn't gonna hold all of them as well... Any future plans besides the 4ft tank?

*
thanx TokiToki...future plan is to put them in either pond or fiber tank or maybe mini mega aqua(if got budget la..haha)
bout the dimension never come across yet..maybe need you to consult me in future...can aa?
i also think 4ft tank is not sufficient for them but temporary b4 move to my own house.
currently stay with inlaw so kind of x best to put bigger tank..huhu

QUOTE(PIMPIN @ Jan 19 2012, 06:33 PM)
yeob - no offence but you're way overstocked even if you added another three 4ft tanks.

Just for reference, I have four Gars, two Arapaima Gigas and two Red Tail Catfish. Their temporary home is 22'x15'x3' and this is what they eat every couple of weeks (ignore the 40 tag in the bag, they are packed 100 to a bag, the tag was leftover from old bags - takes over an hour to bag the feeder fishes):

That would be superbly fantastic! Haha  rclxms.gif
Anyways, need help. Seems that my spotted gar now spends most of its time on the tank floor. Changed water, I checked water conditions ok, its appetite also not affected. Just that its not that active as its used to. Feeding time ok la, he'll be out n about eating. But after that, he'll only lepak at the same spot. This happened a few days ago and im kinda worried.

He doesnt look lethargic or tired or stressed, just calmly lpak at the tank floor.  doh.gif

Is this going to be a problem? Anybody else experiencing the same thing?

P.S: Mine is a 4 feet tank with a Silver aro, RTC and an Oscar. Pic below:
*
well aimank_88..mine spotted gar also like urs..active on feeding time..
when the first time putting him in the tank..he was quite active upper swimmer..
few weeks after undergo my tank feeding schedule...he start to lepak on the floor..especially after feeding and few hours before feeding...
in my opinion..maybe he kind of hibernating to save his energy...hahaha
nothing wrong with it since he look healthy so far...
any other sifu can help us on this? icon_question.gif

nway going for CNY holiday for 4days...just asking ur opinion on feeding preparation.
what shud we do when there is nobody @home to feed them?put extra feeder fish b4 takoff?

*

Thx for sharing! Thats a relief. Hehe.

Yea, he looks like he's hibernating. Or maybe he's downright lazy or bored of the tank. Thats why earlier he was active! Haha

Btw, how about holiday food? tongue.gif
*
problem solve...(hopefully)hehehe
i put a divider in the tank...fill up around 100 feeder fish
then make a small hole on divider..just nice for feeder fish to pass thru..
after 10minutes..7 feeder has pass thru..best thing they can enter back into the cage..hehehe
hopefully this will work and supply enough for my monster..

holla boys, ( hope im in the right thread)

interested to keep peacock bass in a large metal tank and its about 350 gallons plus

do i still need to install adequate filtration and water pumps?
*
holla Einjahr..peacock bass need good water oxygenation since they like to swim at middle n bottom of the tank.
u also need good filtration to cycle the water and keep them clean from all type of waste including bad bacteria.
hope this will help.good luck. smile.gif

Uh its gone after i changed the water, didnt take any pics before changing tho.  blush.gif

The mucus looks like saliva, or perhaps frog slime? Haha. Sort of like that la. Has it got to do with ammonia concentration? Just asking tho

Thanks Yeobster!

kinda makes me wonder how they adapt so well to our unused ponds and lakes, i assume they are a hardy species as tilapia... but thanks for the insight.
*
Most welcome! our ponds and lakes are different thing..their ecosystem totally different from our thank..haha
the challenge is to build our tank as perfect as their ecosystem..
i also thought that peacock are hardy as tilapia..at first i put 2 peacock in a basic top-filter tank..few hours later they are taking breath at the surface just like tilapia..tomoro morning 1 of them RIP! immediately instal the air pump and he survive and healthy till now.. rclxms.gif

Yup, lots of nice 'weekend getaways' in Janda Baik especially past few years which has led to skyrocketing prices - last we heard about RM600k per acre which was offered to us by one of the local residents. Even Hulu Langat where we maintain another house is also going up in price hovering about RM400k per acre depending on where exactly it is. I've got four ponds there, multi storied but water comes from the Ampang (?) water reservoir some 4-5 kms through the jungle via PVC pipes.
*
cool bro..how to do piping straight from the river? do we need some kind of permission or authority?

Semalam dah mms Jason, he said 100% not pirahna but pacu.
Now that LFS salah label fish..how to trust that LFS to import fish ler?
*
coz pacu and piranha got almost the same shape..
maybe they labelled as piranha to attract people(aka trying to cheat people who are not familiar with this)..
my practice is to go back home and do some research bout fish they sell..
once confirm then only buy the fish..
yesterday noticed alligator gar in the spotted gar tank at my lfs(they mix together)
but the label is "Spotted Gar:RM15"..so i do some research on juvenile ally gar and its confirm..
this morning went there and buy 2xally gar..best thing is she give RM12 for 1 pc. she said the fish that i pick got less spot and short snout(kind of x-cantik for them)..and i just pay and lol in the car..hahaha

yup..hahaha advanced fish keeper should know about rules n regulation in bringing piranha into m'sia..
dont easily be cheated by them.
