They accept slice meat too. Or small fish as well. I feed them with some mealworms too. If catching feeder is a problem for them, maybe u have to increase the amount of feeder u give for every meal. When the number is more, chances of them catchin the prey will increase:)

thanx bro..now they have other prob..attacked by alli gar..have to move them to other tank.. sad.gif

wow! nandus nandus nandos! nyum nyum! hahaha hey is that your african aro?
well IMO fkhton is referring to scleropages leichardti(spotted baramundi)that come from eastern side of Australia. i never seen any LFS in kl selling this guy. most of them keeping scleropages jardini(northen pearl baramundi) a.k.a pearl arowana. and of course they are from northen side of Aussie. but bare in mind as this pearl arowana can also have some kind of spotted thing on their body as they grow up. each of their scales will have red or pink spots at edge of the scales and this will give a spotted pearly looks to them.

Added on March 22, 2012, 3:16 amim currently trained all my gars to eat pellet. i give them hikari jumbo carnistick. 3 of them are doing well but this 1 guy refuse to take it. he prefer to be starving and attack other small tankmates. 2 blue mahseer and 1 green terror are now in hospital after their body 'koyak rabak'! any idea what shud i do with this guy? is there any other ways to train him? icon_question.gif

Yeah, that Arapaima belongs to me as do all the fishes in that 7ft tank actually. Just waiting for it to grow bigger before moving it. Saved from Nilufar which had a pair in a 1.5ft tank however its 'twin' was already stunted and did not make it and I lost that one about 2 weeks or so after getting them from Nilufar.
*
owh really?well sorry for the twin..but his partner looks great dude.
that Boulengerochromis microlepis is also yours? man im envy that fish..hahaha heard that guy already sold is that true?

This is africa arowana. If spotted arowana can't find in LFS, I might try this africa arowana. Did anybody here keep this before? Is it hard to keep? I understand that it may have problem with the food because it eat through filter in the mouth.
*
i used to hv 2 afro but 1 of them was served as dinner for my mala wolf.huhu got them since they r still babies. 2" size. well keeping afro ks not that hard. u needto know(i believe u already know) that this guy is a filter feeder kind of fish(same goes to paddlefish.) they fed on plankton or any small creatures found in your tank. as my afro fed on frozen bloodworms as hes still baby. as they grow, u can train them to accept chopped market prawn or fish or pellet. but must vary your feeding with bloodworm as this guy is a filter feeder till death! hahaha nice fish to keep anyway. good luck to you.

Nope that is not mine. Its an African arowana. If you want, i have the source. But it's a small juv one though...and feeding wise, i heard my frens are feeding it tomato..

Haha sorry my bad, i thought he meant this aro. Well if it's the pearl aro frm the eastern side....i think you have to place special order for it. Although the price is not expensive...but not many...or maybe in very very rare occasion our LFS might have it. Even African aro is hard to get.

That's good news. My spotted gar is still refusing to feed on pellets....while my alligator gar feeds on anything he sees...lol
Hmmm... an aggressive gar, you can try to separate them with a glass panel. Allowing visual contact only, and remove the panel one per month. Observe if they fight...if no then ok...if yes then repeat. Means he is not hungry enough...haha
*
how did ur frenz feed afro with tomato?does it will cloud the water?haha nice info would like to try it!

agreed that its hard to get it..do you have any contact for Aussie exporter?

well good idea! i was thinking to put him in a jail tank...hahahaha hes very aggresive..FYI ur adopted oscar was bitten once by this guy but now fully recover. hes now fed on feeder fish, hikari chichlid staple and jumbo carnistick.hehehe

Added on March 23, 2012, 2:55 amnway nice pickup for your 6bar AT. where do u get it? how much?

That cichlid has been gone for couple weeks. Really gave every other fish in the tank a hard time Arapaima included. Even the sturgeons were hassled endlessly. Now only Arapaima and several tigers left. I go over most nights to feed them often late if I'm free and they'll go through perhaps 50-70 feeders or so each time if not yet fed during the day.

Anyway, what did you mean the guy sold? Sold what?
*
owh..haha excuse my english..that guy i mean ur nice chichlid...

Added on March 23, 2012, 9:00 pmsharing my 6footer..got this tank from 1 guy for free since he wanted to clear his house.he gave me the tank, sump, piping and stand. the condition of the tank 5/10..got some scratches on display tank(previously it was a marine tank so maybe the owner want to clear all the dirt and salt on the tank with a sharp material or maybe sand paper. look at the pic below and you know the condition.

Can spotted arowana place special order? Which LFS have this services?
*
sure can but you will spend big cash for shipping itself. at the end its not worth the money unless you play in quantity and sell it back to LFS. most LFS didnt import but get their LS from supplier. they let their supplier do all import export. for your case u need to find a dedicated aussie importer and deal with em. which LFS,well i dont know. maybe can google for that.

*
is it Xia Leng Shah Alam? i dont think they will export, few small LFS in Klang Valley get their stock from XiaLeng too..so go check your nearest LFS...hahaha maybe Alive Jalan Pasar...

Yea its a WC AT. Its located at a sub urban area near kuching. I was on a trip back to visit my grandpa. When this native caught a fish, and i asked him to release the fish for me instead of becoming his dinner...lol    Omg tat's one aggressive gar....i just mix my alligator gar into my 6 footer. Hope he will mix well with the other fishes.
*
well i hope your gar do well...IMO it shud be no problem since your fish in there big enough for gar to swallow..or else will have to sent him to Janda Baik(bro PIMPIN) for detention class. hahahaha im sure our gar will learn their lesson there when mix with REAL MONSTER! hahaha lol

so when is your next trip to Kuching?will you plz spare 2 or 3 ATs for me?hehehe thanx in advance..damnit AT for dinner...haha lol

Yes, it is Xia Leng Shah Alam, is it really small LFS get stock from them? Which one do you know? I went to Jalan Pasar and a few LFS hunting for it, not a single one can seen. They have plenty stock 2-3 weeks ago, I dont think a LFS can take all, it might be all die??? or some one take all, is it a hot fish?
*
well hard to say...coz this type of fish they will not keep too many in 1 shop..this is due to some reason such as market segmentation, pricing, dead, and so on. have you ask people at xia leng what happened to the fish?..coz hard to say which LFS has keep them..have to hunt for it..

True but less are bred nowadays due to their " slow " growth - Breeders nowadays breeding hybrid grouper more Below are hots candidate for cage farming !!
- Giant grouper @ Bumblebee grouper @ Epinephelus lanceolatus X Humpback grouper @ Chromileptes altivelis
X Tiger Grouper @ Epinephelus fuscoguttatus

- Tiger Grouper @ Epinephelus fuscoguttatus X  Humpback grouper (Chromileptes altivelis)

The Giant X Tiger one quite nice , am trying to " freshwater" some for fun Just started 2 wks ago

Next week or two getting some Humpback X Tiger for my cages but some I will hold back to " freshwater " them !!

So check back often to see some salt water fish in a freshwater tank - wonder what should I mix in to convince others they are indeed in fresh water tank !! Arapaima , arowana or Tapah or motor ray ???

Cheers

Yea they are not cheap. But do take note that LFS do stock different grades of fei feng too. Get those grade B to A. Look at the contrast of the tail. It should be clear separation of orange and black.
*
what if they are still small...does the tail will already have a good separation of orange n black?
