I have flip cover hard case but I'm afraid it would scratch the chrome when I frequently remove it. I do prefer these flip cover hard case if it doesn't scratch.

The capdase soft jacket idea sounds good. Have you got the product information?

You cannot create a file larger than (2^32)-1 bytes (this is one byte less than 4 GB) on a FAT32 partition.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314463

How did you just happened to put a 8GB single file into SGS? Hmm, KIES must have been buggy to let that happen.

ebay is a good source. I wanted a case similar to those Case Mate Barely There cases but wasn't prepared to fork up the USD20 or so. I got one off ebay for USD3.00 inclusive of screen protector. Arrived within a week, free shipping somemore.

Got link? $3 sounds good. How's the shipping cost?

Not suprising as the reviewer had review and experienced many phones. As per my initial 2 days with the Galaxy S, I reported here in this thread my experience saying the Galaxy S is the most laggy and slow response phone I have used compared to Nexus and HTC HD2 ( Froyo).

The lagginess and not so smooth scrolling in the Galaxy S is very very obvious once you compare it to the other 2 phones I have used. However after install OCLF, it is very much better. Programs launched close to immediate and scrolling has improved but it still loses out to file access speed compared to the Nexus and HD2 ( Froyo) which is almost instant
*
Maybe I came from laggy phones background, such as Nokia 6680, Dopod 838 Pro, HTC Touch Diamond; I am used to wait for a second or two when scrolling on the HTC Sense, several seconds when launching a program. Samsung Galaxy S has minor hiccups sometimes, but I find it as the fastest smoothest phone I ever owned. Menu transitions are butter smooth, apps opening almost instantaneous. I am most impressed with the Internet browser. I used to wait up to 10 seconds to zoom in on my HTC Touch Diamond, but now, it's like magic, pinch and zoom without any delay! I'm a happy man biggrin.gif

hi, i am a new user of sgs. I got a question to ask .

why did my screen flicker when i plug in into a PC.

how do i get the kies work nicely?
*
Screen may flicker once when it's busy. I guess it's normal. I have 1 flicker everytime I am done entering my PIN code but not with USB connection.

Just download the KIES, install it, and use it. It isn't as problematic as described in forums for my case. It just works wonderfully, although I don't use it except to check for firmware updates.

Hi guys..My media player seems cant read Chinese & Japanese characters...all in boxes & symbols...any solutions?? fonts replacing?
*
I am going to tell you from my experience again. The chinese character simply just works in Music Player. As long as my Windows can read, the phone can read.

Hi fellow Galaxian.

Have any of you experienced problem with the 3G video calls? I get broken video image whenever I make 3G calls, while the other party able to see mine just fine.

Is it time to reformat the device? Just got it for < 1 month.

Oh ya, I guess I'm the lucky few that don't have A-GPS locking problem. smile.gif
*
I did video call on the SGS to Nokia 6680. It works fine. As usual, plenty of pixelation and some lag.

If you couldn't view the other parties's video, make sure the other phone is working properly with video enabled in the call.

QUOTE(Harddisk @ Sep 27 2010, 02:46 PM)
Mine can't read those Chinese characters as well.

Is yours stock? Not sure if it has anything to do with the FW version. sad.gif
*
Mine is stock. I am very satisfied with the JG4 firmware that it came with. I don't feel like changing to Froyo either. No reasons to do it yet.

How broken is broken? Totally dark? Not sure about your phones, on Nokia 6680, I have to manually turn on the video after accepting video call.

I have the same firmware as yours.

The video shown on my SGS is broken, like if a video file is broken when you play it on PC, the picture was in banding of horizontal rows. Difficult to explain without a picture, but I can't screencap/record it either.

Just imagine it's like trying to play a broken mpeg4 video file on PC. Quite similar to that. But the voice was ok though, just video broken.

Aside from that, do you get pretty weak reception during calls? Most of the time, the other party was difficult to hear me either. I could blame this on reception, but if I'd to compare to my older phones, it seems to be appearing on this new phone.

Another thing would be the rather weak Wifi signal, at least as compared to HTC Desire. Not sure how many having the same problems like mine.  blush.gif
*
Weak reception - sometimes but not too bad. Just don't use your palm to cover the lower bulge of the phone. That hump is GSM/WCDMA antenna.

Wifi signal is indeed weak but I find it similar to HTC Diamond. It loses out to netbook/laptop a lot. The wifi antenna is near the back camera. Again, like Steva Jobs say, hold it right. laugh.gif

Btw, if you happen to be somewhere in Puchong, come look for me. Then you can compare the phone and make video call as much as you like. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(jujx @ Sep 27 2010, 04:27 PM)
have you test the front facing camera without video calling, from Camera you can choose self shot, see whether the front camera is working or not
*
I suppose the problem is not the SGS's camera. The issue is with the video that he receives from other phones.

PMed. Either that or we have a SGS user gathering. biggrin.gif Gather at least once before the device becomes obsolete.

I think for those who have already rooted and is using Market Access app, the local SIM card can be overwritten (not emulate) to T-mobile operator identification.

I just started exploring what's inside the box. Used the bundled earphone for the first time. Surprisingly, it sounds decent.

Are there no extra buds for people with different ear size?

SGS vs iPhone 4. SGS wins in almost every aspect from the reviewer's perspective.

QUOTE(kaisers @ Sep 29 2010, 03:08 PM)
hi all,

i'm a 3 weeks owner of SGS and thinking of doing lag fix. upon trying to go into recovery mode, i just found my phone is one among the many unit worldwide that cannot get into recovery mode.

i know there are various method on the net e.g via adb recovery, but just to ask whether any of you here experience the same as me.

has it been discussed here before? sorry didn't go through all post in this forum, so many post  already cry.gif !!

anybody can advice me on how is the other easiest method to perform recovery? my firmware is DXJG4, is this the latest?

i fear that unable to go into recovery mode, if anything happen in the future (firmware crash, corrupt etc2) i can't recover my phone back.
*
Has been discussed. You're not the only one.

Someone in this forum reported success by flashing Canadian SPL. Several in XDA-developers reported success to flash SPL onto Singtel units, except for 1 that failed. I haven't tried, it's too risky and I'd rather wait for fix pushed through our KIES.

Since you do not have 3 button recovery mode, you can still use recovery mode through ADB and app called "quickboot" (requires root). But these methods will not work when your device no longer boot.

Since there will be no permanent fix without taking the risk to flash SPL, I decided that I shall get it repaired by Samsung if it ever fails. Probably I will just let it be this way.

For my phone, I don't have problem getting my initial position but navigation is near unusable. It will shoot off every corner, drift to nearby roads 80% of the time.

I just use it to read the maps and drive according to my memory.

Compared to my HTC Diamond in the aspect of GPS, it's garbage. Nevertheless, I'm still living well with its flaws.
