A newly opened hawker stall in the Queensbay area (outside shoplots behind Eastin Hotel) caused a stir in the national press recently ( Going Bananas Over Nasi Lemak ) as they were using guys in gorilla costumes giving away free bananas outside their stall to generate publicity.

The stall is called Mama Lissa's Nasi Lemak Tradisi & I tried the food there & it is both fantastic taste & great value.

Their nasi lemak is different to any I try in Penang & their menu is expanding according to their Facebook Page

Definitely worth including on 1st page under Nasi Lemak

Got a few places to add to the OP

Dim Sum: Zhong Hua in 1stop Midlands park.

Lok Lok: Gurney Drive, it's definitely better than the one in Pulau Tikus wet market.

Roti Canai: Kassim Mustafa on Chulia Street, the big one near the Bomba.

Assam Laksa Air Itam
Lunch Time!

This is the place. No special notice board to indicate this place. So just locate where is the wet market and you can easily find him.

This is where all the ingredients and the true recipe came from. They are using Sardine fish to boil this gravy with long hours.

Look at their noodles. Like a mountain high! Amazingly they can finished them in one lunch.

Ta da~~~ Assam Laksa @RM3.00
Outlook: 4/5
Creativity: 5/5
Taste: 5/5
Price: 4/5
Overall: 4/5 - Indeed the best Assam Laksa. The noodles are so tender and delicious. The gravy is full with Sardine meat. You will definitely finished off all of it and left nothing in the bowl. They were selling at RM2.00 per bowl and now they are selling at RM3.00 per bowl. The bowl is not that big so you will not hesitate to order another bowl.

Ambiance: 2/5
Service: 3/5
Food Serving Speed: Very Fast
Will I Revisit?: Yes

eat asam laksa at this shop few year ago. dont like the shrimp paste as i like it sour. put shrimp paste will make the soup sweet and some more
high in cholestrol. dont what the price now.
one thing i dont like is the place it open. just opposite the morning market. you can smell a lot of fishy and roting vege. might put some people off but hey if good food we still go there.

Maybe this has been mentioned before but i cant help to recommend it again ....

Sg Nibong Cafe
-Koay Tiao Theng .

I start to love this Koay Tiao Theng when i start to work in pg early yr 2000 , that time it was sold at rm2.10 per bowl. It has the most nicest soup ,very hard to describe. drool.gif the mince meat is wow ...really sedap and the koay tiao is very nice soft not like some other which is hard.

The uncle is a very nice person and i can see most of the patron there will order this Koay Tiao Theng . Usually i will ask my colleague to go there . Any of my friend that comes to penang i will recommend this or bring them there myself biggrin.gif .

Though i dun work in pg anymore but when have chance i would fly back and the main attraction is this still this super sedap food. notworthy.gif .

I think now the uncle pass it to her daughter , sometimes still can see him there helping. Highly recommended thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Due to laziness to save pic from the net , i here by attach a link from other food lovers . thumbup.gif

That assam laksa at Ayer Hitam market degraded liao. Not as nice as decade ago. I can find even better than Ayer hitam laksa in Puchong, Selangor (Inside Puteri Mart van seller haha- also originally from Penang and just migrated to Puchong last year haha together wth the whole van!)

My father is still staying in Penang and he says Penangites nowadays don't really patronise the Air Itam's market 'assam laksa'. They drive further away to Balik Pulau's market and have the 'assam laksa' there. Funny huh! hmm.gif I wonder why good 'asssam laksa' is always beside the market? If you are in Balik Pulau's market, the same stall sells also Siamese laksa and it's also good. icon_rolleyes.gif
