OK. I'm currently 17, which is form 5. And I'm planning to get into LimKokWing University this Sept, for ID (Interior Design). Is the university good? Like environment, teachers, management, fees, place etc. Tell me about it! Your likes and dislikes. THANK YOU! <3

Yes, don't limit yourself to only a single college or uni. I would suggest you do more research on other colleges or unis out there.

1) Because I'm not studying in government school, and not following government syllables, but American syllables. So after I finish all my grades, and I'll be able to college after that. smile.gif

2) Yes, I actually heard about negative things about it before. But not that much, so I'm not that sure. sad.gif But I asked one of my friends who is studying there, and she told me "It's the best school ever." So I'm getting very confuse. LMAO.

and about the environment, I heard it's alot of Africans! LOL.

And besides LKW, I search for other colleges before like PJ Art. But I heard it's not as good as LKW. Yes, I'm confused once again. AHHH.

BTW, any colleges related to art can recommend?

I don't really get it why " too much foreigners" is considered as a negative thing ?

I guess it's because of too many Africans, which I heard from my friend.

Well, The One Academy has interior design course as well. Not too sure how good it is though.

Another art school would be Dasein, but I'm not too sure if they have ID or not.

haha..im a lkw student but i quit after my first semester..

first of all, when im in f5 last year, i did consider between The One Academy and LKW..after some personal factors, i choose LKW. another thing i choose lkw is because i love the environment..like it wont be very crowded, the whole university structure is big,etc..plus its a globalised uni..

im going to major in creative multimedia and after 1semester i quit..what i don like there is there're too many africans na foreigners..U need to ask urself, are u ready to accept this? Personally im ok with it just that its quite hard to communicate with them..Mix with them nothing wrong..But not everyone having the same mind. Some might think its ok to mix with them and communicate with them..But some might scared to see so many africans or what..When u avoid making friends with those foreigners, u will be quite lonely there..eventually ur college life wil be quite boring and lonely..Another thing i don like is the lectuer. Mayb the lecturers i had are not good enough..but NOT every lecturers are not good..some are good as well..it depends..plus in uni, u cant really rely on lecturers..need to depend on urself..but i always think that TOA is more serious in teaching.. smile.gif
in LKW, class starts at 9..and sometimes u can go back at 12 plus..2 or 3hours class..i don think its enough..

again, somehow i think lkw is famous of its name mayb? like its an international uni..there're around 9k students there..but almost 80% are stuyding NON-DESIGN courses like IT,business etc. The foreigners come here to study that. and whenever u come out from class, u can see lots of foreigners are smoking/walking around the campus.

and where are u staying? hostel? cyberjaya is quite a boring city..thats why i stay at my bro house @ ara damansara and everyday drive 35mins to school and back to school..and pay rm6.40 toll..

so after sem1, i decided to move to TOA..

conclusion IMHO, advantages of LKW is the uni is globalised, cheaper, nice environtment..
advantages of TOA is the teaching, many local students, and located at the city..

disadvantages of LKW - teaching not serious enough, many foreigners, boring city,
disadvantages of TOA - the college is in shoplots

Alright, here is some advise.

I was a lecturer before in a college and i have seen and heard more then my own ears can take. From a personal stand point there is no such thing as the perfect college or UNI in here. Most of what you will learn is controled by the ministry of education. From there the college head will control what you will learn aswell, most of the time the lecturer will not have his way when it comes to teaching students. When i teach 2D animation to students in college, i am require to teach them the whole thing in just 6 months while also letting the student juggle other subjects. Which is impossible for a student to grasp and be professional at if they keep being bombarded with other distractions.

Please be aware that a diploma doesn't give you an dvantage when it comes to applying for jobs. Most of what you need to learn will be self taught and not delivered by the college.

Here is a quaote from the head of the college i use to teach:

" We can't teach the students everything, if they want to be good at something then they should go and look it up"

" We can't pay you for doing extra classes, why don't you spend more time with the students. The other lecturers are also doing it"

" Don't set your standard too high, try to teach them the basics only"

" Can you change the method of teaching, i know this has been set as the foundation and basis of teaching but we need something to show"

When i said i wasn't going to teach for free and change my teaching method to suit the colege i was replaced. They didn't care if the student learn anything, they just want some finish student works to show off to investors. Even if it means the lecturer have to do the work for the students as well. shocking.gif

If you want a good college to study in, go to canada or france if you can afford it. If you have no choice pick your choice of college and go with it.

Sorry, but i can't disclose this college name. wink.gif

I agree with most of your points! Haha. And plus, africans' accent are very very difficult to hear. Because I experienced it before, so. And I agree CyberJaya is way too far. But I think people will still go there because of its environment. Its most prominent advantage is just the ENVIRONMENT. *sigh* But I think TOA is more on multimedia? Have you heard of MIA before? But I don't think I can afford going straight to overseas.. But I can still afford twinning programme? smile.gif

Dasein? My friend's sister is studying there. But I don't think it's that good? Because I went into their website before, and it's so ugly and untidy. If they can't make their own website more neatly and nice. I can't really trust them on their method of teaching.. Maybe my statement it's not true, but this is what I can guess la. Lol.

Go to visit whatever university or college you have in your mind and choose it yourself. I believe you could make your own decision.

Good or bad lecturer , it depends on the student itself. I choose LKW over SeGi and I have not regret even for a bit.

If I were to ask based on the opinions of you guys (maybe you guys have experienced it),

Which design college or university would you recommend has the best teaching methods, quality guidance, up-to-date curriculum & constant exposure to outside activities, events in Digital Animation?

it's not necessary when u go to lkw you have to mix with those africans?
well i'm in my 3rd sem in lkw now and i have friends from malaysia, indonesia n korea.
they are friendly smile.gif you can choose NOT to befriend with those africans or whatsoever if you think you cant understand what they're talking about..

btw i'm only friends with my classmates and i dont think its a prob at all..
unless u want to have like half of the campus students to be ur friends.. 5k?? crazy..

overall i think lkw is quite ok. their lecs may not be the best but you still learn at the end of the day.
and you explore a lot.. lkw is really flexible.

what i mean is..for example, when u are in design course, u can see the number of africans in design course..its LESS..mayb 10% or even less than that..My friends who study communication, her class have lots of africans..

i gotta agree with u that lkw is flexible..the life there is quite relaxing compared to TOA which have soo many strict rules and u have to obey them..if not... hmm.gif

TOA has interior design courses. and yes eric leong is teaching. =D
eric will just pop out from no where in college.
my friends in ID has less classes on short sems. maybe like 2 classes a week?
depending on you.
the next intake for TOA DEGREE PROGRAMME might have interior design choice. MIGHT. from what i hear.

MIA. hrmm wad i hear from my art teacher. it was once the best art school in malaysia.
The ID dept is also considered ok.
