OK. I'm currently 17, which is form 5. And I'm planning to get into LimKokWing University this Sept, for ID (Interior Design). Is the university good? Like environment, teachers, management, fees, place etc. Tell me about it! Your likes and dislikes. THANK YOU! <3

1. how u managed to go into lkw while u still in f5? u wanna use ur trial exam result?

2. why lkw? u really nvr heard abt all those negative things abt lkw?

environment:
inside the campus, not good at all, too much foreigners, outside campus, lagi teruk, its in the middle of nowhere......

teachers:
only pay more attention to those son/daughter of dato datin vip...

management:
they make it very commercial, i mean VERY......

fees:
if ur parents got money printer at home, then should be ok......

but anyway, later sure got ppl come flame me, say me tok kok or whatever, so i suggest u go there and see see look look for urself......
*
1) Because I'm not studying in government school, and not following government syllables, but American syllables. So after I finish all my grades, and I'll be able to college after that. smile.gif

2) Yes, I actually heard about negative things about it before. But not that much, so I'm not that sure. sad.gif But I asked one of my friends who is studying there, and she told me "It's the best school ever." So I'm getting very confuse. LMAO.

and about the environment, I heard it's alot of Africans! LOL.

And besides LKW, I search for other colleges before like PJ Art. But I heard it's not as good as LKW. Yes, I'm confused once again. AHHH.

BTW, any colleges related to art can recommend?

Yes, don't limit yourself to only a single college or uni. I would suggest you do more research on other colleges or unis out there.
*
I researched on PJ Art as well, but I heard it's not as good as LKW. That's why. x.X And besides that, do you have any other colleges related to art can recommend? smile.gif

I don't really get it why " too much foreigners" is considered as a negative thing ?
*
I guess it's because of too many Africans, which I heard from my friend.

haha..im a lkw student but i quit after my first semester..

first of all, when im in f5 last year, i did consider between The One Academy and LKW..after some personal factors, i choose LKW. another thing i choose lkw is because i love the environment..like it wont be very crowded, the whole university structure is big,etc..plus its a globalised uni..

im going to major in creative multimedia and after 1semester i quit..what i don like there is there're too many africans na foreigners..U need to ask urself, are u ready to accept this? Personally im ok with it just that its quite hard to communicate with them..Mix with them nothing wrong..But not everyone having the same mind. Some might think its ok to mix with them and communicate with them..But some might scared to see so many africans or what..When u avoid making friends with those foreigners, u will be quite lonely there..eventually ur college life wil be quite boring and lonely..Another thing i don like is the lectuer. Mayb the lecturers i had are not good enough..but NOT every lecturers are not good..some are good as well..it depends..plus in uni, u cant really rely on lecturers..need to depend on urself..but i always think that TOA is more serious in teaching.. smile.gif
in LKW, class starts at 9..and sometimes u can go back at 12 plus..2 or 3hours class..i don think its enough..

again, somehow i think lkw is famous of its name mayb? like its an international uni..there're around 9k students there..but almost 80% are stuyding NON-DESIGN courses like IT,business etc. The foreigners come here to study that. and whenever u come out from class, u can see lots of foreigners are smoking/walking around the campus.

and where are u staying? hostel? cyberjaya is quite a boring city..thats why i stay at my bro house @ ara damansara and everyday drive 35mins to school and back to school..and pay rm6.40 toll..

so after sem1, i decided to move to TOA..

conclusion IMHO, advantages of LKW is the uni is globalised, cheaper, nice environtment..
advantages of TOA is the teaching, many local students, and located at the city..

disadvantages of LKW - teaching not serious enough, many foreigners, boring city,
disadvantages of TOA - the college is in shoplots
smile.gif agree..
BEST SCHOOL EVER? in term of? ask her! did she really learn very MUCH?

Seriously, if u wan a college that REALLYYYYYYY into art/design, TOA is your choice mayb..
*
I agree with most of your points! Haha. And plus, africans' accent are very very difficult to hear. Because I experienced it before, so. And I agree CyberJaya is way too far. But I think people will still go there because of its environment. Its most prominent advantage is just the ENVIRONMENT. *sigh* But I think TOA is more on multimedia? Have you heard of MIA before? I heard there's interior design there too! blink.gif

Alright, here is some advise.

I was a lecturer before in a college and i have seen and heard more then my own ears can take. From a personal stand point there is no such thing as the perfect college or UNI in here. Most of what you will learn is controled by the ministry of education. From there the college head will control what you will learn aswell, most of the time the lecturer will not have his way when it comes to teaching students. When i teach 2D animation to students in college, i am require to teach them the whole thing in just 6 months while also letting the student juggle other subjects. Which is impossible for a student to grasp and be professional at if they keep being bombarded with other distractions.

Please be aware that a diploma doesn't give you an dvantage when it comes to applying for jobs. Most of what you need to learn will be self taught and not delivered by the college.

Here is a quaote from the head of the college i use to teach:

" We can't teach the students everything, if they want to be good at something then they should go and look it up"

" We can't pay you for doing extra classes, why don't you spend more time with the students. The other lecturers are also doing it"

" Don't set your standard too high, try to teach them the basics only"

" Can you change the method of teaching, i know this has been set as the foundation and basis of teaching but we need something to show"

When i said i wasn't going to teach for free and change my teaching method to suit the colege i was replaced. They didn't care if the student learn anything, they just want some finish student works to show off to investors. Even if it means the lecturer have to do the work for the students as well. shocking.gif

If you want a good college to study in, go to canada or france if you can afford it. If you have no choice pick your choice of college and go with it.

Sorry, but i can't disclose this college name. wink.gif
*
Yes, of course I know there's no such thing as perfect college or Uni. smile.gif I'm just looking for a BETTER college, so that's why I'm looking for advise from you people here biggrin.gif Thanks so much for your advise anyway! But I don't think I can afford going straight to overseas.. But I can still afford twinning programme? smile.gif

Well, The One Academy has interior design course as well. Not too sure how good it is though.

Another art school would be Dasein, but I'm not too sure if they have ID or not.
*
Dasein? My friend's sister is studying there. But I don't think it's that good? Because I went into their website before, and it's so ugly and untidy. If they can't make their own website more neatly and nice. I can't really trust them on their method of teaching.. Maybe my statement it's not true, but this is what I can guess la. Lol.

it's not necessary when u go to lkw you have to mix with those africans?
well i'm in my 3rd sem in lkw now and i have friends from malaysia, indonesia n korea.
they are friendly smile.gif you can choose NOT to befriend with those africans or whatsoever if you think you cant understand what they're talking about..

btw i'm only friends with my classmates and i dont think its a prob at all..
unless u want to have like half of the campus students to be ur friends.. 5k?? crazy..

overall i think lkw is quite ok. their lecs may not be the best but you still learn at the end of the day.
and you explore a lot.. lkw is really flexible.
*
but where do you stay? the only thing I don't like is the location of it is in the middle of no where. A very boring, and far city. What course do you take in lkw?

what i mean is..for example, when u are in design course, u can see the number of africans in design course..its LESS..mayb 10% or even less than that..My friends who study communication, her class have lots of africans..

i gotta agree with u that lkw is flexible..the life there is quite relaxing compared to TOA which have soo many strict rules and u have to obey them..if not... hmm.gif
*
Hmm. But I heard TOA for ID has 3 years for Diploma, and no Degree. While, lkw got 1 year foundation and 2 years Degree. yawn.gif

TOA has interior design courses. and yes eric leong is teaching. =D
eric will just pop out from no where in college.
my friends in ID has less classes on short sems. maybe like 2 classes a week?
depending on you.
the next intake for TOA DEGREE PROGRAMME might have interior design choice. MIGHT. from what i hear.

MIA. hrmm wad i hear from my art teacher. it was once the best art school in malaysia.
The ID dept is also considered ok.
*
Owh.. but now TOA has only Diploma right? The good thing there is Eric Leong is there. Hmm.

if u r listening to what a TOA students said,it might be quite unfair..he/she might dunno whast the advantages/disadvantages of both college..

but im a student of lkw and why i quit..i sure have my own reasons right? haha..

ok well i think TOA is really a serious school..quite strict too..
today the principal of TOA, Tatsun Hoi just gave us a talk..i truly agree wat he said..we join TOA just for one reason, WE WAN TO LEARN..as simple as that.

so if u r a person who are  looking for freedom, relax lifestyle, feel free to choose any colleges u wan..but not TOA..if not it gotta make a hell of ur life..however, if you are a person who wish to achive what u r aiming all this while, learn things u dunno, willing to suffer for now, TOA is the right place..so it really depends.but don even 4get, u r spending ur parents money now..choose the life u wan...=)

btw, i think ID is much more interesting under the guidance of eric leong..he's quite active and he not just teach u bla bla bla..he said he more focus on practical, thats why he organised lots of exhibitions, competitions etc which i don think lkw will do.
*
I just visited LKW today! And I think it's really a nice place.. more like a university life, as it's in a campus. The only thing I don't like about TOA is it's in shoplot. Making me feel like I'm going for tuition and not much like a Uni or College. sad.gif But after I read what you commented. Myself want to LEARN, not to just relaxing. How many months have you been in LKW? And why did you quit? Because it's not strict enough?

LOL! YES! the environment there is awesome! the campus look cool right? thats what i think also..

but like what i said last time..depends on urself actually..i dunno what kind of person are u..as for me, last time my class got around 20+ students..and there're only around 5/6 locals..and among the locals, only 1 local guy..means whole class 2 local guys..its not that i don like to mix with foreigners, but sometimes its quite hard to communicate, and u will find that the place is not belong to u..

last time i told my toa lecturers that im a lkw student previously and she said if u wanna to be in lkw, u must be very "COOL"! haha..well i don really know how she define COOL..=)

as for TOA,its shoplots but now i think its nice lo..its not that boring like lkw..u gotta trust me..lets not talk about whether the assignments will make me hate TOA next time onot..haha.

but the veryyyy first reason is when i start my studies in lkw, i totally got a thinking that "this place is not belong to me, i just come here study thats all".. but at TOA is diff..when im there, everything is just so friendly and nice..thats what i think la..

Hmm,well..tell u something..IF u wan to learn, TOA is the right place.why? even the lecturers in LKW ask us not to further our studies there..unbelivable right? its true..but i wont reveal out the lecturer's name..when i proceed the school leaving procedure, the lecturer ask me what happen..i told him im quitting..he ask me why and where im going..i said "TOA"..and he replied "good la..there's good"..
*
HUH? The lecturer themself saying leaving is good? LOL. Omg, unbelievable. Are they even serious in teaching? -.- And now I really dont know which to choose already la.. cry.gif Or maybe when the lecturer say "good" maybe is in sarcastic manner? Hahaha. Wth. I dont know. -.- And somemore lkw is so damn farr, pay toll also pay until pk! But my friend say lkw you get to speak english with foreigner and not only mix with the local people speaking chinese only. Lol. That's the thing lor. Environment awesome, cool and big campus that's all. HAIZ. Well, I changed my mind only going in next year. So I still got plenty of time to think which college I should go. rclxms.gif But after heard what you say.. I might choose TOA then. But anyway, which course did you take? ID also? Or other design courses?

i drive to lkw everyday for 40minutes..

toll rm6.40 a day..plus petrol about rm5 a day..one day rm11.40..and if u come late, no parking u have to park at the car park opposite..rm1..

now i park at sunway at most one day rm3..save rm10 a day.
*
Yeah!! If I'm going LKW I'll be driving too. Petrol + toll really can die. My mum say if I'm really going LKW need to change to gas dy, like all the taxi do. LOL. But nevermind, after quite alot of comments I decided to go to TOA. biggrin.gif rclxms.gif
