rumors state that steamroller will be exclusive to the APUs only..

Anyway, AMD-users, any guesses on the expected price for AMD's high-end, FX-8350? Since AMD Malaysia still retails FX-8150 around RM800+, I will just buy them from NewEgg when they have discount..

Edited:

More Steamroller Rumors

If AMD Malaysia does read Low Yat forums, try to get rid of BullDozer asap from your inventory.

My guess for AMD Malaysia's marketing plan:

Marking up price for Pile Driver and then significantly lower down the price of Bulldozer although US citizens already enjoyed said discounts.

If Pile Driver is proven better, AMD Malaysia will definitely have a reason to sell Pile Driver high-end chips for RM900 ~ 1000.

Piledriver might be the last AMD CPU for consumer as the current trend is moving towards APU. Steamroller CPU might be reserved for the server segment only.

Warning: AMD Malaysia will definitely stick to their *competitive pricing starategy since their APUs have a better iGPU than Intel's solution. Hopefully Intel's Haswell can push Malaysia's price to match US pricing.

Meanwhile, FM2 boards might be obsolute faster than FM1 if Steamroller's build is vastly different than Bull-Dozer.

Llano chips are based on Phenom-II mobile arch and Pile Driver are Bulldozer-enchanced arch. I am sensing a FM3 board in late 2013, perhaps? I changed my mind, I will just stick to FM3 that is if AMD is stiill operating since they happily skipped off FM1 and FM2 boards.

Any counter-statements?

Edit: Socket change is good for every 2+ years but a yearly change points to unholy product price depreciation (yup, looking at you, Llano-chips).

last time AMD does have an edge over budget motherboard and 4x DIMM in m-atx. but now, not so much as H61 hitting lower cost segment, Pentium G are just fine, but not graphics.

if FM2 and FM3 things, this is like AM2, AM2+ and AM3 all over again,

would like to see if AMD can bring in dual socket for consumer or not

Hi amd sifus, I have question to ask

AMD Socket AM3+ Processor ( Phenom Series )
AMD Phenom II X4 AM3 Z955 Black Edition RM375

this is what I saw from garage sales thread. Im planning to upgrade from athlon IIx2 to phenom II x4 955be but now I got confused by the "z" and also the socket type. this 1 is am3 or am3+ because my mobo is old 1, msi 770-c45 only support am3.

another question is, do I need to update bios to the latest for this processor to work?

this is what I found on msi website

Phenom II X4 Deneb HDX955FBK4DGI x955 200 3.20 2M 6M C2 125 7599v13.zip
Phenom II X4 Deneb HDX955FBK4DGM x955 200 3.20 2M 6M C3 125 7599v14.zip
Phenom II X4 Deneb HDX955WFK4DGM x955 200 3.20 2M 6M C3 95 7599v16.zip
Phenom II X4 Deneb HDX960WFK4DGM x960 200 3.30 2M 6M C3 95 7599v1E.zip
Phenom II X4 Deneb HDZ955FBK4DGI z955 200 3.20 2M 6M C2 125 7599v10.zip
Phenom II X4 Deneb HDZ955FBK4DGM z955 200 3.20 2M 6M C3 125 7599v14.zip

my current bios is 1.3

thanks in advance smile.gif

New AM3+ Mobo

Hopefully this is not the last mobo from Asus for AMD's CPUs..

AMD price list.

I predict AMD Malaysia price guides will be RM600 for A10-5800k, any other guesses?

BLT Corporations is accepting pre-orders for Trinity APUs, also accepting purchase in bulk and they ship overseas but the problem is the payment method.

No matter what, I am sure to get the FX 8350 to make full use of my AM3+ board. Albeit slower than Intel, it should keep my system up to date without splashing additonal money for a new board.

AMD here myself ...
lol, prepare to get burned by intel fans here ....
FX is slower thats why its cheaper ... fair enough ~

according to here, your sense is not true. Trinity successor still plan in FM2 socket, in late of Q2 2013.

So anyone here planning to get FM2 board, no worries. still last for at least 2 gen or will not obsolete faster than FM1. somehow, anything could changes in last minute; hopes fudzilla sources are true.

I guess A10-5800K around RM500 or below. AMD sure know if set too over from this price range might make it harder to compete with Intel.

Current & Future APU:
==================
2011 June - Llano - Socket FM1 - 32nm Fab
2012 Oct - Trinity - Socket FM2 - 32nm Fab
2013 Q2 - 3rd Gen - Socket FM2 - 28nm Fab

I already skip 1st Gen APU, Llano; and waiting for Trinity. Motherboard vendor are all ready just waiting for AMD. Below are the list of mb for those interested on FM2 platform as reference:

A75:
=======
ASRock FM2A75 Pro4
BioStar A75MH2
ECS A75F2-M2
ZOTAC A75-iTX WiFi

A85:
=======
AsRock FM2A85 Pro4
Asus F2A85-M
BioStar Hi-Fi A85X
BioStar Hi-Fi A85S
ECS A85F2-A
Foxconn A85AP
Gigabyte F2A85X-UP4
MSI A85XA-G64
MSI A85MA-E35

After Trinity release, my plan is:
1. A10-5800K
2. Asus F2A85-M
3. 4GBx2 1600 DDR3 (1866 will be great to match discrete for dual graphics if price drop)
4. 7000 series of discrete card
Any comments?

1 year later, if 3rd Gen APU is worth to get. will upgrade processor (and discrete card to 8000 series too if possible) I will not skip Trinity and keep waiting for next gen, it'll only end up or stuck in infinity waiting loop forever. My expectation is, FM2 motherboard at least last me for 2 years, I'm already satisfied. (so FM1 failed)

2013 Q2, 3rd Gen APU will be interesting as AMD plan to contain an ARM as part of TrustZone IP, HSA (Heterogeneous System Architecture). By 2014, will be Full HSA capabilities.

more details about HSA at official link

@ wiki, Richland uses PileDriver core and it is a budget segment processor (Llano A4 successor and its a 32nm processor). - Sorry, its not an up-to-date source.
@ Fudzilla, Richland is an 28nm APU which have a PileDriver Core but uses the Radeon 8000 series graphic core.
There will be a new graphics core for FM2 socket APUs and it shows that FM2 supports 28nm APUs.

@djlah,
I should wait for Richland or go for any A-10 APUs that AMD Malaysia sells? The new graphic cores seems good but it will be 2013 until it is launched.

On an unrelated topic,
If I already have a Llano-APU (A6-3650), will there be any obvious improvement if i switch to A-10 PileDriver cores?

A6-3650 to A10-5700 or A10-5800K is a significant upgrade

Now i feel stupid for jumping into Llano APUs just this year but my last processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo (since 2009 ) so its still okay.

Pentium 3 --> Pentium 4 --> Core 2 Duo --> A6-3650

Come on AMD Malaysia, prepare me an

A10-5800k + Any Asus Mobo + 1600 4GHz x 2 DDR3

I already have an Radeon HD7700. Gimme a matching rig.

@soulfly,

you meant the cpu side or the gpu side of AMD's APU which has significant difference?

Can somebody change the title to "AMD Piledriver & Trinity"? tongue.gif

Added on September 5, 2012, 8:55 pmBy the way, how you guys think of Piledriver? Good? How do you think it will compete in the world ?some reviews and benchmarks say the FX-8350 is beating 1st Gen i7 using the engineering sample of it. what about when available for consumers ?

or simply change to

AMD: APUs & CPUs

Edited: Beating a Nephalm I-7 will definitely boost back AMD's reputation. However, AMD might stick to APUs and server market for now.

Money >> No.1 CPU maker

Superior APUs might steal Intel's laptop customer (mostly gamers). I might buy an Opteron based CPUs when it becomes affordable and has acceptable power consumption.

Imagine owning an 16-core CPU... brows.gif
