QUOTE(BuFung @ Sep 6 2010, 12:51 AM) Of course it's format dependant, if ur hardware have that particular codec that build for that format, it save much processing power of ur cpu while using software codec.... Normally hardware codec r only build for the format which is mainstream in the market.... Don't expect it play wmv in fullHD of course... Theres more to it... I think they tinker with more than codec alone... I have to research more into it. Thats why I want to bring the pendrive and test with N8. I have 720P RMVB from TVBNOW and it was totally unplayable. Converted to both format supported by the phone acceleration, MPEG4 (XVID) and H264 but also laggy and audio gone missing after a while. I noticed that bitrate maybe too high... 4000~6000++. Im loweing it to 2400 and retest... Anyway, found an old article about HTC crippling its MSM72xx line video playback... maybe thats why... This post has been edited by andrekua: Sep 6 2010, 01:48 AM

Actually its not surprising that they chosen these local reviewer/blog to attend the program instead of end-user. I was kinda surprised that they would choose us over them given what Nokia want is probably publicity and definitely not end-user communication which they want to portray with Rangers program.
Besides, my main intention is to get a free N8 nia... not really interested in the phone or S3.. hahahaha.. just wait and see...

QUOTE(pirateguy @ Sep 7 2010, 12:46 PM) Maybe you won't get any after such statement. QUOTE(cloud8318 @ Sep 7 2010, 01:25 PM) even there still a ranger program...i'm really shame to attend after "andrekua" statement.... Hahaha... Honestly lor, you guys not interested in getting one free? I dont really see whats the big deal with S3... you are looking forward to it now??? Added on September 7, 2010, 1:59 pmQUOTE(nicholasbeh @ Sep 7 2010, 12:57 PM) @Andrekua ranger program stop? What do you think anyway? I dont see any logic inviting a couple of guys from LYN and then conduct the ranger program. Nokia really want to reach a couple of guys or they want some 'POSITIVE' reviews from bloggers/reviewers?? Which makes more sense? This post has been edited by andrekua: Sep 7 2010, 01:59 PM

QUOTE(BBXiong @ Sep 7 2010, 02:02 PM) The whole point of the event is to find someone that is interested in nokia devices and symbian, so that they can hear their feedback, and also help gather some other feedback from end users...if everyone is going for the sake of the free N8, what's the point for nokia to held the ranger program in the first place? honestly, i am thrilled of the free N8, but at the same time, i am also interested in what's new in S3, how far it can go, and what's Nokia's future planning to fight back in the smart phone market. I think I have already given my feedback on Symbian. Where are those who bash me for my dissing on Symbian being shit... This post has been edited by andrekua: Sep 7 2010, 04:20 PM

QUOTE(BuFung @ Sep 7 2010, 04:55 PM) Honestly, its been quite a long time since I last read tech news day in day out. But Im pretty sure for handphone, its still the basic ROM, RAM and STORAGE. Im not sure how N900 get this swap, most probably via external NAND or just partition a part of the internal 32GB. However, no matter how you do it, it still sucks la. Otherwise why would MS push for cheaper RAM to boost our Windows experience. I think give Maemo to anyone, SE or Samsung, I think result will be 2x of what Nokia can achieve. The thing with Nokia is that, Symbian appear to be too big to crumble. Given the potential of Maemo, its not surprising they are holding it back to make it look less bad for Symbian.

QUOTE(BBXiong @ Sep 7 2010, 05:10 PM) from what i know, Maemo is based on a Debian linux distro, so it's not surprising that it would have a virtual memory which is found on pc OS. Virtual memory normally uses part of your storage, in this case, part of the 32GB memory. Yeah, ram would be better, but nokia likes to cut cost mah...why put 512MB ram when they can have 256ram + 768MB virtual memory to do the work, virtual memory is an OS feature nia, no additional cost de. Virtual memory is not often used also, and phone apps don take up that much memory that it would use up 256MB with just one single app running i guess. I don think maemo will do better in the hands of SE..last i recall their UIQ was rather crappy..maybe samsung... I agree on you on the potential of maemo, but if you notice, the way nokia market it, N900 is more like hardcore phone user's gear..they support on heavy modding and even give you instructions to do that. Majority people(like most uncle aunty out there) just one something easy to use mah, and nokia normally targets them lo UIQ3 is hampered by poor memory management while at the same time, it too has limited amount of physical memory. SE transform Symbian OS9.1 into something we seen in 5800XM. I did mentioned the similar UI with M600i compared to 5800XM. Four shortcut and 3 touch buttons at the bottom. When was M600i released? If only SE choose the better hardware... Added on September 7, 2010, 5:18 pmQUOTE(Leo the Lion @ Sep 7 2010, 05:15 PM) Being ignorance not gonna help, andrekua. QUOTE(sklchan @ Sep 7 2010, 05:19 PM) those wont add cost as it's the feature for those hardware chips, these features all only meant for marketing purpose nia... like the Texas Instrument already came out a single chip solution the Wilink 7.0 which have all BT/Wifi/GPS/FM build in but nobody using it now why?? do u really think the chip will cost a lots compare to using multiple chips like what been practice now? Er, issit really single chip? More like Apple A4 la, they try to shrink them enough to fit all of the chip into one silicon, like X2,X4 or X6.

Even as big as a projector ppl are demanding wireless.. wireless... Fast Wireless + video decoding = power hungry... hong long your battery gonna last? I tried wifi teethering with 5800XM, fully charged also last less than 1hr.
