QUOTE(cnwh @ Aug 12 2014, 11:44 AM) Hi all, I have a lot of questions to asked even after reading the previous post I'm still not clear on many things.. Hope that those who have experience can reply to my questions.. Thanks! 1. Is it better to open an HSBC acc in Msia or bring a huge bank draft for all my expenses and bank in to my newly opened UK acc? 2. Which airline company should I choose?(I hear Emirates is the best with large loads and flexibility with handheld bags) 3. Is it better to buy flight ticket by self or through tour company? 4. Will winter this year have sNow? Should I buy the winter clothes here or better to buy in UK? 5. What type of mobile network is best to use there (with mobile data or payper use calls n smses)? No need to open with HSBC here. A lot of hassle dealing with them. Bring your bankdraft over and placed into your bank account there. Open the bank account where majority of students does so that you won't go wrong. Emirates is fine with 40kg and quite flexible with overweight and hand carry. Very lenient for students. Check for the duration of stopover in Dubai. Longer stopover, cheaper fare. Winter clothes much cheaper to buy there. Winter not so soon!

QUOTE(tianqi @ Aug 14 2014, 08:50 AM) How big is your luggage? Mine is 28''. The rice cooker just fit in nicely. You roll your clothes to save packing space. Does it really make the difference? Yeah. The rice cooker can fit into the luggage.

Depends on which college/university you are in and food and accommodation per month about 700 pounds per month outside London.

QUOTE(codenameIV @ Aug 27 2014, 04:52 AM) Hi guys, just asking if anyone going to UK pursuing their first degree under MARA this September? I've been trying really hard to secure financial aids from MARA but received inconsistent feedbacks. As I heard some received the loan/scholarship from MARA to further their studies in UK for first degree. Kinda curious and mind to share? Thanks. I know someone who has got a loan to study medic in UK last year. Well, you do need some cable when dealing with the gomen. If not, pray for a lot of luck; just in case they have some unused funds!

QUOTE(Oh_shit @ Sep 30 2014, 06:23 PM) hmm, thanks mate. btw, is there any bank here partner with banks in malaysia? which can make transfer money with lower commission fees (exclude the exchange rate) ? If you doing thru Maybank by direct transfer, they charge RM25 for each transaction and the receiving bank (Lloyds) charge 12 pounds. If you transfer above a certain sum, the local bank can give you a discounted rate from the listed exchange rate.

QUOTE(limeuu @ Oct 2 2014, 04:36 PM) there is no such thing as a 'direct transfer'..... the original 'electronic' funds transfer was the telegraphic transfer (hence the name tt), or wire transfer in america... subsequently, several means of electronic funds transfers are created, called different names in different countries (eg meps in msia)....an international system being the swift.... in addition, with online banking nowadays, it can be done via your secured internet banking as well... in msia, bank to bank transfers are via giro for domestic transactions, and tt internationally, .....and if to person, systems like western union or moneygram... Go bank and ask fastest way AND costs. If need to, got cheaper way or not?

QUOTE(Flame Haze @ Dec 27 2014, 01:21 AM) Pros of LSE: Networking Reputation Pros of Bath: More friendly community More campus life Their A&F course ranks number 1 in UK Cheaper cost of living I don't drink much lol. The decision should be pretty easy eh? Maybe things will be easier if I get rejected by LSE. Deep down I want to go to Bath/Warwick but everyone says LSE so yeah.....maybe i'll convince myself by saying it'll help my future prospects I'm sponsored by JPA, but the thing is, JPA doesn't let us study at Bath (stupid thing considering Bath's rank). Only filled in Bath coz JPA only had 4 choices (LSE, Warwick, Manchester, Edinburgh). Share your experience, if you don't mind? For A & F, preferred choice will be LSE and next Warwick. If you plan to work in bolehland, take LSE.

QUOTE(OTRoad @ Dec 29 2014, 01:02 PM) I don't know if it's the right place to ask here but let's say someone pursues Accounting & Finance under a scholarship (say BNM/ Khazanah). When he graduates, what will he be working as to pay off his bond? Thanks. You will be working as an officer in one of the departments and serve your bond period. Thinking of paying off the bond? Not so easy nowadays. Not only the amount spent on you but penalty and other damages.

QUOTE(cpteoh @ Mar 24 2015, 07:50 AM) How many Malaysian normally in a university? it is great to be able to further studies oversea If there are too many Malaysians, it will be more like homeground and not likely to gain more exposure. Mixing mostly with Malaysian will be just like studying in bolehland.

Anyone of you could give me some advice? btw i'm just a post-SPM kid hahah Since your parents want you to go UK, I am sure they have enough financial resources to take care of your studies or they may expect you to do some work over the weekends or during the holiday season to make some contribution.

QUOTE(sky@1013 @ Apr 27 2015, 01:20 PM) hey, can I book my flight ticket to UK before I apply my UK student visa? Wll there be any trouble if I book earlier? If you are buying a 2 way ticket, then you can go on holiday if visa rejected. If one way ticket, susah lah. Normally, if offer is firmed up, not likely to get visa rejected.

QUOTE(limeuu @ Jul 1 2015, 10:27 AM) the work description and remuneration of a gp in the nhs is rather complex, your relative in glasgow should be able to explain more... generally, there is little income difference between gp and consultants in the nhs...but under the nhs gp capitation budget management system, your income depends on more than just working....how sick your list is, makes more impact.... That's what she told me. I googled and yeah, the income depends on more than just working. Anyway still many years to go. The many Sgs in her cohort is influencing her that UK is not the place to be as nearly all the Sgs are heading home after graduation. Even now, most of them prefer to do their electives in Sg. But most of those from IMU intends to stay on despite being on JPA. What a difference between those from bolehland and sg!
