Its in idle clock, right ?
*
Yea, idle clock.

I might need to make some sort custom fan or something to suck out the air at the vent. The concentrated hot air at the vent, plus a room with no air circulation, it causing the temps to go up.

If i let a fan blow at the vent, the temps quickly drop to 55C on idle.

QUOTE(julchin_09 @ Dec 11 2010, 05:50 AM)
Maybe you need a repaste? My temps for my 5870 have risen as well since my last paste in early June. Have to repaste mine as I feel temps for idle and load have gone up 5 degrees C. sweat.gif
*
Maybe, considering about it.

Is it hard to do?

Also, do you know where to get those air cans, as some people at NBR blow compressed air into their G73 to remove some dust. Temps drops a lot too.

Well if your conditions there are dusty, and your vents are clogged up then yes you can hope to see a drop in temps after blowing those vents clean. A thermal paste re-paste would be more time consuming as you will carefull have to remove the GPU card from the heatsink and use a Thermal Paste remover to remove the old paste and then a Thermal paste purifier to clean both the surfaces of the GPU chip and that of the heatsink before applying new paste. You can look for Artic clean Thermal paste remover and purifier which comes in a set of 2 bottles. To say whether its easier will be an problem as you are using an Asus and me an Alienware so I can't gauge if its easier for you than for me.

My max idle used to be around 50c and max gaming on Metro 2033 or BFBC2 would be around 75c in a room without the air conditioning on. I aid it with a modified Cooler Master U3 which helps save some current would be spent on the Air Con. I think we both need to find some time to service our notebooks....  icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks, i think i might need to have a maintenance soon. Really need some bravery to do so, as G73 is very hard to disassemble. No way im gonna brick my 6k laptop.

My idle now is 55C, with a table fan blowing at it, if not, it' about 58C.

BC2 can drive it up to 78C to 90C, depending on conditions.

AW no doubt have better cooling than G73.

Well your idle seems acceptable. If you're in Malaysia then we just have to accept we can't compare temps with those overseas. For me if on load and its around the high 70s to mid 80s I won't panic. But if it can hit 90c then to me the alarm bells start ringing. I was running my lappie withe the GTX 260M as high as 92-93 even and that was when I decided something had to be done. Good luck with the disassembly. Hope you get it back to cooler readings. You don't use a cooler pad? The air intake is in the front for the G73? hmm.gif
*
Idle is acceptable, IMO. Just that when it's on load, it is a bit high some times.

I do agree it's a bit hard to compare, as my conditions are quite different from Malaysia.

I dont have cooler pad, though.

Added on December 12, 2010, 4:45 pmG73SW is announced, using Sandy Bridge, i7-2630QM, basically a i7-920 with no overclocking. Everything else, the same as G73JW.

Looks sweet.

Didnt expect it to come out so fast.

Well, whatever la.

I got mine already, and i would miss out some fun gaming sessions if i wait for it.

Playing BC2, L4D2, BO with friends is priceless. Except for the poor Macbook that is in front of my vents.

Agree.  nod.gif I don't think that it will be coming out so fast. I guess it will only be released as soon as February or even later.  laugh.gif

Well, as long as mine can play games on max setting without going over 95C on both GPU and CPU, im satisfied.

is it something wrong? i dont wanna end up with fried laptop  sweat.gif

You need to repaste or send to Asus to fix it. Normal G73 should be below 60C.

Just asking , how long have you used your laptop? When did you get your laptop?

I'll post up the links when I get home la.

Mine is 64-65 degree celsius. Ambient temp = 16 degree celsius.  Normal?  hmm.gif

To be honest, no. It's not normal. 16C should give like 53C or less.

Added on December 26, 2010, 3:10 pmLet me add this. I don't mean to scare you, jeff.

The temperature that you are getting is pretty subjective. It's a bit abnormal to me, but by Asus definition, if it doesn't shut down on max load, it's fine.

Also, I think the cause of your problem could be dust clogging up your heat sink. Maybe try cleaning it first before thinking about repasting.

Here are the 3 main threads on repasting.

This a rough video on the disassembly of your G73.

What i'll do if i were you, go through the BTO video. Then, ask around, like NBR forums on how to repaste properly. Then, take it nice and slow on taking apart your G73.

If you are really uncomfortable of doing it, i think, you have to RMA it.

how long it will take if i take it to Asus at imbi? coz i just had the gc temp overheat...my proc is still good temps.

i will ask 1st and if it take long time i guess i have to repaste it myself...btw is warranty void if i disassemble it?
*
I think you have to ask them, and make sure they know what are they doing.

Well, if you take apart your laptop, and didnt actually ruined anything, how would they know you disassemble it. It's a pretty gray area.

eh btw cheesenium, ur temp 50+ idle is when u charging or not? becoz i just tested with charge on, my idle temp is 72c went up to 98c when gaming and when not charging idle temp is 60c and max load at 78c - 80c when gaming. hurmmm...but i think still its a bit high...so repaste it is  sad.gif
*
Wait, do you mean did i put the battery on the laptop?

My battery is always full, and pretty much used as a backup power supply. Always attached to the laptop.

I think i can look into the effects of having the battery on or not.

I always put the charger on, as playing with it , i think the battery will drain very fast.

@doubleU,

No, it's not convenient at all.

It's far and located on a road that have traffic congestion daily.
