wait till you get to the early 80s then your fan will really kick in, it's slightly distracting if your temps are constantly shifting between 79-81C because that's the threshold for higher fan speed, a second you hear the fan spins hard, the other second it quiets down, and another second it revs back up again.

I'm on traditional HDD and it stays relatively quiet, even when im defrag.
*
Im using newer vBIOS now, so im not sure how is the temp tables.

Added on October 26, 2010, 7:51 pm hi if u compare the asus g73jw with the alienware m17x which do u pick?
*
Depends on your specs.

If your budget is around 6k, G73JW gets my vote. If your budget is sufficient for a full spec AW, i say go get AW. Nothing beats a Crossfire or SLi with a top of the range i7.

Anyway, update on my mysterious Momentus XT, ran a chkdsk on it. Windows says volume is clean. Could consider case closed and it's time to have some fun on this baby.

unless you really want the bling bling lights that alienware has... but imo, the G73 has a better design... you can look up putochip if you want to get the alienware cheaper... i think now he doing M15x for 4.8K MYR.... so wait until he got the M17x instock

price dropped by 20USD on the G53jw =\
*
The bling bling lights is nice man. laugh.gif

G series's stealth fighter looks is even better.

QUOTE(riku2replica @ Oct 27 2010, 05:19 AM)
As Far as i can say is, Asus ROG is only Comparable to AW M15x. G73 is deadly, silent killer towards M15x if u ask me... but there's no league in ROG line could defeat AW M17x. That's for sure. nod.gif
*
I would say G73 is more like the cheaper version of a 17 inch gaming laptop. M17x is only worth buying if you can max out the specs, provided you have the budget.

G73 is more like budget single GPU laptop. They rarely do dual GPU configuration like Clevo/Sager/Alienware.
*
I wont say G73 is a budget high end laptop. It's cheaper but it's still quite decent.

Comparing to car industry, G73 is like a Lamborghini, while AW is like Ferrari. Both are good, just offer different looks and specs.

Clevo, Sager are the car industry's equivalent independent small exotic manufacturer like Pagani Or Koenigsegg.

I'm just glad that Asus is serious about their gaming line while keeping the price reasonable smile.gif It's what the XPS from Dell should have been.
*
True, XPS have dropped to the point of just a multimedia laptop. A far cry from the days of M1330, M1530 and M1730.

Hmm ok, i might extend mine if i can get 3 years international warranty. This laptop will still be able to play games 3 years later.

why is it that g53 and g73 size so less difference ? There are almost impossible to tell the difference if u put them 1 meter away from each other ^^
*
Well, both are rather large gaming laptops.

Also, the larger they are, the better cooling, as they could squeeze more copper inside.

Just kidding!  laugh.gif I plan to do so too in 2-3 years and this time I might change my direction to MacBook Pro.  smile.gif
*
Why MBP? Unless you are stopping gaming entirely.

I'll probably go Lattitude or Vostro if i stop gaming. I still need a decent GC and cooling for some rendering. Plus a decent processor for finite element or other analysis. Top of the range GC or CPU arent really needed in this case, but durability and reliability will be the main concern.

I think my days of gaming are numbered now. sweat.gif Didnt play games for about 2 weeks plus, and i have only played 1 hour plus of BFBC2 on my G73 so far. And looking at spinning furry donuts.

I'm kinda fall in love with vid. editing software in Mac as one of my hobby is vid. editing.  laugh.gif Besides that, I seldom play games too as the numbers of playing games are decreasing significantly recently.  doh.gif
*
lol, why did you get G73 then? If you dont game so much. Or you are too busy to game too?

Same, feels like i just wasted 7k for nothing. doh.gif

well, since if i change laptop, it'll be a non-gaming laptop (multimedia) so.. M11x... you double post alot hor xD

M11x isnt really worth getting though, IMO.

Too small, and not powerful enough.

Don't feel like that.  biggrin.gif You made me feel that I spent my money for nothing too.  biggrin.gif At least, I still use it for vid. editing purpose.
*
Ahaha, nah, it does feels good in a way that, im using my own hard earned money for this laptop that will pretty much beat almost every single laptop out there. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Hopefully i have time to play games on it after exams.

The keyboard is comfortable, so, great for assignments! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif AutoCAD will be smooth as butter. FEA will be uber fast now.

Well, if you want normal usage, AW isnt really suitable, IMO. It does look great, though.

LOL, CAD work for G73 is like peanuts. It's like trying to use a 20 tonne hammer to crack a nut. laugh.gif

No time to play these days. I think i have only touched the GPU issues, by updating vBIOS, and Catalyst 10.10. Other stuff like bloatware clearing, make new windows 7 list and shift my 20 Steam games over to G73 havent even started yet. I dont even know will the gaming performance is stable or not.

I still got Napoleon Total War, Bad Company 2 and Starcraft 2 sitting on the shelf collecting dust. BC2 and Napoleon are still sealed till now. Dont think i want to get MoH and Civ 5 now.

lol sell me ur bad company 2 xD i want to get some online gaming done on that..... waiting for steam winter sales..... (but duno if can wait that long)
*
LOL, i still want to play the game. Just not as much, and it will be hard for me to sell my copy to you as im not in Malaysia.

QUOTE(riku2replica @ Oct 27 2010, 10:52 PM)
U sure CAD is working like charm with HD5870m with the GSOD fixed vbios? I read somebody was experiencing shuttering in Maya3D/Cad with HD5870m.

Just wanna confirm it, coz i'll be doing blender 3D when i get G73 sometime soon.
*
It should be ok, as i tried Bad Company 2 on it and it was smooth. The sensitivity is a bit low, though, compared to TF2.

If BC2 works, i think the relatively less demanding CAD should work too.

I need to do a proper test on it, like a SC2 or BC2 marathon on it after exams. Might need to RMA it if there are any problems.

Also, if you upgrade your vBIOS, the GSOD problems should be gone, as the vBIOS is stable now. The first thing that Chasisty asked me to do is to update my vBIOS when i got it. He was one of the beta testers for the new vBIOS.

Yeap, im in Sydney.

Which city are you going?

Since you are heading there, i would want to recommend you an online store, ozgameshop.com. Thats where i got my BFBC2 for about RM85, original. The only down side is, it will takes up to 2 weeks to reach you. It's cheaper than Malaysia, and the retail australian games are overpriced to the point that Malaysian pricing looks cheap.

Yeah, if there is a Steam offer, get it on Steam sales. Probably around RM50.
