probably minor process hiccup. it happens sometime.

Well, i did everything i can.

BIOS is updated out of the box. Updated video drivers. vBIOS should be updated too, as im using latest BIOS.

Everything should be ok, so it could be some obscure bug in the BIOS or something. Dont know, but i'll trouble shoot more after exams.

well, planning to ask my bro to help me buy some 2nd hand bluray movies from UK, they can go as low at 3 pounds (usually 5 pounds) imo its a very good price for original.

Thinking of adding a 2nd 500GB hard drive instead of changing the first one to a momentus XT. What do you think?

cause i can afford around 100 USD of upgrade only, so its either bluray + 500GB vs momentus XT only.
*
Go for Momentus XT.

Im loving those 2 i have now. laugh.gif

Windows boots under 1 minute. Games like BFBC2 launch under seconds. Could be just because of the fast processor and Win 7.

Give me one week, and i could let you know how good is Momentus XT as it takes about 1 week to save all the essential files in the SSD.

eh, I thought booting Windows under 1 minute is normal now? laugh.gif

Dont know, but never felt so fast. laugh.gif

Well, apparently, after 1 week of usage, it's gonna be even faster.

10 hours with my new G73.

Still not really used to the new keyboard, as i always pressed some random numpad buttons accidentally whenever i type something.

I've made the comparison... yeap Gentech is still way cheaper....
dude people only need to log in to your website to compare...
since now USD conversion rates is lower @ 3.08 GENTECH is CHEAPER!!!

but... I'll hold on to my purchase since I'll be goin to taiwan soon... wanted to compare between GENTECH and Taiwan price before committing it
*
If possible, get from Gentech.

It's a shame i didnt get from them in the end. I want my 1CD thermal paste.

So what is the price import from gentech with keyboard and wasd backlight with blue color,And ship with UPS expedited Insured. So i can compare with cubehub price. Now i abit blur ......Need advice
*
Go to the Gentechpc and customize one. Then, click check out. Also, dont forget to add the shipping fees which is 129USD. Thats what i got quoted last time.

Adding coloured WASD keys are easy. Just remove the keyboard and put the coloured transparent paper under the keyboard. Gentech could do it in a range of colours for 15USD. Pretty nice, but useless as if you are a gamer, you can find the WASD keys with your eyes closed on any keyboard.

You can see the final price of the notebook.

One more thing i like to point out, if possible, try to get from Gentech as Gentech could upgrade your BIOS and vBIOS for you before they ship to you. Saves you a lot of trouble when you get your laptop and got GSOD the first time.

I did request Ken last time, and Ken happily told me they could do that for you.

If i havent found a similarly priced G73JH-FHD with dual Momentus XT and im not in Australia, i will still go back to Gentech. No fun getting taxed when im getting my laptop delivered to me from US as i might need to spend RM1000 to get my laptop back. Or the customs probably gonna have lots of fun gaming time on my G73.

Another plus point is, go for custom thermal paste as stock G73JH paste are quite bad in most cases. Im considered lucky to have Fur Mark running lower than 90C, or maybe i didnt push it far enough. sweat.gif

Lastly, if you are getting a G73, i think G73JW would be a better choice. nVidia have better driver support and you dont get weird GSOD with nVidia. Forget about the infamous 8600M GT or 8400M GS problem, as it's probably wont happen again. Heard JW runs slightly cooler too due to better stock pasting, despite losing about 5fps to 5870.

well, SGD just went up to 2.39 (2.39MYR = 1 SGD) and if you convert ur money at money changer its 2.45 MYR to 1 SGD
(all time record btw, highest last time was 2.38 MYR to 1 SGD)

So cubehub is not cheaper anymore.
*
Just go whichever cheaper option.

Slightly, about 5 fps in most games, but a huge performance boost if you play DX11 games.

Give it some time, and it will improve as nVidia is insane with drivers.

Someone in NBR posted this:

QUOTE
For Momentus it's a power saving feature. Don't worry about it. If you don't like the clicking you can find free software to edit the power saving settings to prevent it from doing that. All it's doing is moving the needle to save power etc. It's NOT breaking.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-gamin...tml#post6826129

Hopefully thats true. It cant be both of them are making the noise because they are faulty. It's very very soft, only can be heard if you are very very close to the monitor.

you might wanna double confirm with astria... ask him whether his momentus XT also making noise?
*
astria said his one is quiet.

I did google it, seems like some people are also complaining a lot about the noise level of Momentus XT.

Bad firmware actually. It's just the needle head parking noise.

Need to flash both HDDs in DOS again!!! doh.gif

Cheese: u may want to do a chkdsk to confirm???

i remember having the same problem with my old Momentus 7200.3 that came with the N81Vp, and also the Hitachi Travelstar that came with my old BenQ S41... chkdsk seems to able to isolate the problem as it reports of bad sector...

well, that's a real spoiler of the day if it's really ur case... sweat.gif
*
Well, i have been looking around. It seems like some Momentus XT is quite noisy as it's running on high performance mode.

I'll give chkdsk a shot. Thats a real spoiler, IMO.

hmm, u mean there's new firmware for Momentus XT???
*
There are new firmware that will fix the noise, but the firmware is only from Dell. And people who had the noise have reported that the noise is gone after updating with new firmware.

I think my G73JH is quite noisy, as the GPU is pretty much constantly spinning to lower the temps to 53C. Then, there is this soft scratching noise.

Overall, im still satisfied with it.

Yea, but that sounds exactly like the old dead Samsung HDD i had.

True, i'll try and see.

Not fun, as i have to go DOS again, from what it seems.

Turning off Indexing seem to be better. Less noise now, and not really noticeable.
