Not really, it's impractical to deploy tripod when you are covering events. Big aperture lenses helps a lot in situation like this.
*
Quite agree with this statements especially the events has certain activity with lots of movements under dull lights ... which I have encountered however even sometimes a 70-200 F2.8 wouldn't help that much when the light is freaking dull.... so is quite challenging to handle low light situation without flash support or even it using flash for me it was really really hard to get a good exposure

QUOTE(zstan @ Sep 1 2010, 09:20 PM)
“new D3100 CMOS is indeed Sony designed and manufactured, to Nikon specs. It is basically a Sony CMOS with some mainly cosmetic differences and since not all pixels are being normally used at the edges, it gives the manufacturers the leeway to make the specs change to make them look different. Sony’s policy, for over a decade, has been to sell its chips to competition with 6 months delay. Although Nikon had sample chips to design their products, they could not start making the products during the 6 months of Sony selling products with the same chips, unless Sony has a different arrangement with Nikon, which I doubt. Nikon does not have the expertise to design its own chips, never the kind that Sony designs. Nikon would never be able to achieve Sony’s expertise. See the video codec on the Nikon CMOS. Do you really believe that it is different than Sony’s. It’s just set at 24p; that’s all. Do you believe that Nikon could design chip with this codec? Do you think that Sony would licence them the technology to copy Sony’s design? Sony and Nikon have a strong relationship and work together in fighting Canon. Canon is really nervous about Sony camera releases. The NEX and the 33/55 cameras are and will be marketed totally differently than previous Sony cameras, where Sony just continued the Minolta tradition, until they developed their own cameras, which were from the beginning meant to properly integrate video and still photography, which is the future trend and it is where Sony expertise lies. Total misinformation is that Sony is getting out of FF sensor business. Sony’s future is no OVF on APSC and a pro FF line with OVF. That will be Sony’s main future emphasis. That will naturally include continuous design and manufacturing of FF CMOS sensors. Pentax tried Samsung sensors. They dropped tham and went quickly back to Sony. No company cam produce better sensors than Sony.”

I dun care what sensor this sensor that ... but what I care is will they continue putting OVF on their APS-C model like the A7xx sucessor?

What difference will an OVF have when compared to a good quality EVF?  hmm.gif
*
For OVF you get pure clarity on the vision and no noise during low light

While EVF you get more informative package(can see balancing axis and focus point) and larger viewfinder like those FF cameras but you get fixed brightness (in current new models) and RGB ghosting somehow also noise

For video + still photograph I think A33 is quite ideal hence the difference between A55 is the GPS, lower buff rate and FPS for burst shooting and lower megapixel but for some review I saw that the A33 IQ in high ISO wasn't match against its little bro NEX? :/

Yeah same full HD AVCHD on A33/A55 so I either choose NEX or this as my secondary/primary gear but since its small I think mounting cobra would be very pain >.<... need to release vg eh if possible

just tried the a33, loving the EVF smile.gif but there is about 1 second lag to activate the EVF when u bring the EVF to eye level. The refresh rate of the EVF is very fast, it wont have ghosting/tearing effect when you moving the camera while looking through the EVF.
the local AF selection is quite easy, it is like the NEX, press the center button and you can choose the AF point.
the grip is abit small, cannot fit my pinkie, but not a major problem for me.
couldnt try the video mode as they dont have memory card in the camera. sad.gif

Bro where you try the sample ..might need to purchase next week urgently so need to take a look before I really consider to buy it

once again nice review by sifu albnok.

however my question is, does a550 uses the same battery as my dinosaur?

are the batteries used in NEX and the a55 the same? if yes, is it less powerful compared to my dinosaur's battery?

hmm.gif
*
Yes A550 use the same battery as the A200/300/350/450/500/700/850/900

While A55 use the same battery as the NEX-3/NEX-5

oh boy. then i have a problem switching to SLTs. laugh.gif need to buy new accessories again. new batts and new VGs. =/ (as if i will switch><)

why la they use NEX's batteries..to make it more compact? hmm.gif

@evil

i think the battery not as powerful?
*
A33/A55 in report has relatively weak battery life ... on A550 you can have 900~1000 shots using OVF/LV while A33/55 you only have around 100~300 shots using (EVF/LV) so additionaly battery grip or battery is needed for serious shooting

wanna know for users of NEX-5 ... itu original Sony battery can tahan how long? I mean, for standard use
*
Err I test my friends NEX-5 ... for normal shooting, it can last from 300~400 shots.
While third party is not good as original battery life but it can at least last for 200~250 shots on normal shooting.

Using video will drain a lot of battery life and it drains out very fast (like 1 and half hour from 100% to 10%)

That's informative thanks! rclxms.gif

IMO, the ori battery for NEX-5 quite tahan ler.. what about DSLR's like a500 or a550 on standard use?
*
up to 1000 shots ... using OVF while LV+OVF is up to 700~800 shots for ori battery while third party(like octopus/phottix) is around 700 shots for OVF while 550++ for OVF+LV

So far I think A450/500/550 has the strongest battery life (not sure about the new A560/A580)

Saw from some Taiwan review...

Because EVF works the way like the LV so you can see the WB changes and not only this now as I heard the A33/A55 has the Stabilization effects on the EVF and LV which means no more earthquake shaking using long telephoto lenses...

Just add ~100, you get extra battery, filter, 8GB mem stick and carrying case right?
or add ~700 to get all the above and 50mm F1.8
