Find on eBay, since it comes out earlier in the states.

Like wingster's a550 black edition, got for a steal price in China.

Must go there and buy buy buy! biggrin.gif
*
Hong Kong/China would release sooner ... but too bad cannot bring in with bulk lar .. sure kena heavy tax wan + no warranty also :< better charge your money and purchase on local safer (UNLESS the price is like heaven or hell then is another story)

Just download the sample A55 RAW file and have a look ... I would say the high ISO all have suffer the lost of detail compare to Canon ... it was like give a good clean image rather than quality ... but competitive against rival through (in terms of clean noise)

what i mean is yes, i know the A33/55 can use any other A-mount lens for AF video recording, but if the lens is a screw driven lens, as opposed to a SAM/SSM lens, will it AF as fast as we see in the video...
*
I think not ... as AF on motion video require much faster motor in order to get in focus smoothly and screw drive lenses might turn out louder and slower to focus ... IMO

but sony claims that the AF is so fast that the noise is neglible hmm.gif

of course this only applies in day light.

i wonder how will it perform at night? will it hunt? many many questions@@
*
Well AF might also in hunting as well when it cant track the target ... also not every time the AF works well as the DoF will cause it jump focus often. So need some knowledge to handle it as well

Also what is Shutter Lag by the way? I realizes more on video that the A55 needs to have longer shutter release time ... and yeah 10fps ... 50 seconds time buffer?

Put inside dry box and then put the dry box inside the security box(must be digital security and blast proof) when not in use ;D

tmj, I like the plain expression and the plain background!

zstan: Yes the A55 is technically a Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens.
*
I think can called both EVIL and SLT or perhaps EVIL+SLT ... because it runs electronic viewfinder but at the same time it has a mirror but transparent ...

OMG..... so nice........... have to resist poison. wait until a700 replacement out then compare.... hahaha.....
*
I'm quite impress by the EVF actually because it has a FF-ish viewfinder and has external data and infos which is awesome and also light! I hope there was any advance semi-pro for these model with compact sizes .... so can carry with light prime all the way as you like ...

But then if the a55 is so good already, and everybody is waiting for the a7XX, imagine how great it would be?!
*
I don't think A7xx would be impressive than the DSLT cameras ... although it has movie but like the A560/A580 ... may face some limitation or something else since they spend so much effort on their new system

Well for LV neither A33/A55 has many limitation + drawback, while A560/A580 can perform well but slightly slower AF (3fps compare to 4fps on A550) with the same 7 fps shutter priority (unless it features the same as A33/A55 which is shutter/exposure lock but still able to continuously focus)

however this just my opinion ... who knows Sony may make another shocking surprise for its successor ....

Just get some info .. the new A560/A580 CANNOT AF in Movie mode as A33/A55 does ... all manual focus = = also no manual control ... (well looks like I felt slightly sad for this part which cannot on par with the 550D) makes A560/A580 is totally not competitive in video features against its new rival(even their brother A33/A55) but still a good option for stills camera shooting ...

Goldfries: haha.. If only dslrs were THAT cheap. And yea it can be frustrating to see sony releasing below par models when they can release a really competitive one. But at the end of the day the photographer makes a good photo, not the camera (most of the time).
*
I don't blame about AF so much ... but no manual control on A560/A580 ... I know not all the model has fully manual control but sometimes they could at least offer a model which has and in a budget mid-level camera. Well maybe I too excited about how good of fully video control to be used on DSLR as I'm interested with some video filming on DSLR.... perhaps I was too picky xD

wingster, what u meant on 'no manual control'?
*
No shutter speed and aperture to adjust (like what we do on aperture/manual/shutter mode)

so certain creative effect will be limited like slow shutter can deliver some motion blur effects and aperture obviously can be easy control the DoF field and brightness which what some semi-pro videocam does

ieR, but dpreview's tests show that the full time AF isnt up to par when it comes to tracking fast moving subjects. its giving a low yield
*
But I think thats with issue on SAM kit lens or 10 fps mode

so let's say I'm gonna get into the community

which one would you guys say would be better for me?

a55 vs a580

let's say my budget reaches 4k.
note : I'm starting on my first DSLR
*
I think these 2 model should be around RM2~3k when come to Malaysia

A55

-Compact and very feature pack
-Fast AF on Movie Mode
-6FPS (In default mode) and 10FPS Advance Continuous Mode (Exposure is automatic. Setting focus set to 'single' mode gains you the ability to shift the aperture/shutter speed settings and adjust ISO but you lose the ability to refocus between shots, making the mode less useful for many applications.)
-3FPS Live View
-270 Degree Screen panning
-Bright and FF size of Electronic Viewfinder
-Low battery life due to its compact size (around 380 shots)
-According to review, it has better dust-resistance
-Single card slot input (for SD Card or memory stick)

A580

-Great ergonomics to hold
-Decent AF speed on Movie Mode
-5FPS and 7FPS Speed Priority (Aperture/Shutter Speed and Focus totally lock)
-3FPS Live View OR 7FPS on Speed Priority mode
-180 Degree Screen panning (top or bottom)
-Good battery life (Around 700~800 shots)
-Battery grip available
-OVF
-Dual memory slots for Memory Stick and SD Cards

I'm using it, very good. For mine it drains both batteries together (I think)

Can anyone clarify? I wanna know how the batteries work, 1 by 1 or drain both together. For a200.
*
It drains both together with an unequal ratio I think ...

just wondering will a33/55 perform better than a560/580 in terms of IQ  hmm.gif
both are quite similar except for the translucent mirror system
any suggestion?
*
Both have same IQ standard ... I believe since they using the same sensor (A33/A560 14MP and A55/A580 16MP)
