even you are the first few, they still can change it to other preferred users after referring to the card records... hahaha.,, sure got filter one...

I would think that the bank will not waste their manpower to review one by one. The computer system should do all the jobs and I don't think the system will make it that complicated. The easiest way to filter out is based on sms time entry and the cardholder meets the eligible criteria.
Maybe the staff will just double confirm the result.

Same here. I think only iPod shuffle. I thought there is only one winner on both occasion, meaning, you win in July and August, but can entitled for one only. I'm also getting confirmation like 45 minutes later although the server should received by 9.00am sharp because I got the delivery status once I sent

I've sent multiple copies since 8.59am. Still cannot get. Anyway, I think the winners list are fake, at least look quite fake to me

Only if you received the confirmation sms at 9:00am only got chance. One of the forumer in 'cari' won a Mac.

Finally someone response to my quest. Thx for ur response, Omisae0!  I move ard by using car actually. Currently I am using SCB Al-Saadiq Debit MasterCard which gives me 5% on retail/pharmaceutical and 7% rebate on fuel, these promo gonna end in Dec. So I think prob I don't need the Shell Card at the moment. As for planes, I got to book for my bro as he fly often but within the state itself. I plan to apply for Shell Card after my SCB Debit Master promo end tis Dec, while for AirAsia I'm stil thinking. Nt sure if I wanna get two cards from the same bank. And there is no Citibank at my place so must pay thru GIRO.
*
Citibank Shell only gives you 2.5% on Shell Petrol and 0.75% on others. 5% and 1.5% only if you have outstanding balance if I’m not mistaken.
They have promotion last time of up to 10% rebate with outstanding balance condition of course.

I think the air flight benefits (insurance coverage, compensation) only applicable for principal cardholder and not applicable if you buy for others. You may need to check on this further. So any card offers 1% rebate which is equivalent to AA 2x points should be fine. For AA, you can have 1-day priority booking if that concerns you. For special fare, local flight doesn’t seem to really benefits. It’s already very cheap at promo price.
However, I always heard my brother complains about this card like the priority booking.

Citibank cashback plat offers you 5% rebate for any petrol, 2% for pharmaceutical, groceries and certain bills payment, but the retail purchase/ others only 0.3%. Petrol only capped at RM600, which is RM30 rebate.

In my opinion, citibank needs to come out with new benefits (they have already got many type of cards) or re-launch certain cards like what OCBC does.

Like what the others said, depends on your needs. I would think OCBC Ti satisfies most people’s need. 5% on groceries, utilities bills, restaurant, petrol and 1% for the others.
Maybe you need to ask yourself a few questions like
i) How much do I spend each month?
ii) What are the categories of my spending? Petrol, air tickets and…?

Then you can find your best cc to suit you. But you said only want to apply during Dec after your current debit card promo ends, so maybe that time got other better cc offer that suits you.

It is UOB One platinum (I remember someone in this forum doesn't like it) and only applicable for BHP. It is stated in the first page.

He mentioned sometimes priority booking didn't sms him about zero fares and the cardholder doesn't have 1 day advance booking for that but that was 1-2 years ago. Not sure whether got any improvement or not recently.

I gotta say this but I may have seen so many folks coming in here and getting excited about applying so many cards and then asking for RM50 tax waiver.
*
Looks like the RM50 tax only works for the first few months where everyone cuts the cards that time, everything comes back to normal after half year. Maybe the coming budget 2011 the gov will come out with another plan, maybe like the previously planned of using 2 banks cc only or something else. Then I believe each bank will come out with their attractive offer to attract people to use their bank cc. There will be another war...

QUOTE(cenkudu @ Sep 30 2010, 10:31 PM)
btw just want to share with the rest about reloading touch n go with CC. we can actually reload touch n go at any petrol stations/kiosks that have the topup machine and have cc terminals. charge is 50 cents same if we are reloading using ATM (bank account). better than zing card as well (RM1-RM2 depending on banks)
*
I think CIMB waives the 50cents charges. Zing is somehow convenient as it automatic reloads when passing toll but ya, RM2 service charge is a bit expensive.

If you study the winners list for July and August carefully, it is so easy to spot so many repeat winners for the macbook grand prize and the notebook first prize. We could only manage to grab the consolation prize. Anyway, the consolation prize, iPod shuffle is actually the guaranteed prize.
*
Well, look at it this way. By spending 5k~10k in 2 months, you get 2 iPod shuffles for free and guaranteed, which is worth RM229 each. More than any promotion rebate out there.
But if you think you do not need the iPod shuffle, sell it and get the 'cash rebate' as a discount for purchasing your netbook/macbook.

I think early next year they might have the same promotion again.

I remember I saw somewhere on interest calculation before but I couldn't find it now.
The recent interest charges I encounter seems a bit different.

Here's the Math question.
Interest rate: 17.5% p.a
Previous balance: RM105
4th: spent RM210
12th: spent RM325
23th: pay bank RM50
29th: pay bank RM500

Due Date: 23th

How much interest the bank should charge on 3th of next month?

Anyone can answer that?

interest rate per month = 17.5%/12 = 1.46%
overdue balance = RM105+RM210+RM325+RM50 = RM690
finance charge = RM690 x 1.46% = RM10.07
*
RM50 is paid to the bank on due date and not spend it. Therefore the calculation is incorrect.
Any other calculation method based on daily interest?

Bro ... why getting into so much trouble ? If you are sensitive about the interest then do consider paying in full.
The calculations are done by the bank's computer ... the likelihood of error is very low.

is better to waste time on plan and manage your finance, Bank always love this kind of customer, because they generate more income to bank
*
QUOTE(hye @ Oct 5 2010, 02:18 PM)
I agree with your statement.
Simple answer to interest problems ... if you don't pay in full you'll be charged interest. Otherwise no issue coz no interest.
Please don't waste your time calculating the interest ... banks don't make money by cheating you on interest calculations. And please don't use the forum to ask someone else to calculate the interest for you.  icon_idea.gif
*
I ask so because some banks will waive it (normally the first time) if you question them how it is calculated. I tried before. They will tell you this and that but not really good explanation, then they will waive for you. I’m not encouraging it. Of course the best is always pay in full and never have outstanding balance, but sometimes you will need cash flow. So if you know how to calculate, you can better manage your finance. You will know how much it will charge if you don’t pay in full next time. Otherwise you will not feel the ‘pain’ of the interest charged and keep paying the minimum 5% everytime.

My point is not really want to calculate a particular interest for me (all are dummy data), I just wanna know how it is being calculated (method or formula) as I didn’t get the exact value, which means the formula used is not correct here. It’s good to know how it is being calculated.

You must act as an angry customer. Maybe your friend is sweet and kind. Just kidding. Of course, this does not work for some banks and even some cardholders. It doesn’t mean you can skip interest everytime (no bank will do that) and this is not my point.
My concern is everyone knows interest will be charged if you don’t pay in full, but if you are going to know how much interest will be charged if you don’t do so, maybe it will make you think twice and spend wisely.
Everyone know how the tiered interest rate works, but does anyone actually calculate the exact interest charged successfully?

If I remember correctly, I encountered 3 times. There is one time the bank claims that they charge additional interest and quickly waive for me. I don’t know why this could happen. I’m not sure whether different bank will use different formula or not, but some seems to cause you higher interest but it is still legal (It seems related to daily interest and due date). If anyone knows, I’d like to do a comparison. Thanks.

QUOTE(hye @ Oct 5 2010, 06:07 PM)
The best way to manage personal finance is to avoid this kind of interest as it is extremely high.
You speak as if you understand finance and work your personal finances as an enterprise. (Managed debt is good for business as it accelerates growth)
but this is your personal finances that you are talking about which can be as high as 17.5%. (vs personal loan which is in the single digit range)

The problem with a lot of folks is that their financial literacy is rather low and they often don't see the danger of using CC as a debt tool. There are other debt tools around but definitely CC is not the way to go. We don't want the government to further introduce regulations to stifle the use of credit cards (e.g. RM50 gov tax) just because a handful abuses it. (and rumors are another round of regulations will be introduced)

My point is ... you should not be advocating CC as a medium of personal debt. It is crazy! You may think you are in control right now but wait until it spirals out of control.
*
Definitely you are right about personal finance. Yes, CC can cause you in debt forever. I think it is second to Ah Long. Well, I’m not really trying to control the debt, just would like to know how it is being calculated in exact.

Finally I have received my 1st iPod shuffle but I'm receiving the latest generation model (4th gen). Wonder why they didn't ask me to collect, maybe it's already delayed. Luckily they sent me my favorite color. I think the subsequent iPod received will be the latest one as I called SCB and they said Apple has no more stock (old stock I presume).

Well, I prefer this latest gen as it has buttons on it, so if my earphone is broken I can use normal earphone. But I think it is cheaper, RM179.

Waiting for 2nd iPod shuffle to come...

Best way to enjoy fully the 3%+5% rebate is by paying RM2000 per month in utilities, if you are cash rich ;-)

For Oct, Nov Dec 2010
5% of RM2000 x 3 months = RM300 (rebate cap until end of 2010)
3% of RM2000 x 3 months = RM180

Thus, you pay RM6000 and get back RM480 of free utilities ;-)
*
Are you sure you will get RM480 for 3 months?
From what I know, maximum cap per month is still RM100, which will be RM300 for 3 months.
Assuming you use it for utility bill payment, you will only need to spend RM1250 instead of RM2000 to get RM100 rebate.

RM1250 x 8% = RM100.

That means you pay RM3750 instead of RM6000 to get RM300 rebate.

This is indeed a very good promotion and  thumbup.gif  for OCBC to enable bill payment using credit card rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif
But too bad for those registered auto-billing.
*
If your TM bill is RM100, by auto-billing you get RM2+5% (RM7) or RM4+5% (RM9). Pay via OCBC will give you 8% which is RM8 rebate. In my case, my bill has to be RM133 in order to get extra benefits.
For TNB, I think there is no discount for auto-billing. So, online payment is a good choice.
For Postpaid like Digi (I take iP4 package for example), auto-billing will give you RM5 discount which is RM58x5% (RM2.9), total RM7.9 rebate. If you pay via OCBC, you will get only RM63x8% (RM5.04). Not worth it.

Only if you take the 3rd package (iDigi238), you will benefit RM13.04 for online payment and RM12.9 for auto billing.

My conclusion is
- For TM, online payment only if your bill exceeds RM67 or RM133 respectively.
- For TNB, online payment.
- For Postpaid, auto billing.
- For those majlis perbandaran bill (assessment), online payment.

The 8% rebate for online bill payment is consist of OCBC Titanium credit card 5% rebate + 3% rebate for online bill payment promotion.
5% rebate max limit - RM100 per month until year end
3% rebate max limit - RM200 for whole campaign

So you need RM2000 bill payment to max out 5% limit.
FYI, online bill payment using saving/current account gets only 3% rebate (not 8% rebate).
*
QUOTE(ronnie @ Oct 6 2010, 08:12 PM)
Your calculation is wrong... you need to calculate separately for 3% and 5% rebates...
3% rebate has a capping of RM200 for the whole promotion period (29 Sep 2010 to 31 Dec 2010)
5% rebate has a capping of RM100 each month until 31 Dec 2010
*
Ok, i didn't read the T&C. Thought every campaign is the same. Looks like OCBC is very generous compare to other bank this time.
Assuming I spent RM100 for TM, 3 months will be RM300.
Since 5% is the same, 3 months I get additional RM12 rebate for auto-billing. If I use online payment, I get only RM9. Auto-billing is still ok for me. But for those getting RM2 rebate for auto-billing, better do online payment if it exceeds RM67.

For postpaid, assuming the same case, I get RM23.7 (RM5x3+RM58x3x5%) rebate for iDigi 88 plan. If I use online payment, I get RM63x3x5% + RM63x3x3% = RM15.12. Looks like for normal user, auto billing is still better. Not sure maxis and celcom got any rebate for auto-billing or not.

I think Astro is not under the list, maybe I miss out?
In order to get the full RM200 (3%) rebate, you may need to pay bill of a total of RM6666.67. Normal people will not reach that far. That is more than 2k bill per month!
Unless you pay advance for majlis perbandaran bills, or maybe pay bill for others.

Is your bill consumption very high? It is really depends on your usage either to go for auto-billing or online payment.
But for TNB, water(although hardly got any difference) and assessment/quit rent is very good rebate for online payment.

But I'm wondering if you have auto-pay for TM, and you pay one day advance before the bill charge (rough estimation, maybe left a couple of ringgit) whether you will still entitled for autobilling discount or not. You get double rebate, ha! But I doubt it will work.

If you already subscribe for TM auto billing, you need to make sure whether you are entitled for RM2 or RM4 rebate (maybe got different tier). If each of your TM bill exceeds RM67 (for TM RM2 rebate) or RM133 (for TM RM4 rebate), pay through OCBC internet banking is better.

In my case, auto billing gimme more.

I cannot guarantee but from my previous experience, I use AMEX auto debit service.
TM rebates RM4 for me every month. I'm not sure why now it is RM2 as advertised, maybe got different package or tier.
Theoretically, you can get the rebate as long as it is auto debit.

I have just received call fr SCB tis evening, offering me Gold Credit Card. I have a al-Saadiq current acc wif em which linked to the Master debit card. I was told just to fill application form & give IC. Other documents (payslips, epf, bankstatements is not required). They tell me annual fee is waived (for 2 years) and I get RM88 cashback once the card is activated. Means I don't have to pay GSTRetail rebate is 0.5% flat. I have surfed SCB website to see the existence of the promo but nt much details bt it. Is it really true tat u get RM88 cashback once ur card is activated, tat u don't even need to pay annual fee or GST. So the card is like free card. I wonder if I want to take the card coz I nt interested wif SCB CC, however they r offering me the card which I dont have to pay annual/GST so its like can give it a try for 1 yr perhaps or let it bcome spare card then cancel it off in the future. Any opinions?
*
Once you get the card, it means you get RM38 rebate actually. For promotion wise, some dining places offers 15, 25 or even 30% discount. You can see the link below whether there is any dining places you go frequently.
Dining promotions link

From the past 1 year, they offered up to 4 months guaranteed prized contest if you spend a certain of amount a month. The grand prizes are like LCD TV, Mac book, netbook and so on. Guaranteed prize is like iPod shuffle, camera. I believe the same contest will be held again next year due to overwhelming responses this year.

No harm taking it in my opinion. Just an advice, the more cards you are holding, the more debts you will be having unless you can manage your finance very well or pay full every month.

I'm just wondering if I signup for Auto-debit (TNB) in this case, I pay using OCBC internet banking 1~2 days before the statement date, probably I can still get the 3% rebate :-)
Just that I'm afraid the TM one might void the auto billing discount if you do so.

I don't think you need to worry, just call CS to double confirm it. Since you have 2 TM bills, if the 3% of amount for each bill doesn't exceed the rebate for auto-billing, auto billing still gives you more. Otherwise, I'm not sure whether the above method will work or not.
