I can't believe a few people are actually complaining about Google continuing to improve Android at a fast pace. I'd rather they do that since it shows they're still committed to the project.
Android 3.0 release soon...why so fast?

QUOTE(cheehing @ Aug 11 2010, 10:17 AM) Where got high la...Whether they want to support or not nia. Luckily Android is open source and they can mod and install, just like what they did with Hero. There aint gonna be 3d homescreen or what. While Flash is supported, Google actually prefer HTML5. HTML5 does not consume at much resources as Flash. |

One can never have enough of this especially if the current crop of Nexus, Desires, Galaxy S can use it true enough... if u already have the devices... why bother... just uprade it... (if u can upgradelah).... more security... more themes... more of more.... New OS is released fast so manufacturers can pick it up and toy with it and develop hardware that revolves around this OS.
If you look at other OS development, once an OS stuck, the hardware doesn't really improve much already. Or the hardware improves to the point the OS limits the possibilities the hardware can provide to the user. |

the only reason i could think off why anyone wouldnt want a fast upgrade to the platform is...
phone manufacturers are not updating their phones fast enough to follow google's pace... end users stand to benefit from an OS update no matter what (unless you are stuck with an old hardware) but that doesnt make your phone outdated, jeez its not like 2.1 eclair is unusable or old fashioned anytime soon, an upgrade should be seen as a bonus, your phone works and can be use for what it is intended for with the old platform anyway but i think this sentiment happens because of the now really not needed and unnecessary manufacturer skin on top of android.. HTC Sense, Motoblur etc etc is totally not needed... why do manufacturer even waste their time to ensure their skin working "seamlessly" with a new OS update before giving their users the update?? upwards of 2.2 and above.. the stock android can do everything that the skin ever does.. its totally unnecessary and I think only Motorola realizes this and are giving their users faster update with motoblur being thrown to the background as just an app.. |

Besides, this makes it better for developers IMO, it gives them more flexibility in their product offering; hardware, and more customer base; apps. One of the best example is the HD2, brilliant hardware, but the OS is kinda out of date for it, and doesn't offer the user the full potential of the hardware. For me, Google updating OS fast does not make phone obsolete quickly, bcoz the phone hardware will still be usable for the new OS...
So TS, no need to worry.... |

Not all phone can make the jump in OS. And in the case of the Gingerbread, Google makes it clear that it is only going to appear on High End Phones, while lower end ones are gonna have to stick with Eclair / FroYo. Thus, i believe not many "current" phone will get the jump over to Gingerbread when it arrives. So TS, no need to worry.... |

QUOTE(bonanno @ Aug 11 2010, 11:49 PM) and your point?... i know there is no different android inside, im just pointing out the reason for the delays of users getting new firmware update is because the phone manufacturers wants to make it work with their own UI first before releasing it to their users, and it is totally not needed as the stock android is already good enough.. |

Look at SE, x10 still with 1.6, HTC hero just got their official 2.1 Eclair update not long ago.. I think Motorola did very good in firmware update for their compare to other manufacture Users has wide choice now, if the manufacture still keep their old style strategy..sure they will left behind... Added on August 12, 2010, 11:01 pmAfter Gingerbread, wondering whats the next code name 1.5 - Cupcake 1.6 - Donut 2.1 - Eclair 2.2 - Froyo 3.0 - Gingerbread next - Honeybun ?
