i wonder how many good karma brought over from my past life has left...
i've been pretty 'good luck' on a few occasions...notably life threatening ones..including not seeing the incoming cars properly before making a turn...thankfully that time the opposing car was coming slow.. |

QUOTE(zstan @ Sep 12 2010, 07:54 PM) i wonder how many good karma brought over from my past life has left... Should be more careful next time hor. This kamma works in very complicated ways. Some destructive kamma can kill you no matter how you want to avoid also you cannot. Some are just killing kamma not so strong but can exert itself when conditions are right. So as far as possible, exercise mindfulness and do our best to be careful on the road.i've been pretty 'good luck' on a few occasions...notably life threatening ones..including not seeing the incoming cars properly before making a turn...thankfully that time the opposing car was coming slow.. But if really got destructive kamma , then no choice. Always reflect on death, that will give you a sense of urgency to practice the dhamma. We are never sure of what kamma will mature tomorrow, or until when we will have chance to practice the dhamma again. Human life is very short, but it is also the best avenue to get lots of merits. |

QUOTE(Josep86 @ Sep 12 2010, 05:25 PM) Nobody knows how the buddha actually look like. But it was recorded in the Sutta, that the buddha possess extremely refined features (handsome) and so as his son Rahula.Ven Anuruddha (one of the prominent disciples with divine eye) was recorded to be very handsome until some females wanted to disturb him. These great people have good kamma, and they were born with riches/power and good looks. |

QUOTE(Tohsan @ Sep 20 2010, 08:58 AM) Can u explain the one i highlight how this meditation can help promote protection by Devas? How to know even if there is any Devas around to protect you? Well, there are many ways to do this type of meditation. I understand there are people who follow the instruction to direct the metta to the deities around them. It is mentioned there are some deities who are friendly , and some who are not so friendly. If you wish them well, of course the deities (if they are around you) will be happy, and they will become friendly to you. The not-so-friendly deities will become neutral to you, and the friendly ones will become close to you. This post has been edited by soul2soul: Sep 20 2010, 09:22 AM |

Those are classic example of monks that is going thru meditation daily, what about layman? This is especially important for monks who enter a forest to do meditation, and they direct metta to the invisible beings in the forest to ask for protection against the 'not-so-friendly' ones. If i remember correctly, there are recorded cases of monks who were disturbed by terrifying images in the forest during the Buddha's time. This was due to the unfriendly deities manifesting themselves. These monks went to the Buddha, and the Buddha taught them to direct Metta to those deities. AFter that, they did not encounter anymore disturbances there. |
