QUOTE(Joey-kun @ Aug 24 2010, 09:05 AM)
but if it depends on individuals then by right there should be many different states of enlightenment! but in reality there is only one state..

not all buddhists want to attain the cessation of suffering because mahayana and vajrayana aim to lift the suffering for others.

all beings want pleasure and happiness, and abhor pain and suffering. if we practice Dharma to avoid suffering, i dont see how it can lead us out of samsara as the intentions of practicing buddhism is not that different than getting good education and a good job so that there will be no 'suffering'. If we think like all other beings in samsara, how do we get out of it?

problem is many people would probably have to fight a huge barrage of wrong views and mental stubbornness to get there. For example would you read a text written by a tibetan master?

Hmm.

From what I remember,

1 Meng (Life)
2 Wan (Destiny)
3 Feng Shui
4 Hang Xin Jik Dak (do good deeds)
5 Duk Shu (Education)

I guess Destiny comes before Karma?

Long winded thread and so many misdirected buddhists.
If you're a true buddhist you should know.
Life = Suffering.
Since life = suffering and every action brings you good/bad karma..
You should not have children because you bring a life/soul to suffer.

That is bad karma, so you never get out of the attachment cycle because you're attached to love and afraid of loneliness when old/dying.
True spiritual people should not have children.
The flesh is a trap for the soul and corrupts them, causing them to be reincarnated again and again due to addiction to matter stimuli.
Want to escape this cycle of rebirths/reincarnation ?
Stop procreating and learn to face your fears of dying by yourself.
*
yes please go and dai now and end your sufferings.

If it is me, and I would understand what one wrote, I won't mind.

That's because I don't know what is right and what is wrong yet so reading more would help I guess?\

But what you'd said above made me puzzled for a while as if I get you correctly, to practice the Dharma it's not only for oneself it's also to help others to lift their 'suffering' then only it will lead oneself's out of samsara. Did I get you correctly?
*
well think about it....if everyone else in samsara just want happiness and want to avoid suffering and that is their sole focus, and the reason to practice Buddhism is for that, what makes you break the cycle of acquiring happiness and avoid suffering? it's the same thing just that the target object is different....

in that case, the Buddha shouldnt have spent his time explaining to people on how to achieve enlightenment because he is also using intellectual argument. He has also used that before against a few people before in the suttas. Most notable was the guy who wanted to debate with the Buddha. So are you saying that the Buddha should have done differently?

so how is saying that mahayanists and vajrayanists focus more on helping others intellectual?

so i'd like to ask, how is this an intellectual argument? I am just presenting my points, if you disagree or you find something wrong feel free to point it out smile.gif

have you not notice that this entire thread is nothing but intellectual postings and ramblings? so in reality we shouldnt be having this thread, but the reason why i do explanations like this is so that people can read and they might just benefit from it.

fate dosent exist in Buddhism because everything can change depending on how much effort you put to displacing the conditions that cause you to be in such a way.

If you noticed, I only said "don't fall into intellectual debate trap", and I got an earful lecture from you. You think you are right and I am wrong, be it, no need to argue.

i might have sound a little too aggressive with the way i presented my viewpoints so i'd like to apologize.

I did not mean to put you down or challenge you.

but also all the same if you dont wish to see my postings, just say it and i will stop posting here.

since what i write dosent help people to understand Buddhism better, but on the other hand seem to have offended certain people might as well stop it.

Why not? As long as it doesn't go out to hand, it's still a good discussion.

Rather than being trolled all day long that's what that keeps the thread going
