more like geared towards wp7 live tile. those metro UI are actuall "all program" or the "start/windows" button on normal windows environment. whatever u installaed in windows it will appear at the metro UI.

so if you arent doing any technical things on windows. the metro UI is a good and easy platform for your work/entertainment/social network needs.

What I meant to say is, the current Office 15 beta is not touch friendly. It's still the same Office 2010 and if there's no alternative touch-friendly UI, I bet it's going to be quite hard to use, especially with those (existing) touch tablets that have low resolution.

Microsoft is trying to make an impression here! I think when vista was a big flop..they very soon released windows 7. I think now Microsoft them self are unsatisfied with windows 7. i think there won't much changes in windows 8. they just want $$$

To be frank, posts like yours are very annoying. It's an unfinished product, what do you expect from a product which is still far from complete? Until it's released, then talk.

hey they got to release new version once in a while, nobody will satisfy with their products forever, there's no perfect os so they have to improve regularly, btw... which big company don't want $$$? There are not doing 100% charity you know? (although MS did a lot of charity)

I think there are reasons why it is only available for Developer's preview rather than to end users like us so that we can make a good impression on the final product rather than having an early conclusion on an unfinished software.

I think a lot of folks are expecting "Windows 8" to be the typical "your next Windows upgrade". I don't think this is quite the case, at least at the moment.

I truly believe Microsoft has done Windows 7 right, and now aims to take the next step in computing - focusing on touch functionality. It is an area that has existed on Windows platform before, but never on this scale - across the entire version. It is true that there may not be noticable changes when compared to Windows 7 (e.g Home users etc.) but underneath Windows 8 is a brand new 'layer' that adds a tremendous amount of the "next step" in computing.

Watching the preview builds and videos, I have to say that Microsoft is yet again taking a risk. In my opinion, a risk that will work out both ways - those who want the touch functions and those who just want a newer operating system. Vista had too many new features/unwanted features and was considered "bloated". Windows 7 solved it all by trimming and making everything user-centric. Windows 8 aims to bring touch features to the forefront, something Microsoft has never done on this scale.

So in a way, Windows 8 may not be essential, but it is the next version of Windows that will improve user experience. Whether or not it will be popular among computer manufacturers / users, remains to be seen. I believe (most) fans of Windows 7 will upgrade to Windows 8, while computer manufacturers will *hopefully* start manufacturing even more touch-capable computers. The Metro interface is sweet. Never seen one in the flesh, but it is a really clean and neat interface.

Yes Vista was really troublesome and unstable.

Windows 7 changed that. Now Windows 8? Hmm , dunno if I gonna upgrade to 8. Just bought new laptop with Windows7 Home Premium....

Don't upgrade if you don't want to. Windows 8 was primarily designed to run on ARM devices, so you can use Windows on tablets.
