QUOTE(v1n0d @ Mar 8 2012, 01:15 PM) Too much focus on making it a mobile-friendly OS. Metro is more suited to touch screens, using a mouse feels weird. I really miss the standard desktop. Sure it's available for use, but just like Unity took over Gnome in Ubuntu, the Metro UI will take over the standard desktop interface. i agree with u . kinda weird using mouse .. windows 8 more suitable for touch screen computers or tablets ..

Just install today. Ok la. But many stuff that we got used to since 2002 has gone. Want to install printer also difficult. This one definitely for tablet. I think the hardest to be hit is 3rd party software developers. Something like UBS and such will have to update a lot of their interface to make use of win 8.
It does feels slightly faster. Also those who uses mouse a lot will have to learn up keyboard shortcuts for this. Even want to power down system needs keystroke. Or most pc nowdays can press power button once and win can shutdown already.
Still a lot of networking stuff is hidden. I dunno if there will be many versions or not. But the CP version now is simply not tech configuration people friendly.

I installed on my dad's Acer Iconia last week. He loves it! On Windows 7, the Iconia was slow and almost unusable.... with Win 8, it is super responsive. Boot in about 8 seconds, scrolling is hardware accelerated and buttery smooth as in iPad smooth...
... but I think the OS still needs work. It's less intuitive now. Swiping to get the menus out is hit-and-miss (as in, we often have to swipe twice to get it to work), there are now TWO types of programs, i.e. one being "normal" windows and another being Metro apps (even IE has two versions)...
Overall, I would give the consimer preview 6.5/10 - it brought some good improvements, but broke somethings too... hopefully MS will have a good rethink. Personally I think they should get rid of the desktop altogether and just go with Metro... but then they can't call it Windows since Metro has no windows LOL

Well, there's still a "desktop view" in win8 although Metro UI is the default UI in win8 though.

Metro UI navigation in pc is kinda sucks from my experience although it works really well on touch screen enabled device. It does work faster compared to windows 7 and opening file explorer will enabled the usual desktop view.
The few feature I'm interested in Windows 8: 1) Programs will now run parallel in smartphone, table, and pc. From what I heard there will be 2 categories of application 1 for high spec device and 1 for lower spec device which means the app that are able to run in all device will be the one that run on lower spec. 2) The files will remain after formatting, my concern was about the virus infected files... 3) Starting onward from windows 8, any upgrade will keep the current files and preferences intact.

Meh I agree with you. The anti virus system in win8 still weak to since relying in windows security alone is just one layer defense other than firewall. Overall the performance is great because no resource hogging antivirus needed and it fixes Hp mini 210 wireless driver issue that critically occurred since win7
