Why would one get MBA and install windows 7 on it? You are gonna bloat it real good, no offense rather it stay Mac osx only.
*
Based on my experiences using Windows on MAC, best is still to use XP. Even though it is old OS but is stable and reliable. All my Macs using it even though I bought Windows 7 last year for my iMAC

The folks over at Macworld might just have what you’ve been looking for — benchmark scores. The website has published benchmark results for all four variants of the new Air and as it turns out, all four outperformed previous generation models. The new 11.6-inch MacBook Air, even with its 1.4GHz processor, managed to outperform the older 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo models thanks to its speedy flash storage. The new 13.3-inch 1.86GHz model even managed to marginally outperform the current 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Got the new 11" macbook air 1.4 and my immediate impressions is faster, smoother and not so hot compared to my previous first gen 1.8 model. I would say this 1.4 Hz model is good if you are not into intensive graphics applications.
So far very happy with it as I used mainly for light office work and browsing.

I have been using Windows 7 on iMac and macbooks ( havent tried on the latest MBA yet) without any major issues. I use it via VMFusion 3.01 .

The only problem I faced so far is the problematic and inconsistent performance when I need to flash my windows mobile and android smartphones. It is still more reliable to do such in a actual Windows computer

It is my understanding that most USB optical drives will work with the MacBook Air.

The only compatibility issue is the reverse, where with the SuperDrive will not work with other computers.
*
You are right.I have been using a generic brandless cheap USB DVD drive (R/RW) for my first gen MacBook Air . The same drive works very well too with the present MacBook Air 11". I can even burn DVD's. If you ask the Apple reselers, they will tell you must buy Apple's Superdrive - not necessary

Anybody can tell me if running Parellels with outlook can still sync with blackberry without issues. Looking to order the 13.3 Ultimate but concerned about BB data (calenders & contacts). BB is not well supported on Mac. Sigh!.
TIA.
*
MISSING SYNC for Blackberry ( MAC version ) is very good. I'd advise you to transfer all your calendars and contacts data over to Apple Address and iCAL or use Microsoft Entourage. Then you need not touch Outlook anymore. This is what I did when I move over to MAC from Windows. Missing Sync is a FIRST class sync solution - I bought it since the days of Windows Mobile, Blackberry and present Android. Its sync is very fast and is 100% accurate. Worth every cent spend on it

I have no problem using missing sync for my windows mobile, blackberry and android. Make sure you buy it and don't use those cracked pirate versions. The developer gives excellent response to all queries and replies is either same or next day

I bought the 11" model. Perfect for me. I am also using a DLINK wireless modem. The detection and connection is close to instant - there is no need to do any settings

You should test it other Wifi places . If similar problems then is probably hardware issue

i think these days more people buy notebooks than desktops

also, for imac, no one will ask about battery n casings (two most discussed topics in this thread IMO tongue.gif)
*
Yes that is true. The MacBook is portable which the iMac is not.
I own both an IMAC and a Macbook Pro and the latest MacBook Air. Seriously , nothing beats the experience using the iMac with its big screen

I understand what fragile means to him. The new. MBA indeed does not look robust. I compare it with my previous Sony vaio Vpcx117 a 11" model which is 0.2 inch simmer, 0.5 inch shorter and 240gm lighter, the Sony looks solid and robust and well built. The new MBA is more dainty feminine looking unlike the Sony muscular looks. One just have to handle the MBA with better care. BTW Steve jobs claim the new 11" MBA is smallest notebook . What a mistakes n exaggeration. He should see the Sony vaio Vpcx117 or vpcx1275.

There is no perfect notebook. To me the poorer build just means I have to take better care. The vaio is infact a very good notebook except it run windows 7 as I am basically on macs.

@nike90,
i didn't know how amazing Google Search is..  tongue.gif
Typed in a few words, and BAM! This came out.

Not suprising. My response is not specifically to the question raised but in general terms.

Many people wants quick answers/solutions and they expect it out from such forums. I see same trend in many of these forums here ( iphone/windows portables/ipads/androids etc ). I find the mods at the Apple Byte has done a very good shop organizing all the information. If one just bother and take the trouble to check all the various categories at Apple Byte - I'd say most if not all the basic FAQ are often already there.

It is sometimes very frustrating to see the same questions are always being asked again and again. I am a follower of many forums in LowYat and I see the same trend. Most mods when start any official thread, would put up a good summary in post 1 or post 2 BUT most newbies seldom read and ask questions when the answers are already there. It is either they do not know such info is there or they are just plain "lazy" to search. I'd say the latter is mainly the case. I also noticed most of the regular and knowledgeable forumers had even stop replying

I always encourage people to "GOOGLE search" - one will be surprised at all the possibilities you can see. But somehow many newbies just do not seem to know how to do this

just bought a Samsung slim external DVD drive black colour (RM175) for my MBA 11"
and bought a WD 500gb external HDD too....  the external drive works perfecty...

is an amazing notebook...beautiful...quick start up....
*
Even my 2 year old generic unbranded cheap external USB RW/R DVD drive works well. But yet at the Apple Store, the sales guy will still tell you must buy the Apple's Superdrive. When I told him that what he said is incorrect, his reply " This is Apple's official standard instructions " , so he cannot said otherwise

Azrin : I think is most probably their boss or superior instructions just to boost sales. I recieved similar answers when I bought my first 1.8 MBA from machines midvalley and the 2.13 model from epic pavilion and the recent unit from MacStudio TimesSquare
