In areas where the maxis coverage is not very strong, I've noticed that the line fluctuates between Edge and HSDPA alot. Maxis' problem, nothing much you can do about it I guess. I'll usually just switch to Edge and sacrifice speed in those instances.

First post here after being a reader most of the time. Anyway, I need some help on updating to Froyo and hope that someone can point me to right direction - I don't intend to brick my 1-week old phone.

The phone is not rooted at all.

Today, when I casually checked the system update, I was told that I can move up to 2.09.405.8 (90MB) which I suppose is Froyo.

If I'm not mistaken, you need about 25MB of phone storage free to perform the OTA update but after reading various forums/experiences, I'm a bit scared to try this unless I'm sure that the steps lead me towards a successful update. This especially coming from a guy who once bricked his kids' Wii within 3 days of purchase

What kinda backup do I need to do first? Which software? I've just downloaded MIQ, which according to the description, should allow me to backup my contacts, sms and apps - I've got quite a collection of free apps since I can't get the paid apps with the unrooted phone.

What if something goes wrong during the update? How do I un-update it and restore my Eclair?

Sorry for asking too many questions but I've read a good share of horror stories when people tried to update their unrooted, non-branded and unlocked HTC Desire.

I'm having problem with HTC_IME mod as well, since NextSense v4.. dunno what's wrong. Always got FC when I try to use it.
Hahaha.. i tried openDesire before as well.. used for like half an hour. Then nandroid restore back to Sense rom. LOL.

Guess should be worth. Oh btw, OpenDesire score quite high

This message was meant to be sent last night but I got too tired to write. Anyway, here's some highlights from my attempt to update my AP set to Froyo using OTA.

1. The update was somewhat successful I guess. I saw that the software version stated 2.2 and that the Froyo applications are on the phone (no need to list them here).
2. My phone however, got stuck during power up with the message "Unlocking your SIM and updating your phone" before another message asking to "Force Close or Wait". The phone reboots itself every 3-5 minutes or so!!
3. I had to switch to Airplane mode but the phone can't detect my SIM card, SD card, WiFi, GPS and probably a host of other things as well. Like I said, it reboots itself every now and then so I can't really check.
4. I can see that my config (home screen, apps, scene) was still intact after the update. But my phone has been rendered unusable due to the endless rebooting loop.

I did some googling last night and found that others have had similar problems post-OTA update and that they fixed it by flashing a generic ROM onto the phone. I wasn't so lucky with that either - same results, actually.
Another option was to use a "gold card" but after trying to create mine, I figured this is best left to the guys at the store where I bought the phone (6 days ago!!).

Thanks for the help anyway. I had a feeling that it'd turn like this but went ahead with the update as I'm running out of space to install apps anyway. Probably it's better to root the phone instead haha..

NextSense 5.1 users, do you guys feel that data transfer its slower on this rom? When using LeeDroid 1.6, my house area always detect HSPDA, on NextSense 5.1, always 3G only. Anyone else notice this or is it just me?

I thought it was the case i first two days (always at "E") but found out that it was Maxis issue... Now I get back "H" in some areas

It shouldn't be caused by NextSense based on what Neophyte changed in the ROM (it still uses same Radio, uses same HTC Sense OTA build just added some tweaks and add-ons)

Hi guys, just got my Desire and played with it for few hours.
Battery really teruk! Initial 50% of battery only lasted few hours. Should be the new battery and contionous Wifi.
I'm going to condition the battery & hope it will improve after time.

SLCD screen is still very great. No problem as far as color accuracy is concerned.

Surprisingly though, I notice lag when scrolling up & down (All Programs list). My Legend with slower processor is really super smooth.

So, I am eager to root & flash Froyo to improve the performance. One confirmation from you guys though. Do I just root following XDA procedure for SLCD and then after that, I can choose any ROMs?

Disable yr 3G. On it only when u need to use it. Saves loads of battery.

I notice that my A2SD+ partitioned SD Card will not be detected by Windows via Card reader - it says "SD Card is not formatted, do you want to format now?"

Not really an issue as I can always connect as disk drive via USB cable, but just a finding

Btw, NextSense 5.2 ROM is out, a lot of updates it seems

Easily reaches 13XX (downclocked it to 806Mhz it still can reach 11XX to 12XX). NextSense 5.2 link isn't up yet btw

Alternatively, netcounter, it can track wifi usage too

- Added HomeSwitcher and you can switch between different UI (I still prefer HTC Sense!)
- Added "Powersave", "Performance" and "Interactive" governer for setcpu...
- Smooth as usual.. no major bug
- Brut Maps stockified (by squrl) - you don't have to have two Google maps in the OS now, and there's no "Brut" watermark on the logo
- New version of "Superuser Permission"
- Lockscreen is changed to the transparent one again, but it's possible to revert to Android default still (I prefer that one!)
- 14 new wallpapers... but somehow they are all gone after I restored stuffs via Titanium Backup -.-
