BioWare's Laidlaw: DA2 'Legacy' DLC is a response to fan complaints
![]() QUOTE "There's a game out there that's better than both [Dragon Age] Origins and DAII, and I'll be damned if the talented folks of the DA team can't find it," BioWare lead designer Mike Laidlaw concluded a recent response to one fan on his company's forums. He was engaged in an ongoing conversation over the past few days in a subject thread titled "Dragon Age 2 reception and community discussed," wherein fans sounded off and a handful of BioWare reps responded to criticisms about the critically divisive Dragon Age 2, and its improved follow-up DLC, Legacy. "Legacy, I think, goes a long way towards demonstrating that we are listening, that we are aware of the weaknesses of DAII, and that we will continue to address them," he responded to another, specifically citing combat encounters, asset re-use, loot, and choice impact as areas to improve. While he of course didn't speak to Dragon Age 3, he did note that "Reasonable, passionate feedback is the best possible thing to provide. Seeing strongly negative reaction to DAII, and strongly positive reaction to Legacy, even from some of DAII's strongest detractors (and yes, I know it's not universal, but what is), is incredibly useful. Legacy is a lot more entertaining than DA2. I would have less complaints if DA2 was anywhere near as good as this.
New codex entries instead of recycled ones as well as new locations and more darkspawns to trample on. |

Dragon Age II DLC will "address some" of core fan feedback
QUOTE BioWare's Dragon Age II caused a "polarization" among fans acknowledges studio co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka. There was a "tremendous number" delighted. Many who didn't like the sequel were likely "expecting a similar experience" to Origins. Future DLC will "actually address some" of the issues for core fans. "I think there was actually a tremendous number of people that came into the franchise and were delighted. So there were many people who critically thought it was wonderful, and actually a lot of old fans did as well," said BioWare's Dr. Ray Muzyka. "There’s no doubt that there was a polarization though. Maybe some of that can be attributed to some of the fans of Dragon Age: Origins who were maybe expecting a similar experience. But we actually innovated, we took a lot of risk, we were pushing the envelope on how we told the story, the gameplay, the action moments, the graphics - a lot of things were changed." "And, actually, I really believe it was the right direction," he affirmed. Many complained that environments were reused too much as levels got recycled with small variations between them. "We also recognize that feedback from core fans is incredibly important, so we take that to heart," continued the studio boss. "We’re listening to it. We’re commercially successful, so we actually drew a lot of new fans in, exceeded our expectations, and what we want to do in the future is make sure we integrate that feedback from our core fans, so they come along with us for the journey, as we continue to build up the Dragon Age franchise and make the next ones even bigger and better so that all of our fans are delighted and surprised." "We think we can do that. We can actually take the best of breed features from the original game in Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II and put them together; and some of the changes we made in Dragon Age II, we were proud of the team." "We think they were the right changes. We wanted the team to push in that direction, but we also want to integrate feedback from our core fans because they’re really important to us. So I think there’s a nice balance that can be struck to achieve that," he said. BioWare will keep applying lessons from fan feedback into their DLC line-up for Dragon Age II. They're not yet ready to formally announce Dragon Age III is in development. "We’re working on future projects in the Dragon Age franchise," he acknowledged. "We have some more DLC plans, that actually address some of the feedback from some of our core fans. I think that’s going to be really satisfying to fans who liked DAO and DA2." "We haven’t announced Dragon Age III formally at all, but we can say we’re definitely thinking about future products. There’s some cool stuff in the works there." Dragon Age II's first premier piece of downloadable content was released a little while back and called Legacy, which saw Hawke able to investigate why his family is being hunted by a criminal organisation. All DLC will focus on the main character, unlike in Origins. Has Dragon Age II disappointed you, or has it simply been a different experience? Source: Strategy Informer |

Dragon Age Legends Heading To Google+
![]() QUOTE The new social "project" (network was taken) from Google now plays host to BioWare's fantasy franchise. Better go tell all your circles. Dragon Age Legends expands upon the popular fantasy fiction of the franchise with a simple, tactical combat game. Players take on quests, advance the story, earn loot, and grow their kingdom as they customize and upgrade their characters. The game includes both cooperative and competitive modes. “We’re very excited to be among the first games launching on Google’s new social project. It’s an honor to join Google in celebrating the birth of their gaming platform on Google+ by expanding Dragon Age Legends to an even wider audience,” said BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka. “Dragon Age Legends raises the quality bar for social network games. By bringing the franchise to Google+, we’re able to connect and entertain millions of existing and new fans within the rich, immersive Dragon Age universe!” Dragon Age Legends is available on Google+ starting today, and the game released on Facebook back in March. QUOTE(Enclave Recruit @ Aug 5 2010, 08:54 PM) Just completed DA Awakening. Took me 22 hours to finish all the quests. The companions in the expansion are forgettable except Anders. He's like a cross between Alistair and Zevran. Oh ya, Ser Pounce-a-lot can be used to revive fallen party members. How cute! I was wondering what would happen the first time I activated the kitten. |
