You need a pair of homeplug, one at your DIR 615 connected to LAN4 which is reserved for IPTV, the other one at STB. True, if you use the 200 Mbps you get 10/100 Mbps ethernet connection, but that is good enough for IPTV already. I think you can get like 20-50 Mbps through this homeplug if your line is clean. I am using the Gigabit Homeplug myself, I think I am connecting between 80 to >100 Mbps because my homeplug switch between 10/100/1000 and 10/100 (blue LED and green LED), although 70% of the time it stays at Gigabit.

There is no secret, it's just TM messing up the system.
I am on VIP20 and ever since they started upgrading their network/system or whatever (according to their tech support who came to my house) I've been getting about double the speed that I'm supposed to get.
*
Even my current 1Mbps Streamyx is at 1.5Mbps (2Mbps package?) for about three months. brows.gif

They did the same where I live over a weekend during which we signed up. It took them more than a month before I finally got the installation. Maybe it was because we specifically requested that the installation be on a saturday?
*
Please correct me if I am wrong. I thought if you can sign up, does it means UNIFI is ready at your area? I saw white TM box mounted on overhead pole with fibre optic cables loop in/out from TM white box.

You need more space for ventilation especially for DIR-615 IMO.

TM confirmed they are coming to install UNIFI at my home on 2nd Sep.

By then, I may need many SIFU's help (though I have read Riz's detailed guide on settings) if I can't figure out, thanks in advance.

As my post earlier, I intend to buy two home plugs as most likely my BTU and DIR-615 will be located at First Floor Family Hall, then IPTV to be installed at Ground Floor Living room, so one home plug near DIR-615 and the other near IPTV/LCD TV. Is the setup ok?

Another question, I need to do a bridge from DIR-615 to my existing modem-router (Linksys WAG120N), is it possible?

Thanks again.

WAG120N is a ADSL router with an RJ11 port -- as I mentioned in my guide, it wont work. You need an IP router smile.gif
*
Thx riz for your prompt reply, that what I thought. Any recommended IP router which is cheap and reliable, such as Linksys ?

I am planning to go to Lowyat to purchase: -

a) Homeplugs - estimated RM120+ each
b) IP router - ?RM

Any other equipment do I need to purchase for the complete setup?

Thanks again.

Thanks D3vilsim for your confirmation:)

I just want to reaffirm before buying something which is useless, I need to throw my WAG120N which was just purchased 6 months ago when UNIFI is installed

Confirm will work. My ZTE BTU and DIR 615 are in my study. Using a pair of homeplugs, connected to the STB which is at my living room

Hi Richard912, thanks for reply and confirmation.

I intend to use Aztech Homeplug LAN 109E (200mbps), what homeplug are you using? Do you use second router (bridge from DIR-615), what's brand?

I'm using the exact thing except on one end (STB side) its a HL109EP (with plug point). No lags even for the HD channels.

Hope the above answers

So you did not use bridge over to another router and using DIR-615 LAN ports or wireless to your PCs, will DIR-615 will be overloaded as I heard it's not very reliable.

Is your house using 3 phase wiring / single phase. If it is a 3 phase,pls make sure it is the same phase. If not it will not work.
*
No my house is single phase and single consumer unit.

Not only that, you have to make sure it's from the same source, i.e. from the same consumer unit or distribution board; even if you are from the same phase but different consumer unit, I don't think it's work.

Unfortunately, my setup is still the "stock" version insofar as equipment is concerned. Essentially, the DIR 615 located in my study is connected via LAN 4 through Homeplug to the STB in my living room. LAN 3 is another homeplug connection to my mediaplayer in my bedroom, LAN used to connect my desktop in my study and LAN 1 to my NS in my study.

The current DIR 615 I am using is my second unit. The first kaputed a week after installation. And mind you, I'm not a heavy downloader although I keep the entire setup on 24-7

*
I am not heavy download user too, but I never switch off my existing Linksys WAG120N (Streamyx) router. So if that it's the case, do I need to buy 2nd router? What's your thought and recommendation?

One my noob question, I am using iMac, is it complicated to setup UNIFI and does the software of routers, etc are Mac compatible? Does TM personnels are trained to help on different OS?

When I was on Streamyx, I had a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 wifi router hooked up to a first generation ZTE ADSL modem which was never turned off and I had no problems with them. So, I've been following this thread closely in wait for a good alternative to completely replace the "sensitive" DIR 615. The sifus here have found a way to totally replace the DIR 615. So, I too will likely invest in a RB250GS. Pair it with a good wireless access point and everything will be good to go thumbup.gif
*
Thanks, hmm, how reliable is RB250GS, has anyone use more than months ? If it's really good, I am interested to get one too. Have you registered in the list?

Thanks for the wonderful guideline, will read it in more depth. tongue.gif

Does it means I can throw away DIR-615 with this RB250GS? Hmm, there is no wireless LAN available in RB250GS? I think I still connect a bridge over a internet wireless router (ADSL Modem Router not work) also. Correct me if I am wrong.

The RB250GS is not a router. It's just a smart switch to assign a tagged VLAN to a port so you can connect your tagged VLAN unaware devices to it. You still need a PPPoE capable router to manage the Internet connection, though it doesn't have to be VLAN tag capable or running dd-wrt.

Once you get the switch, you can flash your DIR-615 to dd-wrt and use it as a router or buy a new one without losing IPTV access. You can even plug your computer into it directly and dial in through the Windows PPPoE dialer if you want.

Is the setup with RB250GS based on Riz's guide can be simplified as follow: -

BTU <LAN1 of RB250GS> RB250GS (replacing DIR-615) <LAN2 of RB250GS> STB <LAN3 of RB250GS> Wired/wireless router(with RJ45 port instead of RJ11 port type)<LAN4 of RB250GS>Spare

Follow Riz's instruction, your connection should be:

BTU[LAN1] ----> [LAN1]RB250GS[LAN2] ----> IPTV STB
.................................RB250GS[LAN3] ----> [WAN]<your router PPPoE UniFi user ID & password>
OR
.................................RB250GS[LAN3] ----> [WAN]DIR-615 <follow Riz's instruction to flash with dd-wrt>

All the above "----" are using RJ45 Cat5/5e cable, not those RJ11 telephone cable.
*
Thanks for correction. So basically, you no longer need DIR-615 if you have a internet router? Based on the 2nd option using DIR-615, how reliable is this setup compared with 1st option?

If I want to follow 1st option setup as above, I need purchase further equipment as follow: -

a) RB250GS;
b) Internet router (wireless);
c) Two homeplugs

Wow, that will cost me a bomb !

Btw, are you taking bulk order for RB250GS ? I would like to register for RB250GS.
