Sorry not too sure abt the rooting part.. But i didnt mean internal memory.. I meant ram.. As in ram on xt is a little on the low side.. 256mb of ram is pretty low if u compare with other fones.. And ram does make a difference.. And i did say xt is a good fone as according to reviews. but juz meant tat xt ram was low..

hmmm... seemed that my question about 'which android phone with excellent battery' has been drowned... or not?
*
what do u consider excellent battery? 2 days with moderate to heavy use with data on?

coz for wat i noe, all these touch screen fones have horrible battery life.. if u want better battery life, u wud haf to get the 3rd party battery which makes ur fone look funny at the back..

i havent yet heard of any android fone that has excellent or even good battery life..

Desire has kinda crappy battery life, Samsung galaxy S (the fones im using) has a slightly better battery life than the desire, but nonetheless its not what i consider good battery life.. it can last me till the end of the day with data on edge, setting brightness down, moderate gaming, moderate browsing, moderate to heavy calls, moderate smsing, etc... but seems like some ppl using the galaxy S managed to get much better battery life than i do.. dunno why, but for me its not a problem because i charge my fone everyday before i go to sleep.. and no issues going thru the day..

cant really comment on other fones coz ive never used them before, but ive read and watched many reviews of other android fones, and from what i can tell, none have good battery life, at least not yet..

so the only thing u can do is to either charge every night, or get a huge 3rd party battery.

QUOTE(o.d @ Oct 31 2010, 11:25 PM)
Hello, please recommend me a decent android that's not so high end expensive

1. Brand: any long life ones
2. Budget: below rm1500
3. Specs: if possible 2.1 above or possibility to upgrade to 2.1 above, good or decent camera (not as much as c905 quality but must be ok to the eye).

4. What you need in the phone:

WANT

I will mostly use it for:
- read pdf / word docs
- ebook reader
- free gps or maps to help me around town
- take picture and videos in classroom/lecture & outdoor
- record voice interview
- upload those pictures, videos and sound files if possible as soon as its taken to youtube or FB or other free hosting site and laptop
- google calendar, google doc, google maps
- skype(voice) will be nice if with video as well but not necessary
- browsing and reading articles in browser
NOT NECESSARY

- entertainment (games, music videos, nice media player) will not use it a lot
Thanks in advance  smile.gif
*
In terms of camera quality, Xperia X10 would be the best, however, it is no where near the best android fone.. next best camera on the fone i would say is the galaxy S.. but its kinda pricey, unless u sign up with Maxis contract for 2 years, then its in ur budget.. but Galaxy S has some issues with GPS as well as some lag issues.. but if recording video is ur secondary priority, then i would say go for the Desire, coz it is big enough to read pdf and word docs, has a properly functioning GPS (altho i personally do not like to use GPS on fones), not too sure about the quality of voice recording, but Desire's camera and recording quality isnt very good, its okay, but still usable. Browser stuff shouldnt be a problem.

or not then u can also try the Motorola XT720, it has a decent camera, decent size, decent design, and decent price which is within ur price range, altho it has smaller RAM.

Another fone would be the HTC Legend, good fone, good performance, nice design, but the thing i dun like abt this fone is the screen size, its 3.2" which is big enough for most ppl, but i personally prefer larger screens, coz its easier to read and type stuff.

Go check out these fones, and then make ur decision, its all up to personal preference.
Hope this helped

Hey guys Galaxy S = Captivate? N why the big difference in price?
*
Because Galaxy S is local, as in its meant for our region, the Captivate is the AT&T(a US mobile carrier) version of the Galaxy S, its still a galaxy S fone, but they changed the look of it and customized it..

Captivate is practically the same fone as the Galaxy S available here, however it doesnt have a front facing camera, and has a different design..

therefore, Galaxy S would have less of a problem finding accessories over here, but if u go with the captivate, ur gonna have to import the cases and screen protectors.

2. Budget. (1-1.5k)
3. Specs.
good camera, sociable (fb,twitter,blog)
4. What you need in the phone
good battery life, sensitive touch screen, thin and light
*
I would say the HTC Legend coz it has sense UI which has better integration of social media like FB and twitter.. camera is not great on this fone, same goes for any HTC fone out there.. but its still useable, this fone is thin and light as well, battery life im not so sure, that one u need to find out..

No problem, glad to have helped.

owh, and i forgot to mention that the Xperia X10 is still currently on android 1.6.. kinda sad and doesnt have multitouch.. which makes it even sadder, but camera quality still good.

i know that 2.1 was on the way to x10, but i juz didnt noe whether its officially available yet.. and i didnt wanna mislead others because altho i sed the camera on X10 was good, i failed to mention that the performance on it is not as good as other fones..
and yes personally i feel that Sense UI has a better social media integration than the rest, i didnt say others cant, i juz sed tat Sense UI is better in that scenario.. come on, even my samsung Galaxy S has social media integration, and i still prefer the one on sense.. Come on, even on my old HTC G1 the first ever android fone, i could do social media integration with cyanogenmod.

and no one else is here to help provide recommendation, so why not help out.. im juz trying to help..

i would say tat the legend is a slightly better fone, rm999 with 2 year contract with DiGi.. Next wud be aria, then wildfire..

aria and legend are nearly the same fone but with few differences, i dun really remember wat the differences are, but they are different in a few ways (but pretty similar at the same time)..

lost, can you tell us why did you say that legend is slightly a better phone than Aria. what's the difference between the 2?
*
well theyre nearly the same fone, but the legend has a AMOLED screen as compared to LCD on the aria (well this one depends on which one u prefer, but i personally tink amoled looks better)..

another thing is that the Legend is supposed to have a better battery life than the aria.

and the Legend has a LED flash while the aria doesnt (if im not mistaken- correct me if im wrong)

besides that and the design differences, theyre practically the same fone..

they run the exact same processor, the Qualcomm MSM7227 at 600Mhz.. and RAM and ROM are the same as well..

So Legend can be said to be juz a slightly(very very slighty) better fone in terms of hardware.

but if u dun care about AMOLED and LCD, and dun really care much abt the LED flash and slightly better battery life, then u can say that both the fones are the same smile.gif

sifu legend isnt on d digi map now... mind to ask .. did aria and wildfire support multi touch input..??how about samsung galaxy 5 ..???is it good for a rm600 android phone with 240*320..???did this resolution will effect program runing in phone.??
*
yea i juz found out abt the legend being no longer on digi..

the aria and wildfire both supports multitouch, but if im not mistaken theyre both more like dual touch, its a 2 point multitouch, ppl say this is not true multitouch like what is available on the iphone and samsung galaxy S where it recognizes 3 points or more.

but anyhow, i still consider it multitouch, and therefore, yes both fones are multitouch capable fones.

but im not too sure abt the galaxy 5 tho.. coz havent really seen, tested or read much on the galaxy 5 yet..

and yes the QVGA(240*320) resolution on the galaxy 5 and wildfire does have an effect on applications.. coz not all applications on the android market support QVGA resolution..

the galaxy 5 is a really affordable fone, but i suggest u go thru the galaxy 5 thread and ask them questions, coz im really not sure about how well the galaxy 5 performs and all..

in a way amongst these 3 fones, aria would be the best and safest choice mainly due to its screen resolution which supports most apps on the android market.

Hey, im wondering whether to get hero or wildfire. Which would be better?
Or any phone within the budget of 800! second hand is ok to me too. thx !
*
hero is a little outdated.. i dun even tink ppl still sell the hero.. the wildfire is not bad, but the screen resolution might cripple ur android experience a little coz some of the apps in the market do not support its resolution..

if ur thinking 2nd hand, then why not get a 2nd hand HTC Legend.. it is sort of the model after the hero. But apparently DiGi stop selling the Legend already.. but u shud be able to find a 2nd hand one.. if not then try get the HTC Aria from DiGi RM799 for 2 year contract..

I suggest go look at these fones and maybe test it out a little.. it can help u make a better decision.

really? i have a few friends who have the legend and i have tested and played with the legend.. but while testing i didnt have that issue, and my friends never complained to me abt the wifi before.. hmmm..

sorry i cant really comment on the wifi issue coz i dont personally own a Legend, this one u need to ask at the HTC Legend thread here on LYN.. sorry cant help you about this issue.

Hi.
never a smart phone user. so, might as well giving it a try now ey..

I ve been reading since page 15, and also did some research (abit) on the other smart phones, which i basically come down to these 2: HTC desire and SGS. But there is still a few things that perhaps all sifus here can help out

can any 1 share with me:

1. in terms of sound quality, which is the best? i put this as my priority as i do travel alot, and music is a must for me =D (for some weird reasons,  i m not fond of the 'i' brand. besides, i m kinda guy who love to carry as little as possible - means if best, i would not want to have another stand-alone mp3 player). most of you seems to comment on mostly other criteria but not this 1.

2. GPS - ok, i never use any gps in my life before.. thus my noob question as the following: Which of the above can get free updated maps like forever (shit. feel like gona kena flame)

3. .. which also bring me up to question 3 - battery life. according to wat i had read, SGS has a better battery life compare to Desire?

4. which of their camera is better in your opinion. but this is not my priority. as long as it can take a decent pic, i m satisfied

5. both able to run the upcoming android 3.0? i read about the pre-requirement on the later android software. any 1 can confirm?

what say you..

besides music, my daily task includes:
- email (able to sync with microsoft outlook? possible?)
- web browsing - reading articles / news / ebooks / social networking stuff like fb, msn, whatapps..
- gaming (not much) / browser flash games
- pdf, microsoft words, excel (possible?)

Thanks ey!
cheers
*
Im currently using a SGS and i have tested and compared both these fones before.. and for wat i can say is that
1. sound quality in terms of speakers , SGS is slightly better.. if plug into headphones, then both are equally as decent. But SGS does have SRS 5.1 VIRTUAL surround sound thru earphones tho.

2. GPS on SGS is not very good.. it doesnt lock on to the GPS satellites very well, Desire is better in this sense

3. Battery life on both are not great, nor good for that matter, but for SGS, if u turn down the brightness and use Edge instead of 3G, then u wont have any issues going thru the day.. for me, after installing a custom rom, i managed to get 2 days worth of battery and at the end of the 2 days i still have about 30 to 40% left, but that is with minimal use.
about which has better battery life, some ppl might get better battery life out of SGS and some might get better battery life out of Desire.. but either way, you will have to charge your phone everynight

4.Camera on SGS takes better pictures, but does not have LED flash.. Desire has LED flash but picture quality is better on SGS, but the picture quality on the Desire is still very much acceptable. So pick your poison.

5. Cant tell abt android 3.0 yet. coz official info has not been released.

If u wanna play 3D games on ur fone, SGS is the best as it has the best GPU for android at the moment.
If u want to use GPS more, go for Desire
If u want to watch movies on your fone, go for SGS as it has a fantastic screen and supports many video formats, and all vids run great on the fone (on desire u can download an app to support certain video formats)
If u need a flash for ur camera, go for Desire

and i can say that Desire is less laggy than SGS. but SGS u can apply a lagfix which will solve this problem(im using lagfix now, and my fone runs great). However, i feel that the scrolling is smoother on the SGS than on the Desire tho. and also note that Desire is not lag-free, it does lag also, depending on usage, but not much.. but with Froyo and the JIT compiler, i gotta say that the Desire is pretty fast.

Desire has a more solid feel coz of the material used for its body.

But problem with Desire is the small internal storage capacity. Even with the "move to SD" function, not all apps support moving to SD. So you might run out of space faster than on the SGS.

However, both are still excellent fones, go test it out and see.
or u can wait for the Desire Z and HD

went to ask the mexis ppl at GO Mobile Expo yesterday, it seems they dunno when. oh well, they dunno anything at all as well. i plan to buy the samsung galaxy S, but i m still unsure should i buy it only after they update to 2.2, or i get it now and update myself using those custom ROM or something. judging from all the thread i have read, i have no idea wat are they talking about and worry i might screw up the phone.. lol!
*
Galaxy S froyo for our region is supposed to be out within now and 30th Nov. But i flashed to a custom ROM and i love it! really improves the experience of the fone..

and its not hard, if u follow the instructions to the T, then u shudnt have any problems, but if u dont want to mess around with that, then u can wait for the offical froyo.. but i decided to go ahead and flash to custom rom..

juz make sure that if u get the fone, check whether u can enter into recovery mode by pressing the volume up + Home + Power button. hold all buttons until the screen starts, if u have recovery enabled, then u will be able to see a different screen after the boot up screen. This is pretty important if u wanna flash to custom roms, coz some galaxy S fones have their recovery disabled.

haha.. sgs not as bad as u say la..

i would say the only thing bad about the SGS is their software implementation.. in terms of hardware, they lead the pack (besides build and flash).

SGS with custom rom and lagfix is fantastic!

*
seriously, i really dun see what is ur problem? i did say that software implementation was bad, and obviously i meant samsung la..
i juz sed that with custom rom and lagfix the fone is fantastic.
and honestly even without, i still can live with the lag.. depends on how u use ur fone.. coz for me, the lag wasnt that bad coz i didnt have that many apps, mebbe bout 70 apps oni while others using SGS keep from 100 to 150 apps..

it was samsung's fault about the lag, but no need to bash a fone solely because of its lag.. no fone is perfect, and ur beloved XT is nowhere near perfect either.

i wanted a more future proof fone, so i went with SGS, and honestly, i have zero regrets. Its screen and GPU is fantastic, no other android fone can match it, CPU is great, and has everything else i need.. I love to play games on my fone, and no other android fone run games as smooth, and the screen makes videos on the fone look awesome.. and besides that i use it for the basic functions like calling and sms, and theres no problem there either..

so, sure the lag sucks, and maybe samsung sucks as well, but to me, SGS is still a fantastic fone.

It depends on what u want in a fone..

But if u want a more overall performer i suggest u wait for the desire HD, it has a better GPU than the Desire, and less lag than the Galaxy S. so u shud be happy with the fone all around.. or u can also try the Desire Z..

The problem with Desire HD is unsure when the phone will launch and also the price.

Desire is capable to update to froyo, but is it also able to update to the latest HTC Sense as Desire HD?

Samsung is yet to has its froyo update, but comes with a superior screen.

I would like to know between the two UI, which one is better, like more smooth and user friendly. And also eye candy?

And does rooting void the warranty? If it does, then I think I just get a second hand or AP set is enough.
*
If ur not willing to wait then why not try the Desire Z, its still better than the Desire.. i saw sum1 in garage sales selling it..

But if comparing between Desire and Galaxy S, if u want eye candy, i say the SGS is better, coz of the beautiful screen.. and actually i feel that SGS is smoother than Desire, but when u haf lots of apps, and as time pass, u will begin to feel a lag, not when scrolling, but when launching apps.

One uses Sense and the other Touchwiz.. Many ppl dun like touchwiz because of its menu which looks "iphone-esque", but honestly, i actually like that format coz its easier to find and organize apps (and ive used both types of launchers before).. But in terms of homescreen, i prefer Sense much more..

Besides that, Desire already has froyo, and SGS is getting it within now and the end of the month, but if u cant wait, theres always custom roms which not only provide froyo, but also tweak ur system to make it run much better.

Which is more user friendly? well both are android and are equally as user friendly, but if this is ur first android fone, then there is a slight learning curve, but its pretty easy.

If GPS is a priority, i suggest get the Desire, coz its GPS is more stable than the one on the SGS.. Owh, and Desire has less lag when launching apps..

Sad thing about the Desire is the horrible GPU, more graphic intensive games dont run well on the Desire.. SGS does many times better in this field.

The reason why i recommended Desire HD or Z is that its sort of a compromise between a Desire and a SGS.. it has a good processor and better GPU than the one on the Desire(but still not as good as the one on the SGS), and so far from what ive read and seen, they perform very well. Owh and the superfast start up is NICE!

Oh and yes, rooting voids the warranty.

hi guys.. im oso confusing buying aria or wildfire~ is there any diff or cons for buying ap set??
*
difference would mainly be warranty, one by the original company, and one by ap company.. original warranty normally has better warranty coverage for ur fone..

about aria vs wildfire.. Aria is a better fone, but of course it cost more.. advantages of aria, mainly is the higher resolution screen which supports most apps as compared to the wildfire which has a QVGA screen and might have issues supporting certain apps in the market..

and the other thing would be that the Aria has a 600Mhz processor while the Wildfire has a 528Mhz... these 2 are the main differences.

hi..
am thinking of getting android phone

which one is better

samsung galaxy s
milestone xt720
or htc desire

what are the difference between those 3 phone
how about touch screen..any diff
ive tried sgs b4 coz my gf is using it..

btw i will around 2k so i think i can get either 1
can help?
thanks
*
milestone xt720 is sort of mid range, while galaxy S and Desire are supposed to be high end android devices..

about touch screen, the best is SGS with its real multitouch (up to 5 touch points enabled).. since uve tested it before, u should understand..
I can say that with custom roms and lagfixes, Galaxy S is clearly without a doubt the best fone amongst the 3.. however, if u dun wanna root ur fone and install custom roms, then the desire is better in a sense that it is not as laggy as the galaxy S without any tweaks.. xt720 is also a decent fone, and if 'khalpowers' is here, he will surely push u to get the xt720..

gaming is best on SGS followed by xt720 and then desire..
Best screen is SGS
Biggest RAM is Desire
Biggest internal storage is SGS, followed by xt720 and then desire being the smallest
Best GPS between SGS and Desire, is Desire (not sure abt xt720, that one must ask khalpowers)

If u wanna save money, u can get the xt720, but since ur budget is 2k, i say get either the desire or the SGS, but if u get the SGS, u shud install custom rom and lagfix to have the best experience u can get from the fone..

Best out of box experience is surely Desire. But with tweaks, best would be SGS.

xt720 as according to khalpowers is a really good fone.. But if ur looking to install custom roms, dont go for the xt720 coz apparently it has a locked or encrypted bootloader.. Xt720 is still a pretty good fone without the ability to install custom roms, But personally i would say that if u want to get a motorola, wait for the milestone 2.

Bottom line is, with your budget, get either the SGS or Desire. Depending on ur wants and needs in a fone.

Dudeeee, seriously, what is ur problem?!?!? this is a recommendation thread, its not a fanboy thread. Did i even say that xt720 was bad? NO. i even said that xt720 is a pretty good fone even without custom roms.. so what the HECK is wrong with u? Im juz stating facts, and the fact of the matter is that Desire and SGS are considered high end android fones, which xt720 is still considered mid range.. and im even stating the limitations of the SGS and that he should choose his fone based on his needs and budget.

I know u love ur fone. But sometimes be a little open minded can anot? We are all android users, so why bash each other.

owh, and a recommendation thread wont work if an individual only talks about his/her current fone, questions wont get answered. So if one has used or has experienced the other fone, or even read tons of reviews from other users, or seen many videos on how well the fone functions, juz provide some input.
