There were frequent lightnings in the late afternoon in Puchong area in the second half of December. Maybe yours kena when you are not at home. All of us kena the phone line isolator only because the surge was coming from the external phone cable and we usually switched off only the AC when not in use but seldom remove the phone cable.

Bleah. Nowadays, I always power down the computer when I'm not at home. Kiasu liao. Last month was really bad - my modem got fried right in front of my eyes. It had been raining, but there sort of rain where you don't expect thunder, and it was coming to halt, so I hadn't bothered to power down. Suddenly kaboooom kraaaakkk.

My router kaput recently (2 weeks old), but modem not affected.
Is this due to lightning? Not using any protective equipment. unsure.gif

it's called householder insurance now, i just double-checked the policy.

Cover lightning damage, flood, theft, water tank burst, impact by road vehicle & aircraft, etc - on my house contents.

Premium is cheap, for peace of mind...

Actually I am currently living in Penang. Although I visit Puchong to see my mum and siblings. We almost never get routers . modems or appliances fried by lightning - touch wood. I was quite surprised that Puchong is lighning proned area - is it the same for all of Selangor, Klang Valley? And why is that so?

It depend on which part of Puchong area. If you live at high land area like Puchong jaya, wawasan, BP etc, than chance getting strike is higher.

Get UNIFI. There is no lighnong isolator for Unifi modem and so far after more than a year on UNIFI, even on super heavy thunderstorm, I'm still using UNIFI and even momentary black-out due to lighning strike, nothing wrong wth the modem...touch wood haha

Friend said after exceeding the unify monthly quota before the billing date, Unify will throttle the speed. Is that so ?

They have yet to impose the 60GB quota although they hv been sayig since day1. Anyway, TM already assure UNIFI users that once the time come, Streamyx users also will suffer the same fate smile.gif
