DRB announced it is not aware of any proposals.
"We refer to the letter dated 9 December 2010 from Bursa Malaysia Berhad with regard to the above article appeared in the New Straits Times, Business Times, Cover Page on Thursday, 9 December 2010, in particular to the following sentences : (i) “Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al Bukhary is believed to be considering taking auto and banking group DRB-HICOM private….” (ii) “There has been speculation that Syed Mokhtar could offer anywhere between RM2.20 and RM2.70 for the DRB-HICOM shares he does not own” DRB-HICOM wishes to state that the Company is not aware of such proposal nor have we received any notice whatsoever to that effect from our holding company, Etika Strategi Sdn Bhd. This announcement is dated 9 December 2010." Probably why the price went down 2nd session today. |

Yea... It might drop tomorrow. But from the strong quarterly financial reports, this company is indeed a good investment. Whether the company would be privatised or not, the share price may still go up to RM2. It's just a matter of time. The automotive industry seems to be robust for next year too with all the new models and hybrid cars coming out. But if North and South Korea have war or Europe is facing another financial crisis, then maybe all shares would drop.

It is just a matter of time only. But I think so far, only the company claimed that they have not received any offer from Tan Sri. I think the Tan Sri has not denied the offer yet. QUOTE(PureGeek @ Aug 14 2010,11:09 AM) the stock can reach RM 3 once they start production for ASEAN market CKD VW... if u have money, put in DRB ^^ Aug 14 2010, dun say unker didnt share with you ya !by the way DRB-HICOM set to seal deal with VW DRB-HICOM Bhd is scheduled to sign a definitive agreement on December 21 with Volkswagen AG, Europe's largest carmaker, to assemble VW cars in Malaysia. The cars will be assembled in Pekan, Pahang, for local and Southeast Asian markets. "Tentatively, it is scheduled for December 21 with the signing ceremony being held either in the KLCC area or at DRB-HICOM's (1619) operational headquarters in Glenmarie, Shah Alam," said the source. It is understood that DRB-HICOM's top officials from its automotive divisions are currently abroad for the final leg of negotiations with VW. In August, DRB-HICOM signed a memorandum of understanding with Germany's VW to assemble and manufacture Volkswagen vehicles in Malaysia. An agreement with VW will help boost business and raise its profile among investors further. Although a big chunk of income comes from stable businesses like Islamic banking, insurance and power plant maintenance and plans to expand its property unit, its share price is still well below its net asset value of over RM2. DRB-HICOM shares closed 9 per cent higher at RM1.80 yesterday. In August, it was reported that minority shareholders voiced their displeasure at the company's annual general meeting over the undervalued shares. As a result, the company said it plans to beef up investor relations (IR) activity. "I do understand the anxiety of the shareholders and the public ... the current share price does not reflect the actual value of the company, which is actually worth more," group managing director Datuk Seri Mohd Khamil Jamil reportedly said after the AGM. Yesterday, HwangDBS initiated coverage on DRB-HICOM with a RM3.55 target price. The research house said DRB-HICOM is the cheapest conglomerate in the country with a net gearing of 0.3 times. "With efforts to be more investor-friendly now, we expect a significant re-rating from its bargain basement valuation of 5.5 times 2012 financial year's earnings per share," Hwang said in the report. The research house added that a key catalyst for DRB-HICOM is the conversion of a letter of intent from the Ministry of Defence for 257 AV 8x8 armoured wheeled vehicles, worth about RM8 billion. Bank Muamalat first-half net profit jumps 53pc
Published: 2010/12/14 BANK Muamalat Malaysia Bhd's net profit for the first six months ended September 30 this year jumped 53 per cent to RM71.9 million. Group pre-tax profit breached the RM100 million mark to RM102.1 million, 60 per cent higher than a year ago. Bank Muamalat, in a statement yesterday, attributed the better results to steady and broad-based performance including significantly reduced provisions for impaired assets. The bank's total assets grew by 8.3 per cent to RM16 billion. The asset expansion was driven by the 10.7 per cent increase in financing, attributed to steady credit appetite from both the consumer and wholesale businesses, it said. Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Bank Muamalat said it had not considered any strategic partnership nor entered into the open bid for Pos Malaysia Bhd. It was responding to a report published by an investment research company. DRB-HICOM Bhd holds a 70 per cent stake in Bank Muamalat and the remaining is held by Khazanah Nasional Bhd. Read more: Bank Muamalat first-half net profit jumps 53pc http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_News/BTIM.../#ixzz184NmkIbF Added on December 14, 2010, 3:43 pmLooks like good news is all around for DRB. The lower price in KLSE today has not reflected the group actual business confidence. Wonder why? This post has been edited by dchk: Dec 14 2010, 03:43 PM |

The closing price for today is RM1.78. I hope it would go up next week. But it seems like many people are selling at RM1.80 and above. So, maybe it would stay around RM1.80 for some time?

Haha... I have the feeling this counter price is not going to move alot already. Maybe gonna stay at coma state for quite some time. If you guys want cheap stocks, you might as well go and look at other counters like KNM or TA or GAMUDA, etc. I think these counters will be hot for these coming few days.

I first entered about 3 months ago at RM1.04, then again at RM1.13. wanted to average up when it was RM1.28 that level just a month ago but was cash was tied up elsewhere.
DRB's still very cheap, despite it being at RM1.80 now. P/E ratio (valuation) is a mere 6 times if i remember it correctly. another stock that i had bought heavy into was KUCHAI Development. P/E ratio is 2.6 time only. and it has gone up from 90sen 2 months ago, to RM1.75 high recently. any questions please PM me instead as i dont check back very often. |

the value of DRB actually still not fully unlocked yet. If it start selling some stakes in its muamalat bank, it will shoot up very high. Being first Islamic Bank to listed in Malaysia is a great achievement

Anyone has any idea why DRBHCOM suddenly shoots up again? And from the announcements made, the Employee Provident Fund Board is disposing of their shares at around RM1.8X to RM1.9X, I assume.

DRB-Hicom May Rise;Insurance Units Shr Sale Report
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0047 GMT [Dow Jones] Malaysian conglomerate DRB-Hicom (1619.KU) may rise to test the psychological MYR2.00 level, says a local brokerage dealer, after The Edge Financial daily reported earlier, citing unnamed sources, that the company is exploring the possibility of divesting its interests in insurers Uni.Asia Life Assurance and Uni.Asia General, in which it owns a 51% and 34.7% stake, respectively. "The stakes sale will likely be viewed positively as it will allow DRB to focus on its core auto business," says the dealer; he believes that proceeds from the sale will also come in handy for the company's capex plans. The stock closes down 0.5% at MYR1.92. |

QUOTE(escargo75 @ Dec 28 2010, 11:18 AM) Anyhow, for the past 5-6 days, it had been trading sideways (Maybe I am wrong to say this?).. Dunno which is the next trend. The VW contract had been announced few days ago, but since then, still not much movement after that. Maybe some big gunners are on leave having vacation.. Need them to come back and spark fire.. |

That is why i am wondering also.. either they are trading quietly, gathering most of their power at low, and goreng-ing it with their remaining (whatever amount they allocated for goreng).or They are having fun outstation, overseas.. And when they come back, boom boom boom.. or I am just plain BS here? |

If you look at how Hap Seng rise from 2++ to 7++ in such a short time and still going up everything is BOLEH! Looking at how bullish the automotive market with many new models launching, I am going to wait a little longer. Who knows it can go up to 3++?

I guess anything below RM1.50 is a good buy for this stock considering its upcoming prospect which will reflect on it's coming years earning. Stay tune as this stock has been lagging behind for past 10 years without any pushing and this is like a blinfolded bull waiting to rush out.

QUOTE(tanch78 @ Apr 11 2011, 12:19 PM) IMO, DRB is a good fundamental company, okay to enter now as long as you hold for long term (> 1 year). Buying for goreng then I've no idea. Yeap.. Just hold and hold and hold.. Caused remember, that 7 billion project is no play play..7 billion = 70 x 100 million. Other small kuchi rat counter awarded with a few hundred million also breaking forward like crazy man.. What more about this? 70 times of 100 million.. DRB down amid talk of bagging 32% of Pos Malaysia
Written by Financial Daily Tuesday, 12 April 2011 12:30 KUALA LUMPUR: Diversified group DRB Hicom Bhd shares slipped 19 sen or 7.7% to end trading at RM2.27 yesterday, with some 21 million shares changing hands. The sharp fall in the company’s shares yesterday came amid speculation it had won the bid to buy a 32% stake in Pos Malaysia Bhd from state-controlled investment arm Khazanah Nasional Bhd. The announcement is expected today at the Invest Malaysia 2011 forum. The reason for the downward spiral in the company’s shares is unknown. Other than the reported bid for Pos, in March this year DRB had announced winning a RM7.55 billion defence contract to design, develop, manufacture, commission, supply and deliver 257 armoured wheeled vehicles to the government over a seven-year period. For the nine months ended December 2010, DRB posted a net profit of RM400.07 million or 20.69 sen a share, on the back of RM4.81 billion in revenue. DRB is 55.92% controlled by low-key businessman Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary. This article appeared in The Edge Financial Daily, April 12, 2011 |

DRB holders,
do you remember that before DRB declared the 7b armor vehicle deal? The share price was manipulated down to 1.7+, then after gotten the deal, the price crept up till 2.50. Well, this time could it be the same? Before declaring Pos deal (if won bid), the manipulators push it down kaw-kaw, then later after announcement, creep up again? Anyway, I bought it again today. |

loss on income for DRB Hicom...
Local authorities to take over Alam Flora’s cleaning work By K.ASHRAF KAMMED ashkam@thestar.com.my THE cleaning work that has been carried out by Alam Flora Sdn Bhd will now be taken over by the nine local authorities in Selan-gor. Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said the state government had decided that Alam Flora would only be in charge of garbage collection, while local authorities would do the cleaning work. The local authorities will now clean drains, fields and roads, said Khalid after the Selangor state monthly meeting yesterday. He said this was important because local authorities had been receiving many complaints on cleanliness. Reducing the load: From now onwards Alam Flora’s sole focus will be on garbage collection in Selangor. Khalid said the state government was planning to spend about RM200mil for cleaning work. “The local authorities will have their own workers and if need be they will give out contracts for cleaning projects,” he said. Khalid said the decision was not due to Alam Flora’s failure to deliver, but he felt that they could not handle everything by themselves. “If they only focus on garbage collection then it will be easier for us to know what their job specialisation is,” he said. Khalid said Alam Flora’s role as coordinators by using contractors must be reduced and they had to be directly involved with the tasks given. “About 10 years ago, all these tasks were done by the local authorities. Now we are reverting to the old way. Alam Flora’s initial role was only to deal with garbage collection and disposal,” he said. http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file...772&sec=central |

Wednesday, April 20, 2011, 05.53 AM DRB HICOM WINS POS STAKE Kuala Lumpur: Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al Bukhary's DRB-HICOM Bhd has won a bid to take over national postal company Pos Malaysia Bhd, people familiar with the matter said yesterday. Business Times understands that DRB-HICOM will sign an agreement with Khazanah Nasional Bhd early next week to buy the latter's Pos Malaysia stake. DRB-HICOM sees Pos Malaysia as a crucial fit to expand its Islamic banking operation, now parked under Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd. Khazanah, the government investment arm, currently holds 30 per cent of Bank Muamalat, while the remaining 70 per cent is owned by DRB-HICOM. It is understood that DRB-HICOM is buying Pos Malaysia from Khazanah for about RM3.60 a share. The latter currently owns 32.21 per cent of Pos Malaysia. The deal will value Khazanah's Pos Malaysia stake at about RM623 million. Last year, Khazanah had called an open bidding process for suitors of Pos Malaysia. |

QUOTE However, he declined to narrow the identity of the "winner" but said the names would be submitted to the board later this month. Among the criteria set for the bidders are ability to provide good premium and unlock Pos Malaysia's values, he told reporters on the sidelines of Invest Malaysia 2011. News reports and research houses had suggested that the three shortlisted bidders were DRB-HICOM Bhd, NATIONWIDE EXPRESS COURIER SER []vices and a Amanah REIT-Malaysia Pacific Corp joint venture, with offers ranging between RM3.38 and RM4.62 per share. The other two bidders were Scomi Bhd and TRICUBES BHD If scomi and tricubes win, then pos malaysia will go down the drain |

But I don't see investment from DRB Hicom will have any synergy effect or any value added to POS, and vice versa to DRB Hicom..
Other than, we can expect higher net profit coming from this associates in the coming quarter. |

POS will increase its' efficiency in bank services because control would be easier under one company and cost can be reduced. It's win-win situation I believe. Also, DRB has a property arm and insurance to throw in. Property arm can develop landbanks of POS if approved. Insurance arm for DRB's automotive section and POS can benefit with some commission . Anyway, DRB-Hicom getting POS is a good news. However, the question whether it will go up or not will depend on KLCI performance on Monday too. It's so fragile right now, any bad news will cause a spiral downward effect on share price.

Mini in term of low costs though small Post Offices That translates to very high profit margins for the group. They need aggressive management team though. will this affected the newly acquired POSB revenue? especially highlighted one.
from bursa (tricubes) 10. How will Tricubes generate revenue from this project? With the decline of physical mail traffic, there is substantial growth in digital mails. Our base service will be the email services at no cost to users while our revenue sources will come from the value-added services (VAS), which will be introduced in phases. They include: - Bill and notice presentment. This is expected to give the government savings on postal and printing costs of up to 50 per cent. - Job boards and online registration to government agencies that currently use e-forms. - Advertising revenue - Online marketplace |

A report from TheEdge
At Bursa Malaysia, stocks which could see trading activity are DRB-Hicom Bhd, Pos Malaysia Bhd, Iris Corp Bhd and Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd. Also in focus could be PPB Group Bhd, HPI Resources Bhd and Ranhill Bhd. POS MALAYSIA BHD [] posted net profit of RM38.26 million in the first quarter ended March 31, 2011, a significant increase from only RM1.62 million a year ago.
The postal services company said on Tuesday, May 24 the earnings growth was underpinned by the domestic tariff increase which came into effect on July 1, 2010. The group’s growth of almost 121% in profit from operations at RM50.86 million (2010: RM23.07 million) for the period ended March 31, 2011 was due to the tariff increase and benefits realised from transformation initiatives. “This is supported by revenue of RM304.5 million; a substantial increase of 31.8% from RM231.1 million in the preceding year,” it said. Its earnings per share were 7.12 sen versus 0.3 sen a year ago. Pos Malaysia also said its profit from operation of RM50.86 million, compared to the RM26 million recorded in 4Q2010. “An increase in profit by RM24.9 million or almost 96% was due to the increase in revenue by RM27.2 million,” it said. The group’s higher profit before taxation by RM38.7 million was due to higher operating profit but partially mitigated by the higher impairment provision of the investment in TRANSMILE GROUP BHD [] by RM3.4 million and lower other operating income of RM4.3 million. “In addition, during preceding quarter last year, the group provided one-off impairment provision relating to capital expenditure incurred for the postal counter system of RM22.3 million,” it said. |

Maybe the investors are still sleeping? I hope POS profit would help DRBHCOM price to surge! |

QUOTE(t5t @ May 25 2011, 09:44 AM) DRBHCOM price no movement in the queue yet! Even though this is an UMNO counter, I believe this is really a sleeping giant. I will not be surprised this stock can go up to at least 4.00 but the only question is when? thinking real hard to collect this stock and keep long term since the price now is still low...Maybe the investors are still sleeping? I hope POS profit would help DRBHCOM price to surge! |

Short rebound for DRB-HICOM likely
DRB-HICOM Bhd’s price trend moved higher to close at RM2.24, giving a day-on-day gain of 4 sen, or 1.82 per cent. Chartwise, DRB-HICOM’s daily price trend fell from its recent high of RM2.30 on June 17 to its intra-day low of RM2.19 on July 4,giving a total loss of 11 sen, or 4.78 per cent. Its 60-minute price trend staged an overhead breakout of its short-term downtrend (B1:B2) yesterday and continued to stay above it. Its 60-minute fast MACD (moving average convergence divergence) continued to stay above its daily slow MACD yesterday. Both of its daily fast and slow MACDs continued to stay below their respective neutral reference lines. DRB-HICOM’s 60-minute price trend is likely to stage a short and brief follow-through rebound. The company is a strong company anyway with earnings from new project yet to be factored in. 25 may bought 49k @ 0.19 15 jun bought 20k @ 0.17 17 june bought 50k @ 0.165 24 june bought 20k @ 0.15 30 june bought 30k @ 0.16 total on hand 169k as for how long am i gonna hold... i dont know. definately before december will sell off. frankly, i was contemplating the mother shares @ 70sen and drb-cb when it was 20 sen. but heck my $$ bearing was a bit off so looking back eyes spinning and saliva dropped till today. |

it's 5 days vwap.
https://admin.osk188.com/adminv2/UserFiles/...20%28T53%29.pdf QUOTE Where the Settlement Price will be an amount in the Reference Currency that equals to the arithmetic mean of the closing price of the underlying securities on the Exchange for the five (5) schedule Valuation Dates, as determined by the Issuer and verified by the Calculation Agent, subject to adjustments in accordance with the Conditions and without regard to any subsequently published correction. AND where Valuation Date(s) means in relation to the exercise of SW on the Expiry Date, each of the five (5) schedule Market Days prior to and including the Market Day immediately before the Expiry Date, and subject to the following Market Disruption Event provisions: (a) If a Market Disruption Event occurs on any of the five (5) scheduled Market Days prior to and including the Market Day immediately before the Expiry Date, then the Valuation Date(s) shall include such number of succeeding Market Days where the Market Disruption Event does not occur, for up to the eighth (8th) Market Day from and including the Expiry Date (which shall be referred to as the “Last Valuation Date”), so that in no event shall there be less than five (5) closing prices, to determine the Settlement Price; or (b) If there are insufficient number of Market Days leading up to and including the Last Valuation Date that are not affected by the Market Disruption Event, such that there are less than five (5) Market Days to determine the five (5) closing prices, then: (i) firstly, the Issuer shall determine the closing price, at its absolute discretion and on the basis of the Issuer’s good faith estimate of such price that would have prevailed on the Last Valuation Date but for the Market Disruption Event, and (ii) secondly, the closing price on the Last Valuation Date as determined by the Issuer may be referenced more than once to ensure that there are five (5) closing prices (by the Last Valuation Date) to determine the Settlement Price. FREDDIE, Where the Settlement Price will be an amount in the Reference Currency that equals to the
arithmetic mean of the closing price of the underlying securities on the Exchange for the five (5) schedule Valuation Dates ARITHMETIC MEAN MEANS ADD UP 5 DAYS CLOSING PRICE AND DIVIDE BY 5, IT DOESNT MATTER U TRADE AT WHAT PRICE IN THE MIDDLE... SO IT IS CLOSING PRICE... TODAY IS THE FIRST DAY.. osk is always closing price.. only cimb pays vwamp.. vwamp is more fair .. closing price can be manipulated... osk should be banned by bursa and sc la.. this is too much today is the first day, next monday 1st of august is expiry date... means trading stop at thursday... |

Wah this is unbelievable. Rarely see so blatant manipulation of closing prices.
For people trapped in the warrants, I think best is to buy up the cheaper mother share in last minute trading and ride it back to normal prices once the price fixing date is completed. Tomorrow morning might already be trading at normal prices for mother share because they only need to manipulate the closing prices. |

According to my friend whose close friend working in osk. Osk issued internal memo and stated that was a "trading error" but not gonna do anything.
Osk is clearly manipulating the price. |

QUOTE(justanovice @ Jul 26 2011, 07:55 AM) Sure will boycott any osk related warrants but i dont have acc with them so cant do anything. This is a clear cut breaching of SC Security Acts. What if the victims to write to bursa? Write letter to media? Will that help.. I hope SC doe not close on both the eyes. And also detriments to the future development of the derivatives . This post has been edited by SKY 1809: Jul 26 2011, 08:31 AM |

Then there are people who queue at 1.95 before the sell order, how come they know about the trading order before it was 'errorly' traded? Osk is clearly manipulating the price. it is now impossible for me to dump all the CE's at 0.115 now.
with 1.95 as the 1st day closing price... if next 4 days closing price is - 2.23, then CE is worth 0.112 a piece. - 2.24, then CE is worth 0.116 a piece. - 2.25, then CE is worth 0.120 a piece. - 2.26, then CE is worth 0.124 a piece. - 2.27, then CE is worth 0.128 a piece. - 2.28, then CE is worth 0.132 a piece. most likely OSK wouldnt dare to do a 1.95 again. i am pretty comfortable with 2.23. getting 0.112 cash per CE is not much different from selling in open market for 0.115 minus brokerages. so if it's 2.24, of course will be better than selling in open market for 0.115. as for 2.25, possible too. 2.26? uh... i need some luck. 2.27? i go buy 4D!!! 2.28? buy big sweep lor... oh well... Trading Error or Manipulation on DRB ?
" I will swing towards it being an intent to manipulate because WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD PUT A 3m BUY ORDER or SELL ORDER ON DRB HICOM given the current normal daily trading volume of the stock WITH 15 MINUTES OF TRADING LEFT???? Maybe because the egg has now been splattered over everyone that the intent has to stop. If there was no outcry, maybe we will see even more of these "trading errors"." by DALI http://malaysiafinance.blogspot.com/2011/0...ion-on-drb.html THE POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA This post has been edited by SKY 1809: Jul 27 2011, 11:51 AM |

A closer look at the numbers involved, from another critic of this blatant manipulation slash 'error'
I don't think posting the whole content is fair to the writer so anyone who wants to read it all can visit the kicap QUOTE On 25/07/2011, 1.4 million of DRBHicom shares were sold at about RM0.30 below the market price. Error or manipulation? Point 1 The shares were sold by a bank-backed broker (The Edge). Client unknown. Selling were done at the last minutes during pre-closing. Point 2 Total quantity 1.4 million. Price at RM1.95, about RM0.30 below market price ... SNIP .... Point 10 How much saving of DRBHCOM-CE the Issuing House get, assuming all 90,000,000 shares are in the hands of public and not the Issuing House. RM0.15 ' RM0.12 X 90,000,000 = RM2.7 million ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! If I am not mistaken, the maximum unit per order is 500,000. I'm not sure whether dealer doing for Institutional clients can have more than 500,000 per order. If it is 500,000, then the dealer needs to key-in at least 3 times for all the 1.4mil shares. Meaning if mistake or error, the dealer made at least 3 mistakes or errors. I'm not concern who is the broker who sell the shares, because institutional client normally have many accounts with many brokers. The main point is the shares were sold at RM0.30 below market price. Look at my long statement: Dealer keyed-in more than 3 times, at price of at least RM0.30 below the market price, at the last minutes during pre-closing, at a very huge quantity during a fairly quiet market, make a loss of only RM420,000 while the potential gain/saving by the Issuing House may be up to RM2.7 million, and it was a mistake. What do you think? |

well, i myself is over with DRB-CE. i live another day to fight the battle.
just a little update: http://www.theedgemalaysia.com/in-the-fina...nt-episode.html QUOTE Lessons from DRB-Hicom call warrant episode Holders of call warrants closely track the movements of the underlying stock prices, as the value of their instruments depends on the latter. It is little wonder then that there was much hue and cry when DRB-Hicom Bhd’s share price plunged 14% or 33 sen to RM1.95 in the final minutes of trading last Monday, just five days before the structured call warrants (DRB-CE) issued by OSK Investment Bank Bhd were due to expire. The derivatives expire today. The fact that the shares fell to RM1.95 on that day — coincidentally the strike price of the call warrants — naturally raised suspicions among investors, even if it was a trading error. Again coincidentally, there were barely two trading days before DRB-CE was suspended last Thursday (last trading on Wednesday, July 27). After all, if DRB-Hicom shares closed at or below RM1.95 five days before expiry, the European-style call warrants would have been rendered worthless on expiry, and the issuer would not need to cough up any money for cash settlements. Fortunately, DRB-Hicom shares rebounded and recouped all their losses the next day. On the final trading day, DRB-CE closed at 12 sen and the underlying share finished at RM2.24. But the episode was unusual enough to elicit a response from OSK Investment Bank. It issued a press release in response to The Edge Financial Daily article on the “trading error”, saying that it had absolutely nothing to do with the price decline. “We, the bank, would like to clarify that we were not involved nor did we have any prior knowledge as to the purported ‘trade error’ reported in the article.” OSK, however, said there might be a direct implication on the determination of that day’s price movement on the settlement price of the call warrants. Whether there were suspected trading irregularities, Bursa Malaysia said as a matter of policy, it does not comment on any of its investigative actions. In an email reply to The Edge Financial Daily, it said: “Bursa Malaysia takes the obligation to maintain market integrity as a priority and views any attempts to manipulate share trading seriously. Where there are instances of suspected market offences, the exchange will investigate and take the necessary action.” It is still unclear what happened in those final minutes of trading on July 25, but the episode does throw up a few lessons. For one, it highlights the riskiness of call warrants, which many investment banks have been busy issuing and are often snapped up by retail rather than institutional investors. The high gearing effect means investors can either gain a lot or lose it all. Second, the ending value of a call warrant despite its multi-month tenure, ultimately depends on the closing price of just five trading days in the case of DRB-Hicom. If the underlying stock price had fallen below the call warrant’s strike price for that five days, it would have rendered the warrants worthless. Third, this may encourage future investors to just sell their call warrants on the open market if they make a profit, rather than wait for expiry and settlement. Fourth, it highlights the need for the authorities to exercise greater vigilance on unusual share price movements, especially when a call warrant is due to expire. Finally, the issuer of call warrants also needs to take into account a stock’s longer-term prospects before issuing such instruments — or they risk being out of the pocket. In DRB-Hicom’s case, few would have foreseen just a few months ago that the low-profile diversified conglomerate would have emerged on institutional investors’ buy lists. DRB-Hicom started garnering attention after analysts started appreciating its undervalued assets and it later acquired a 32% equity stake in Pos Malaysia Bhd. Perhaps the most important lesson is that call warrants are a risky instrument for both the issuer and investors. This article appeared in The Edge Financial Daily, August 1, 2011. |

QUOTE(t5t @ Aug 21 2011, 07:07 PM) In fact I am. I think this year's slowdown makes perfect sense to me, after last year's high gear recovering. Current problem is market panic. If the panic continuous for a long time, that may seriously hurt the recovering process and create another round of fear and downside. For instance, the recent US default fear was totally ruled by politicians. They exaggerated and utilized the fear for political reason. If they all really do good to the country, I believe this fear won't happened at all. And S&P would not have any chance to downgrade the rating for US. At Europe side, I actually think the rejection of Euro zone bond is a good thing for long term. It helps to push Euro zone to ACTUALLY SOLVE THEIR PROBLEM IN REALITY INSTEAD OF IN DREAM. And it will also help decrease the seriousness of stringing the debt issue to entire Euro zone countries. As on DRB itself, I really think it's still highly undervalue. It should be trading at 14x I think, for so many profitable(and some defensive) businesses in hand.Just my view though. Judge your own. This post has been edited by yok70: Aug 22 2011, 05:42 AM |

Added on December 7, 2011, 12:41 amProton, DRB-Hicom active, up amid speculation of corporate exercise KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 6): PROTON HOLDINGS BHD [] and DRB-HICOM BHD [] shares were actively traded on Tuesday amid speculation that that a corporate exercise is in the offing, with DRB-Hicom emerging as the likely suitor. At 9.10am, Proton was up 27 sen to RM4.77 with 3 million shares done while DRB-Hicom added 10 sen to RM2.30 with 4 million shares traded. The Edge FinancialDaily reported today that businessman Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary was understood to be in negotiations with Maybank Investment Bank (Maybank IB) to craft a deal in his bid to take control of national automaker Proton. Added on December 7, 2011, 10:19 pmProton says unaware of any corporate proposals PETALING JAYA: The rally in the share price of national automaker Proton Holdings Bhd that started last Thursday came to a halt yesterday, as its top management clarified to Bursa Malaysia that it is not aware of any reason for the unusual market activity in its shares. The national automaker’s share price fell 19 sen or 4.22% to close at RM4.31 yesterday, after trading within a wide range of RM4 to RM4.94 throughout the day. The stock started its upward surge last Thursday after rumours re-emerged that its largest shareholder Khazanah Nasional Bhd was inviting parties to bid for part or all of its stake in the group. The sovereign wealth fund holds 234.73 million shares or 42.74% of Proton’s issued and paid-up capital. “The board of directors of Proton wishes to clarify that after making due inquiry with the board of directors and major shareholders, the company is not aware of any reason for the unusual market activity in the shares of the company recently, and further, that there is no material corporate development not previously disclosed,” the group said yesterday. Trading in the stock was halted for one hour, from 10.20am to 11.20am, for the announcement. The stock price surged by more than 45% in just four trading days from last Thursday to yesterday, as rumours of a potential sale, which periodically make the rounds, re-emerged. Quoting sources, The Edge weekly reported at the weekend that Khazanah has sent out feelers and approached several automotive industry players to ask them for business plans for Proton if they were keen to take up the investment fund’s stake in the group. According to the report, the automotive players approached include Sime Darby Bhd’s motor division, Hyundai Berjaya Sdn Bhd, UMW Holdings Bhd, the Naza Group and DRB-Hicom Bhd. However, only DRB-Hicom indicated any interest in acquiring the stake, the report said. DRB-Hicom has in the past tried to acquire a substantial stake in Proton. In 2009, the conglomerate submitted a bid to buy 32% of Proton, but the deal failed to materialise without any concrete reasons given. DRB-Hicom, which is 56% owned by tycoon Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary through his investment vehicle Etika Strategi Sdn Bhd, has recently stated that it will bank on mergers and acquisitions to fuel future growth. During a press conference after its AGM in September, DRB-Hicom managing director Datuk Seri Mohamed Khamil Jamil said the company embarked on a five-year business development plan in 2006 to stabilise, rationalise and grow the group’s businesses. These include the assembling and distribution of passenger cars and other automotive businesses, financial services through Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd, and snail mail services through its 32.2% stake in Pos Malaysia. He said DRB-Hicom will raise about RM1.7 billion for capital expenditure as the group enters the second phase of its development plan. This may include acquiring stakes or other corporate proposals, as the group seeks to expand its businesses through mergers and acquisitions. Added on December 8, 2011, 11:28 amGeneral Motors Co has begun talks with Proton Holdings Bhd, Malaysia’s biggest automaker, to form a manufacturing venture in the Southeast Asian country, according to two people familiar with the matter. The discussions revive negotiations that were scrapped in 2007, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the talks are confidential. The talks are preliminary and may not lead to an agreement, they said. For GM, an agreement would help the Detroit-based carmaker expand manufacturing of cars for Southeast Asia beyond Thailand, where the country is reeling from its worst floods in almost 70 years. A deal may allow Proton, which has held unsuccessful alliance talks with Volkswagen AG and Peugeot SA, to gain access to GM technology that could help the Malaysian carmaker boost sales overseas. Klaus-Peter Martin, a GM spokesman in Detroit, declined to comment. Izad Raya, head of group communications at Proton, which owns sports-car maker Lotus Group International Ltd, said the company doesn’t comment on speculation. GM isn’t interested in buying the controlling 43 per cent stake in Proton held by Malaysian sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional Bhd, the people said. Proton shares jumped 45 per cent over two days on Dec 5 after the Edge reported the state-owned asset manager was preparing to auction its holdings. Auto and property group DRB-Hicom Bhd, Naza Group and Proton chairman Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh submitted separate bids to Khazanah for Proton, Malaysia’s The New Straits Times newspaper reported this week, without saying where they obtained the information. -- Bloomberg Read more: GM said to revive talks with Proton http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_News/BTIM...l#ixzz1fu9s9vPZ Added on December 9, 2011, 12:35 amDRB-Hicom, SAAB ink strategic partnership in defence and aerospace Written by Syarina Hyzah Zakaria of theedgemalaysia.com Thursday, 08 December 2011 18:43 KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 8): DRB-HICOM BHD [] and SAAB AB of Sweden have signed an agreement to collaborate and supply Airborne Early Warning and Control System (AEWC) for the Royal Malaysian Air Force. In a statement Thursday, DRB-Hicom said the integration of SAAB's Eyerie Radar and the incorporation of the "Eye in the Sky" would provide significant data link to the Royal Malaysian Navy and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency. The AEWC system will enable the government to enhance its airspace and maritime awareness, it said. “The ability to detect, track and monitor territorial and international domain in combating piracy, smuggling, illegal fishing and terrorism within and around Malaysian borders will also be enhanced. “The collaboration aims to strengthen current expertise in terms of competencies in project management, system engineering and supply chain management,” it said. DRB-Hicom said it would provide a significant local involvement in the entire project cycle, starting from production to testing and eventually to support AEWC operations. The company said the agreement was a major step taken towards upgrading Malaysia's defence aviation technologies and capabilities, specifically in areas of Aeronautics System Integration and Command & Control, it added. http://www.theedgemalaysia.com/business-ne...-aerospace.html Added on December 10, 2011, 12:25 amDRB-Hicom not eyeing Proton Written by Financial Daily Friday, 09 December 2011 12:20 KUALA LUMPUR: DRB-Hicom Bhd has denied a newspaper report that it is looking to secure a substantial stake in Proton Holdings Bhd, and would divest part of the stake to Volkswagen AG. “In this regard, we wish to inform Bursa Malaysia that the company is not aware of the source and the basis of the article,” it said in a filing with Bursa yesterday. Nadzmi Salleh Leaves Proton
KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh has resigned as Proton Holdings Bhd Chairman and Director with immediate effect. In a filing to Bursa Malaysia Friday, the national auto maker said his resignation was part of a term stipulated in the sales and purchase agreement (SSPA) between Khazanah Nasional Bhd and DRB-Hicom Bhd. "We wish to highlight that the resignation of Nadzmi as the chairman of the board of Proton and all other appointments by virtue of his position as director, is part of the terms of the SSPA," Proton said. Nadzmi, 57, nominated by Khazanah, was appointed Proton Chairman on Jan 1, 2009 and was also chairman of the boards of various subsidiaries within the Proton group of companies. He previously served the national car company as its Managing Director between 1993 and 1996. -- BERNAMA http://www.bernama.com/bernama/v6/newsbusiness.php?id=652813 DRBHICOM starting the show already? |

Currently, selling Uni Asia is just side show, while they prep up for the biggest move, since DRB ate PROTON.
This time, to relocate assembly to Tanjung Malim plant (as evident in pumping RM1 billion to develop Proton City) Then only can develop current landbank owned by Proton in Glenmarie. Estimated GDV should be more than RM10 billion. |

(Reuters) - Volkswagen (VOWG_p.DE) labor representatives would not back any further acquisitions by the carmaker, especially of Malaysian firm Proton PROT.KL, the works council chief told a German newspaper.
Europe's largest carmaker is considering either a minority holding in Proton, the owner of UK sports-car manufacturer Lotus, or a controlling stake to tap demand in growing southeast Asian markets, sources told Reuters in July. VW, which surpassed Toyota (7203.T) last year to become the world's second-biggest car maker, has been scooping up brands including Scania (SCVb.ST), MAN (MANG.DE), Porsche (PSHG_p.DE) and Ducati in recent years as part of an effort to overtake General Motors (GM.N) at the top of the industry by 2018. "We already have 12 brands and we first have to stabilize the group," Bernd Osterloh told Handelsblatt in an interview to be published in the paper's Monday edition. "Even though further sales and production sites in south-east Asia are important, there is no support from the labor side for a purchase of Proton." I am skeptical of DRBhicom taking over of Proton. As for the intended cooperation with Honda, nothing concrete was announced at all. It's not the norm for Honda to work with other car manufacturer. Can't recall Honda ever worked with or transfer tech to any other car manufacturer globally. In terms of fuel efficient technology Honda is way ahead of other car manufacturer. Why should they transfer their tech to Proton? Previous experience with Mitsubishi, another Japanese brand for 30 years was not a lesson well learnt. For Drbhicom being an assembler is another ball game from being a quality manufacturer through Proton. For one public opinion of Proton is very low negativity. And to uplift this confidence needs tremendous effort including throwing freebies and years of warranty. Will Proton brand really worked first in the local market and then internationally or because of Proton, DRBhicom will eventually collapsed under the weight of the acquisition. Already RM1 bill of loans are due and payable in 2013. Firesale of DRBhicom non core businesses are ongoing to pay for the acquisition. The question is, is DRBHicom using its resources efficiently or is it using shareholders good money chasing after a bad investment forced into them by the Government.

Agreed there are value to its land in Shah Alam, but it's used as a manufacturing plant at the moment. We are not talking about asset stripping of Proton but about it's viability and the ability of DRBhicom to transform Proton to an international brand without superior technology. Anyway, DRBhicom denied it will be shifting all manufacturing to Proton city.

Yes, Proton still used all the land in Shah Alam, so it's locked for plant utilization. As to revamp of Lotus, this is not the first time, during the last CEO and before that there were several revamps all down the drain. Don't put your hope, all more talk no positive results. Every car launched you see the Oldman there but Proton cars just can't sell well. The reason is obvious. When you expounded "kulitfication" as life time philosophy and ignore meritocracy, what do you get? You produce in quantity but no quality. So the market is at all time high, take the opportunity if possible for trading buys(hit and Run) but not for long term in DRBhicom
Latest DRBhicom to be taken private and proposed Asian Car rebadged of VW model, and no mentioned of Proton. Dead and buried? http://www.theedgemalaysia.com/business-ne...ar-project.html This post has been edited by alenac: Jan 9 2013, 05:13 PM |

KUALA LUMPUR: Shares of DRB-Hicom Bhd advanced on Thursday, underpinned by reports of a possible privatisation of the group with CIMB Equities Research expecting such a move would unlock immediate value. At 10am, it was up 10 sen to RM2.73 with 9.95 million shares done. Its call warrants, DRB-Hicom-CQ added 1.5 sen to 19 sen, and DRB-Hicom-CL 3.5 sen higher at 20 sen but DRB-Hicom-CR shed 0.5 sen to 19.5 sen. so... does it sound true? |

"However, Wong said at the stock's current price, DRB-Hicom is still a "severely-undervalued counter". This compares to its
latest reported net assets per share of RM3.27" quoted from theedge |

Please do not looked at NAV. There r many counters in KLSE which r below NAV. Looked at individual asset and what's management plans on the asset. Then looked at overall strength of the company.
Latest in the Star, CEO dismissed privatization plan. Latest: Proton seen losing market share to Toyota in 2013. http://www.theedgemalaysia.com/business-ne...-pressure-.html This post has been edited by alenac: Jan 15 2013, 11:17 PM |

Your professor is so wrong, take a look at the auto industry in UK. To survive, one must branch out to other businesses. we are not doing a charity work here, its simply business. Proton MUST go. Enough said, and this PROTON is the reasons of us cannot afford a good quality car and changes in so many law just to protect the underperformed PROTON. And yea, before Saga, cars are cheap. Come Saga, we are doomed. |

DrbHicom CEO selling Optimism for Proton. All big feel good figures .......any substance?
http://www.thesundaily.my/news/589718 If we analysed the CEO optimistic production targets, he sounds more like producing rebadged VW than proton. If that is the case then turning the "Asian (VW) car" as mass market model may worked. If using VW outdated or previous generation technology may end in disappointment. "In reaching our 500,000 (annual) target, our emphasis will have to include the export market," its executive chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Khamil Jamil (pix) told reporters during DRB-Hicom Bhd media get-together and drive to Tanjung Piai, Johor over the weekend. The national car maker expects exports to account for 20% of the total production by then. No car assembler and manufacturer in Malaysia has ever exported up to 100000 units per annum. Perodua at around 10000 per annum at most. And to produce and sell locally 400000 units per year while the current market consumed only slightly more than 600000 units is rather ambitious. The Proton vehicles must cornered at least 50% to 60% market share 5 years later. Is the CEO a bullshitter? This post has been edited by alenac: Jan 16 2013, 10:42 PM |

- It is reported in the media today that DRB Hicom's (DRB) CEO Datuk Seri Mohd Khamil had hinted that the group would be active in corporate exercises this year as the group seeks to improve its bottom line and reduce gearing. Nonetheless, he stopped short of indicating which part of DRB's business would be involved. That aside, the group is targeting the divestment of its stake in UniAsia by 4Q2013. As far as the divestment of Bank Muamalat is concerned, there have been discussions with Affin Bank and there have also been interests from two more parties. - Looking at its businesses, we find that the group could unlock a sizeable value from its property division given the assets in hand. It has a remaining GDV of RM11bil with key assets coming from Glenmarie Heights (1,500 acres at GDV of RM8bil) in Iskandar Malaysia and also the Jalan Tun Razak (opposite IJN) development worth RM900mil accounting for 50% and 20% of its residential development market value. - We are not ruling out a possible spin-off of its property arm especially given the robust interest in Iskandar Malaysia currently. Recall there has been slew of land deals in Iskandar over the past few months involving Mah Sing and WCT and several high-net worth investors. In fact, Tan Sri Lim Kang Khoo's Iskandar Waterfront Holdings (IWH) has been in the news for a possible listing with an angle of second play into Iskandar Malaysia. - DRB's property division accounts for about 22% - including its investment properties and hotel and resorts - of our SOP value of RM10.7bil for DRB Hicom, albeit at a conservative average selling price assumption. - From a valuation standpoint, DRB is currently trading at an attractive CY13 PE of 9x versus its conglomerate peers of 17x. It is also trading at a steep discount of 37% to its SOP value. - We believe there will be strong interests for the stock in the near term given the expected strong newsflow with the general election around the corner. - We maintain our BUY rating on DRB Hicom at RM3.80/share. Whatever earned from Property and Military contracts to cross subsidy Proton ever hungry CAPEX. CAPEX could be around RM500 mill for each new model. CEO indicated probably 3 or 4 models within 5 years. That is provided the property can really sell for the next 3 years. Remember too, that not all DRB properties to be developed are in prime areas. In other words, the momentum of sales for each project vary, so too will the profit and cashflow. .
But for 2013, experts have forecast sluggish demands for property in Malaysia and consistent with the chinese Lunar year of the water snake, property sector will lag other sectors such as O&G , Transportation etc. Thus, consumers will not put their money in properties as much as previously. Moreover UBS Investment reported that 2013 property developers will focus more on affordable housing, meaning low profit housing projects DRBhicom gearing expected to further increased with 270 mill pound sterling to be fully released to support a turnover plan for Lotus. (at least RM1.4 billion) The loan to manufacture and sell at least 2000 cars per year. "On Lotus, he said Proton was currently talking to the consortium of bankers to release the remainder of the £270mil syndicated loan given to the UK-based carmaker." http://www.star-motoring.com/News/2013/Go-...roton-told.aspx Update: UBS on prospect In the Malaysian Property market. The research house pointed out that the high-end property sales in Malaysia were sluggish while the mid- to low-end markets (RM500,00 to RM1mil) sales proved resilient. Sales of high-end landed property and premium condominiums were weaker. “In our view, all the developers will be able to sustain sales momentum from 2012 into 2013 as they shift to more affordable housing units,” said UBS. http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?f...65&sec=business Stalenews on additional income stream, probably assembly for VW cars. But no details of how much profit can be obtained from assembly. http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/busines...ival-says-dr-m/ This post has been edited by alenac: Feb 15 2013, 10:45 AM |
