I am planning to form a mage heavy group. Here is the setup and what do you guys think? Is balance group still better (2 tanks + 2caster + 4supports) or full tank grp (4tanks + 4 support) or caster grp (3caster+1 tank + 4 supports)?
For caster group, here is the setup. 1 elementalist/monk - main healer, spec high in heal and elementalist energystorage for high powerpool. 2 protection monk - second healer and protection spec monk for defending assist train 3 elementalist/mesmer - fire mage, aoe and dps 4 elementalist/necro - air mage, DD DD and debuff 5 mesmer/elementalist - high fastcast and air magic, for further DD but main task is doing mesmer task first 6. Pure mesmer - Pure interupter 7. Warrior/monk - well, paladin for interupt and another heal 8. elementalist/monk - fire mage aoe and dps and backup healer |

of course there are many counter for this if a pack of disruptor and a pack of ranger/mesmer can pwn this grp, but how many people are willing to do this just to kill the caster group? a team of disruptor will mostly lose to others balance group and majority of groups i saw are running balance group or some likes to run tank group
sure, this is all theory, this really depends on the full teams members who are good enough (skillz0r) to do their job. Or simply make hybrid balance group heh but i like the DPS kind of setting. |

Seems like you doing an EQ style aoe damage where these is a bunch of casters with one tank in the mix. Worked well in EQ cause of the taunt and more specifically paladins and shadow knights were good to gain agro.
However, in guild wars those agro's can easily be taken off by the caster and diffcult to ward off again (for PvE). Worth a try and curious how it works out but in PVP if you up against a bunch of hammer warriors cum monk you could be screwed. One class you seem to have ignored is the necro who are very good at hexes via the curse line and the death magic has an aoe which can be potent. A Necro/monk also make very good healers if played right. They are the subtile class of the casters and often ignored |

One monk to heal a bunch of cloth wearers. A monk healing a bunch of full plates would have a much easier time. 2. Only one monk ?! Your monk will have a problem, should I heal the dying cloth wearers ? or Heal myself ? Either way, one will die. 3. Hammer Warriors, Distruption Rangers and Ward of Elements, Healing Seed. I guess the last man to die in your party will be the warrior |

Hmm. How many of these 'collector' NPCs are there? They ask for stuff and in return you get items.
