Here's some more updates on my new setup.
some older pics: ![]() ![]() some newer updates: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There will be more mid range plants (any suggestion?) added later on to cover the rotala stems. hope the rotala can grow longer fast so can act as a background. since i didn't add any new soil, and i used the same filter and same water. 24 hours after setting up i put the fauna in. they seem ok. hopefully none dies. now my hand are really itchy for a chiller |

QUOTE(freestyler87 @ Jul 28 2010, 03:48 PM) moe81, Thanks for ur feedback. i get where u're coming from. i'm no pro. i'm not sure bout you. but with the way u point ur comments out. u gonna get ur @ss fried if u run into some pioneer. try starting out humble. Pun intended!Just some opinion no offense ok? 1, should use different size of rock to separate the white sand smaller rocks better looks natural Yea u're right.. but then i was thinkin if the rocks are smaller, woudn't it get burried in the deep soil? so, i was hoping the moss will outgrow and cover most part of the stone. let's just hope it works. 2.one mistake that every aquascaper does.. 3:1 golden ratio is apply wrongly as the river should not in the MIDDLE... well i wouldn't say it's a mistake. it may not look as aesthetically pleasing. it's not by any book. and it's not ruining anything by drastic measure. Fyi, i've seen lotsa price winning aquascapes with river in the middle. i believe it's merely preference that became a standard for grading. so, just because something isn't to another ones preference, it's wrong? only if doing something in one way that it's detrimenting another, it's wrong. 3.Planting Rotala is wrong too... should not plant red, green , red ,green... concentrate the red one in the ratio (golden thinggy) as your eye will catch attraction on that place... well another wrong here. ok i get ur point here. but i hope you get mine! 3.arrangement of wood should be follow the natural feel as the the wood bending should be natural not you go make it other way round ( this hard to explain in words for me , if i able to show you face to face easier to understand ) 4.should not plant it flat... i mean make behind soil higher "Slope" it actually has a 4 to 2 inch slope from behind. 5.Dont put in fauna yet as your cycle haven complete... you may put fish after a week if you using cycle bacteria well, i guess it's too late now. we'll just have to wait and see if the fauna survives. Good Luck... Regards, Kenneth |

QUOTE(Adremier @ Jul 28 2010, 04:45 PM) Ok guys.. there is no need to get mad at each other... we are in a forum, so we discuss... we tell people advice.. and sometime we get advice from them... so let open our self to any comments. I'm not mad at anyone brother. Precisely my point. we're in a forum. so we discuss and advice.. there's a thin line between advising and scrutinizing. carelessly constructed words may offend many. I've been foruming for more that 10 years now. tho i'm new to lowyat. i've been on international forms. those are: kingsnake.com, ukmuscle.com, the late malaysiafauna.com, docserpent.com, so many more pitbull forums. i've experienced how ppl from all around the world advices. sometimes, ppl get well over their head and need to be put to their place. i'm still not mad at anyone. observe carefully, i construct my words with care. making sure points get delivered. i can choose to be a nutbag and start flamming but that won't be very civilized, now would it? come on ppl. nobody is born pro on anything. this life is a learning process. if u can't be politely constructive to those beginners, then y bother. |

QUOTE(chuppy2 @ Jul 28 2010, 11:07 PM) Back read some pages. Rm 120 for a solenoid?? oh yea.. i forgot to get back on this issue. i'm not kidding you guys. i bought mine for RM 120 from that very shop. And i seriously thought that was the price. again when i went back to the shop after someone from here called the shop. the shop owner said " Oh, just so you'd know, the price for the solenoid regulator is actually way higher. Even my cost price is 200 and ppl are selling it for 300+ outside." Send me 10 wahaha.. Seriously though. The manual ones shouldnt cost you more than rm 100, whilst the solenoids can really go that high. Drew i guess it's an SOL (shit out of luck) for everyone huh. sorry guys didn't mean to burst your bubbles. |

QUOTE(chuppy2 @ Jul 28 2010, 10:14 PM) these are my opinion to your opinions and views 1. The looking natural part of the dividing rocks. It's more of a common practice. Since we dont (expect) any growth on the white sand, what can block your straight view from the front to the back? well Personally I would place bigger ones in the front while slowly getting smaller to the back while zigzagging each other out. shows depth. Again, personal tastes. 2. As Moe81 mentioned, the 3:1 rule is never a must. as long as the FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL is there. or you get that tingly sensation when you do your scape. well, youre the owner, u syok, can d lo. but of course, sometimes winning other's overall syokness can boost self ego (LOL) 3. Planting of rotala.. the colouration and mix is definitely , again personal choice. Uniform would be easiest to give power to it ( as kenneth mentioned )Personally, I wouldn't plant it that way too. I dont mean colour schemes but I will back achingly plant 2-3 stems per bunch only having 0.5cm apart from each other. Trust me, the work is worth it. = ALSO, ill avoid planting the rotala towards the middle exactly behind the white sand unless you know what youre doing ( religious trimming and proper trimming method) 4. Well, i have to say his wood placement is Simple and Nice IMHO. I'm not very good with wood. so I won't go on further. 5. ahh.. SLOPE. my favourite. A little slope is always a great addition to any tank. but never a must, If you can create the depth without the use of slope. then memang pro leh. ( aka. master simmy) otherwise, the utilization of SLOPE is more emphasized on IWAGUMI or rock scapes. woody. can or can not to withotu depending on scape. I personally would add more for your tank but not too much. 6. Agree on the fauna comment. thats it. END OF constructive(?) COMMENT Drew With you pin-pointing certain areas in my already set up new tank with all reasoning and explnation behind it, moved me to put an extra effort to make some changes that i thought would well worth it. and i took your words for it. I've always put consideration to all opinions and comments in this forum. but it's just that some lacks in the explanation part that didn't quite move me. if u get what i mean. but U certainly have. i only worked on comments No. 3 and No. 5 since the rest is pretty muh a major rescaping altogether. malas la. 3) like u suggested, i added the slope by adding more substrate in the back portion. now it's 5 inch at the back and two at the front. now there's a 3 inches slope difference in the course of 1.5 feet which is the width of the tank. u think that's sufficient? i really hope so. 5) Rotala. gosh that was some serious pain in the butt for 2.5 hours. i did exactly what u said you'd do. 2 to 3 stems per bunch with 0.5 cm apart. but i separated the green like Kenneth suggested. A section,(1/5) of the stretch i planted green. it was an arbituary stretch. it wasn't in the middle and neither it was in the corners. And i also didn't plant anything exactly behind the white sand. i didn't exactly get the reason behind why u wudn't plant behind the white sand. u said something about religious trimming or some sort. but i could not make anything out of it. but i'm sure you have a very relevent reason behind it. pls do feel free to elaborate. On another note, is pottasium dosing everyday really necessary? i just dun wanna overload. that's my only concern. |

QUOTE(chuppy2 @ Jul 31 2010, 04:02 PM) Well, as a certain someone i know mentioned before. " Genius is knowing when not to Overdose" LOL.. Yup. i get what u mean now. now, i may need to remove more rotalas in the middle. those with their bottom stem still visible. great piece of info. all that. I dose it daily. But my tank is high tech high light high c02 la.. If i dont do this algae attack sure to happen. It's like this. on the rotala behind the white sand part. There isnt any hardscape blocking the soon to be leggy or tall rotalas. so if u want that bushy effect, you have to always trim the rotala down weekly and I must say its a PITA. Whereas rotalas planted behind the wood are much more forgiving as the leggy parts are gonna be blocks by the woodwork. I'll place one of my previous works to elaborate. See the stems getting bushy? the legs are well blocked away by the rocks. Also this tank has a ton of slopage given to it . Imagine. a 60x30x36cm(H) tank is given 2 1/2 bags of 9L soil . LOL!! that tank's workflow. THere are some MAJOR flaws with this tank. Rotalas not bushy enough. HC did not trim.. a lot of regrets la. but well, I use it as an example. Here are my very first tanks Notice the right side in the first image? That's what I mean by LEGGY rotalas. ewww.. HOPE THESE HELP. Drew i'll attach a new pic. tell me if i need to remove more rotalas in the centre. ![]() p.s. great workflow on the Iwagumi! This post has been edited by moe81: Jul 31 2010, 06:32 PM |

QUOTE(pakutekan @ Aug 4 2010, 05:41 PM) Another cause y it's not bulging uniformly could be because it's not heated uniformly. meaning, if u use ur stove and hold the acrylic tube above and rotate it, by the time u blow the pipe, the part that was first heated cud have cooled down a bit(i hope u get my drift). using a furnace to heat up the tube all-around might work much better. but to find a furnace, that's another question to go thru all these trouble and still end up with some minor imperfections p.s. oh, if u did get it done. cutting the angle on the lily pipe would be a task using a hand-held hack-saw. i have a 12" verticle band-saw. i can help u with the perfect cut-off.
