im shocked with the diy thing you doing... but i dont encourage you to screw the driftwood to the stainless steel plate... as they might rust... i know you will say STAINLESS STEEL... for a long period of Chemistry Dosing AKA  Fertilizer it will RUST... and if doesnt... it will affect your water ph or condition too.. if im you i wont take the risk... it will have alot of dilemma happen later..

about soaking the driftwood, i dont think you need as you bought from fish shop... they have soaked it already...
except you get it from wild you need soak urself... =)
*
oh, ppl call me the man of DIY. maybe because i just have the resources. i'm lucky in that sense. here's my other DIY outta so many i've made.

snake hooks. top quality.

Thanks for the feedback brother..
We are machine manufacturer. one of the machine that we make is a cryogenic blasting machine. this particular machine need to be fully stainless steel, made with chemical resistant grade stainless steel. there's two grades of stainless steel. there's 304 and 315 grades. the 304 is the regular grade and the 315's are chemical resistant. this is the grade we use to make our machine. the pieces that i use are extra laser cut pieces from makin the machine. even the screws are special ordered 315 grade. i'm more than confident that the fertiliser won't cause any corrosion on the SS pieces.

so, i guess we're good to go. thumbup.gif but anyhow that's for the concern. sorry i had to be a smarty-art and get all technical. i just wanted to make sure that u know that i'm aware. thanks again. icon_rolleyes.gif

yes. as michanz said. i'd rather be safe than sorry. i'll just soak the wood just to satisfy my conscience. hmm.gif

well is good you can diy, why dont diy lily pipe?
it's ok to be soak... anyway the stainless steel round thingy you wanna attach to ur driftwood not preferable to natural aquarium... if you insist to do so... go ahead... =)
*
Hahahaa. i actually never thot of DIY lily pipes. but by the looks of it, it requires much more resources than what i currently possess. i believe it requires mass manufacturing to lower the costing. then, it won't be DIY anymore. other than working with flat glasses, i don't think shapy glasses can DIY. period. blush.gif such a bummer isn't it.

but RM 150 for a set of lily pipes isn't too bad now, is it?

ive seen people diy lily pipes using acrylic tubings.. lazy to google the site..

first they take a  small acrylic tube,  burn the end close, then from one end blown air while u heat up the acrylic tube and the acrylic expands into a bubble.. from there on he cuts it at an angle and POOFF! become lilly pipe lol!
usually planted aquariums dont play background image punya.. lol!! well if u cant find any out there i suggest u photoshop watever color and howmany tone u want and go kedai print to the size u need.. lolz
*
Well, usually when i DIY something, i'd like it to look very professional, almost up to perfection. I'm sure making lily pipes outta acrylic tubing would show some blemishes and imperfection. it defeats the reason of using lily pipes in the first place(to have a very classy and sleek look). and unlike glass, acrylic can stain( become milky) after a long period..for that very reason i dun see any harm in getting the rm150 glass immitation lily pipe. laugh.gif

hmm, bout the background. if u say so. then ai-ai captain. will stick to no background for now. i'll see what i feel like doin later on.

I use dark golden cloth on the back of my tank.. look quite nice too
I warp the cloth around some polystyrene board and stick em to the back of the tank using velcro..
*
hmm, good pointer. thanks. that's a very doable option if i can't find the color i want in background paper.

1) About the products that u mention: for me im using ADA 5 elements to maintain my tank...so far so good...glosso growing like mad...no algae problem...maintain dosage for half year...

2) Top up ADA amazonia will be good...but becareful....dont add those soil immediately as it will lowered your ph in a dangerous rate which might be harmful for your fauna.

3)why not try to get some fissiden?

pic will be helpful...i guess it is hair algae...
*
hey, thanks a lot for your reply.

1) what's ADA 5 elements? i googled it and i can't find any result. can u pls elaborate further on the product?

2) sweet. i guess i'll do that. i'm actually tranfering my aquascape to a different tank and rescaping again. will be taking all the fauna out for the moment. since i'll be using the same water and same canister filter witout washing, how long u think i should wait before i putting in the fauna? 2 weeks perhaps?

3)fissiden is good too. i wanna tie some on my layer rocks.. where u think i can aquaire them? any lfs u know?

yes. it is hair algae. i googled it. i'll read up on how to rid it..

thanks again. appreciate it!

how do i tie fern on driftwood? since the branch is pretty thin (bout 2cm diameter). do i just just tie it with fishing line or do i have to add some coconut husk(sabut) at the root to help rooting? i rather just tie the fern on the wood if it'll work..

co2 system rm340 ok ah? the lady say smallest one 2L wor  hmm.gif  I thought smallest one 0.5L?

with manual regulator or auto regulator?

coz in east aqua ikano, the 3L tank alone is RM 280 only. and in a shop nearby my house, manual regulator is RM 30, auto regulator is RM 120. and also in east aqua ikano in-line CO2 diffuser is RM48. anymore extra thing u need is a bubble counter and 2 check valves which will total to about RM 10. now let's do the calculation:

manual setup:

tank: RM 280
man reg: RM 30
diff: RM 48
misc: RM 10
TOTAL: RM 368

auto setup:

total + RM 90(difference between the reg price) = RM 458

so..........

damn this google map is darn confusing.. but somehow i managed to add the location on google map.

search for 'Five fish Trading selayang jaya' in google maps. if can probably add it to the first page la..

note: well, he doesn't offer any warranty la. but he has one that he's been using for two years and he claims no issue.

on another note: the only thing that can go caput in a auto regulator is the solenoid valve. i just asked my purchasing manager to source for a cheap one-way solenoid valve. we actually use a three-way miman solenoid valve for one of our machine. but that's a branded three-way valve. even that is only 115. i believe a non branded one-way valve can get for 30-40 bucks. but i'll wait my my manager to get back to me and then i'll update here.. so, even if the solenoid valve gone, can get a replacement.

Already updated wat. i put up the map to the lfs on google. he's selling the solenoid regulator for RM 120 la. the other sourcing i'm doin is for future. just incase the solenoid valve alone gets spoiled in the regulator. then we can replce the solenoid valve alone instead of changing the whole regulator. you get it? thumbup.gif

guys how do i solve pesty snail problem. i'm not sure what type of snail are they. but i noticed about3 of them in my tank? are they of any good use? will they eat hair algae? if they're just merely pests, how do i get rid of em?
