err... moe81
im shocked with the diy thing you doing... but i dont encourage you to screw the driftwood to the stainless steel plate... as they might rust... i know you will say STAINLESS STEEL... for a long period of Chemistry Dosing AKA Fertilizer it will RUST... and if doesnt... it will affect your water ph or condition too.. if im you i wont take the risk... it will have alot of dilemma happen later..
about soaking the driftwood, i dont think you need as you bought from fish shop... they have soaked it already...
except you get it from wild you need soak urself... =)

snake hooks. top quality.
Thanks for the feedback brother..
We are machine manufacturer. one of the machine that we make is a cryogenic blasting machine. this particular machine need to be fully stainless steel, made with chemical resistant grade stainless steel. there's two grades of stainless steel. there's 304 and 315 grades. the 304 is the regular grade and the 315's are chemical resistant. this is the grade we use to make our machine. the pieces that i use are extra laser cut pieces from makin the machine. even the screws are special ordered 315 grade. i'm more than confident that the fertiliser won't cause any corrosion on the SS pieces.
so, i guess we're good to go.
yes. as michanz said. i'd rather be safe than sorry. i'll just soak the wood just to satisfy my conscience.
